RE: Parent-teacher relationships - The good, the bad and the ugly

in #education8 years ago (edited)

I would go nuts with worry! My son is in a Waldorf school and I wouldn't have it any other way. You get to know the teachers so well, in fact, teachers are required to have a cup of coffee with each parent at least once a year. And you can give gifts, but ONLY if they are hand-made, which I think is a brilliant concept. While I am not over friendly with my son's current teacher, I know her enough to trust that my child is in good hands. If it wasn't for Waldorf education (stems from Germany), I would definitely home school.

I am so glad that your son is in a great school. Over here in the Middle East, we do not have much of a choice. Luckily, it's only me who has the problem about the communication and I can rest assured as I know that my kids are very happy and does not complain one bit.

I think that they are probably more strict in the Middle East on who they employ to teach, and you are also more unlikely to step out of line as a teacher, since I am sure the repercussions will be stronger - so knowing that, I'd sleep a bit better at night too. That and having open communication with your child, who can confide in you if something IS wrong.
