The man is a brain . Schools should adapt his ideas. If he believes in something he is all in.
I myself was professional developer before I got my degree.
But for some reason, all around me pushed me to learn, thus I did it...
Yet in my organization most of people in the top of influancial positions - don't have degree... some of them didn't finished high-school and teach other dudes from prestige universities how to write their code haha
Degree is just a piece of paper, you don’t actually learn much at university...University Degree is a way of showing off that you’re good at particular field but It’s like the peacock’s tail, not useful in itself, just a big signal that you’re professional.Real career success comes down to natural talent and the drive to succeed, in my opinion....
The education system is broken in many ways and I don't believe in it at all.
I think there are some professions where a degree is very important for example: I would feel rather nervous if my Doctor never went to medical school (basically professions that deal with the well being of others), but then there are things that I don't think you need to learn at University, such as, Business, Computer Science, Art, English etc basically knowledge and skills you can teach yourself with research, time and community support. Then there are also professions I think that would benefit from a bit of change in education system such as legal profession where I think you do need theoretical knowledge and structure but (this is based on my own experience) it should happen whilst you are working/doing your articles instead of wasting years beforehand as it helps to have some real business context for the theoretical knowledge.

Degree is needed to get a good job. In case of creating something extraordinary, degree is not mandatory
I've watched this video before. Personally, I left college to start up my own ICO consultancy business, but I do feel that education is important.
I really do think it depends on the person; if you have exceptional ability, maybe you do not need college! Thanks for sharing this, Elon Musk is my number 1 role model, and I plan to one day work with him!
I really agree with you. Elon is my role model too I think he is the Da'vinci of our time. I totally get his point but if you ask me the most amazing thing about college is not the classes or lectures but the community its self, in as much as Zuc, Gates and even Elon himself dropped out of school at some point there is no denying the fact that they all went to college and some key persons in all their companies where met there on campus.

Me three. Elon is the type of entrepreneur that I aspire to be. Innovation may be what he's best known for, his work ethic is really something else

Elon Musk is a smart guy, but I'm not sure if his advice is practical for everybody. After all, he has an Ivy League degree and was then accepted into a Stanford Ph.D. program. That academic pedigree is what paved the way for his entrepreneurial success. Not saying Musk needed those credentials to be who he is today, but I would have to think that investors and business partners took him more seriously at an early age with those credentials in his back pocket. That being said, the system of higher education is changing. will be interesting to see where things head from here...
you could wipe your rear end with a school and particularly a High School Degrees. They don't mean much if there are no employments. Do what you need not what the framework wants.
@hilarski I respect that viewpoint, however let's all not forget how things like smartphones, cars, ships, satellites, computers, rockets and airplanes are actually designed and built by people with higher education. Musk's employees are highly educated people as well. Without them, no rockets for mr Musk.
there are two sides i think. Education is important but not the most important thing. We must work at this. Education should be closer to practise. It is the most important thing
I learned more out of school then I ever did in school and school just bored me with such a slow pace it was. I ended up leaving and learning on my own and would never look back
You know what's funny? When someone studies hard for 12 years in school, get's into college, takes a loan and after he graduates he can't find a job, and the real life kicks in and he ends up doing some brainless job for minimal salary or joins military :D I love the way this guy thinks, he's school idea is really great, i love the fact that there are no grades, since that grades system is really bad. Ty for sharing this.
Education system is nothing to write home about, degrees can't fetch you anything. The qorks of your hands really matters this century. Degrees is not absortly wrong, but is almost fucking up these days.

An educational background is just one way to try achieve success.....having a limited educational background still allows you to achieve success if you work hard....learning from experience is key....problem-solving is even more important.....

I agree with him 100%, particularly about the assembly line nature of schools. It really is insane. If you are gifted you are held back. If it might take you a little longer to learn something you are made to feel stupid. It's an insane asylum. The only other institution that we have that is similar is the prison system. Although, even in the prison system, you are not forced to be with people simply because you are the same age!

Agreed! Society seems to think that EVERYONE deserves a college degree. Why? Only so people can feel good about education. Life is our best educator.

Yes I totally agree with this post... education degree is not meant everything,talent and intelligence are also another important things..i live in undeveloped country where education system is not good and if you get degrees also you don’t get opportunities.but many people who don’t have degrees they are doing business and thay are successful..don’t know much about elon musk but really like what he said and his personality.

I really believe that the gift of a man maketh way for him. I have not been able to get into college to conclude my degree, but I believe that one day I will do that, but am grateful for my gifts and talent and what I can do with it.
Formal Education or not a dedicated and hardworking man will be successful. I think I will go with what Elon Musk said.

I'm from Eastern Europe, so here school/university mean just a piece of paper good for...nothing. I'm glad I study psychology because I found people/teachers who want to change something: maybe how you are, how you feel, intensity of emotions, helps you to not give up, helps you to find a better self. But this kind of people are just 1/50, so yes...I don't give a f....for it!

You don't need a degree when you are recipient of over $6 Billion in taxpayer money from a State which you weren't even born.
I think the education system works for some, but not everyone. We are told to believe that it works for everyone and that is the problem. That Isn't to say that education isn't important, rather the path towards that goal is filled with special interests and at the end a diploma is not some golden ticket to prosperity.
I do not believe in the educational system, the diplomas have value only when you go to hire, we have to read, to inform, to educate ourselves
elon musk knows that the current education system is a fraud,
that's why he founded a new school for his kids , it's inspiring to see how much he has accomplished without being tied up to the current education system.
