RE: The Curation and Engagement Leagues πŸ† - STEEM prizes & steem-bounty available! 🎁

in #engagement β€’ 7 years ago

Wow, that was different! I know that I hadn't been around as much as past weeks, but I felt like I should have been able to get toward the bottom of the Top 10. I thought maybe my name got missed... then I kept scrolling.

It's a different game now, that's for sure. It seems that some people were already doing what needed to be done to stay toward the top, but I'm going to have to change some things if I want to get back up there as I dropped even out of the Top 25. It seems like PS and CR are the two biggest factors, so I'll have to up both of those if I want to raise my position.

Congrats to the winners. @janton won for the 8th week in a row. Why do we even bother to try. We should just given Janton the top prize and not even consider him in the standings. Then we'd actually have some variety in the standings. Heh. Good job!

@glenalbrethsen, the rules have changed, but you still did really well. It looks like PS is going to be your key to victory, so go find 1,000 people to talk to. ;) That CL was insane and I figured would definitely be enough to win, but when the game changes, there's nothing you can do about that other than adapt. Good luck.

@lynncoyle1 great job hanging in there, even on a slower week for you. Well done!

@abh12345 thanks as always for encouraging us to get out there and engage!

Hey!

Thanks for the feedback on the 'PS'.

A few things.

The scoring may not be right for this new metric, but a felt that the placing should were mainly based on how much text was produced. While this is clearly important and mostly the case still, I felt that it would be good to reward those opening their circle of friends out. The other advantage here is that scores are less related to 'time available to steem'.

I'd like some more feedback on the new metric, I may have some below but I'm responding in order of comment.

Thanks for your input thus far 😊

I don't know if it's feedback. I was trying to keep it more to personal observational status. As in, "I scored here" as opposed to "this new system is bad." It's not bad or good, it's just different in a way that didn't work as favorably for me. Doesn't mean it's not a better (or worse) representation of engagement. It's just different.

It might be less related to "time available to steem." I'm not sure. I think that those who spend more time are still going to get higher scores. There isn't really a way to calculate "score per minute." ;)

What I'm trying to say is that I don't have any recommendations on what I think you should change (or not change). Just a few observations. Thanks again for helping people get a feel for how they did. :)

I'll take anything words regarding them the EL as feedback, and spend plenty of time thinking about what do next.

You are probably the standout case where the new metric hasn't worked in an accounts favor and engagement style. I've commented to crypto-econom1st with the reasons behind the metric, but perhaps there is a weight adjustment to be made.

It's all good, man. I was a bit disappointed not to get a prize, but you don't owe me a thing and it's not owed to me by "the universe" either. I just do the best I can and if it works out, great. If not, then I still got to talk with some cool people.

Don't stress too much about getting the formula right. It's hard to quantify it through finite data points that only measure specific things. I think you're doing a great job! Thanks for taking the time to run it. :)

Thanks @themanwithnoname; I have a feeling next week will be slower still for me. It is a different game here now :)

Yeah, it was a bit disheartening to not place in the top 25 after having placed in the top 10 consistently with that effort. We'll see how much I end up doing. I was getting burned out, at least partially to compete in the contest. I may need to take another break. Enjoy your time off. If you can't find me on Steemit, hit me up on Discord. Give Brian my best! :)

I can imagine it was! Take a break; it's a good thing to do. Brian just went to bed, so I'm getting some done here now, but I'll pass along your message tomorrow. And no worries, I'll stay in touch :)

thank you sir @themanwithnoname for the heartfelt congratulations! Looking at some of these numbers though, any of the top 5 could win with a little more time spent on it so who knows what will happen. Glen is always right there, now we have veryspider who talked to more people than I even KNOW, the amazing ecoinstant was traveling all week and too busy doing other things and he came in 4th? He has a large group to engage with and must be a very fast typist with good internet. Of course Lynn can jump up in levels if she has the time, look at cicisaja coming up strong and bengy and hananali. Hananali works a full time job for cryin out loud and look at him rocket up into the top ten, maybe I've been doing too good of a job mentoring him! lol. Plus that scary noname guy can come back anytime if we could get him out of the coin shop.

You did really well. I don't know how you keep increasing your numbers.

Something about what I'm doing isn't working well in the new system. The week I had would have been top 10 (I believe) based on how it's been in weeks past. I'll need to change something if I want a higher place.

Glen will always be a good competitor. He's active, and he likes to chat with people.

I haven't met veryspider, but it seems like they have a wide network.

That' crazy that ecoinstant got that score while traveling. Amazing.

I think Lynn is going to be stepping back a bit for now, but I think sooner or later she'll be back with a vengeance.

Bengy is a competitor, but he got most of his points by being on multiple voting trails and dropping 1% votes on many people. He is doing something right for the new formula, but I think he's got to up his CL. Still, watch out for him. :)

I haven't been a big fan of hananali. I looked at a few of his early articles and found that they were blatantly plagiarized. Someone even reported him to steemcleaners and he got flagged. Rather than repent, he flagged the steemcleaners' comment. Ha ha. I thought about trying to mentor him and tell him that he won't get far in the long-term by plagiarizing, but I don't have the energy for it. I did check back and see that he had started writing some personal stuff that wasn't taken from someone else's work, but I'm not in a place where I want to be figuring out if his work is copied or not. I'd rather just follow real people at this point.

Ha ha, I don't know that I spend that much time in the coin shop. I was there a while the last time because I had to wait for the people in line. I still had a good time and enjoyed getting to look at all they had to sell. One day I'm going to go in there and buy everything they have! That would make for a great post! :D :D :D

well sir, you will be back up in the top ten if you want to be, I'm sure you and Glen will figure the newer metrics out, I don't understand any of it or plan anything, I just try to talk to as many people as I can and also try to vote as many as I can on a low sp power.
after seeing veryspiders PS numbers I need to meet more people I guess!
Maybe I WILL pick it up in pace this week, we'll see. dang one comment away from 1200, that would have been nice.

I think Hananali has improved a great deal.
but we'll see, you never know what's going to happen the next week.
thank you sir, it's a great pleasure to visit with you all week.

It's going to be a little while before I hit top 10 again, I think. I'm going to be less involved for the next few weeks. Real life stuff that I'll be tending too. I'll still be around though.

Yeah, PS ended up being really highly weighted. Those who were already talking to a lot of different people did well with the new system.

I'm glad to hear that Hananali has gotten better. There are so many spammers and scammers on here already that I was disappointed to see him doing the same thing. I was going to comment to him, but it's often easier just to ignore than to try to correct. If someone gets angry, they can make things more difficult, so I have switched more to just letting them do what they want and then fail on their own if they don't change.

Yeah, it was fun to chat with you as well. I hope you have a great week!

howdy today Blondie! well sir, I will be spending less time on here now and then also, especially the way the competition has gotten on the League. If it gets to where people have to spend 70 hours a week just to make it to the top 5 then few can do that consistently and it would also start to feel like work! yuck who needs that?
thank you sir, it's always a pleasure to talk to you!

Yeah, it was starting to feel like work, and getting bumped so far down with the new algorithm has actually given me some freedom to not care how I rank. I'm just going to have fun and do what I want. I don't care enough about 1-3 Steem that I'm going to burn myself out over it.

Enjoy your day!

howdy again sir Blondie! I couldn't agree with you more and we'll all be there sooner or later I'm sure. We need you to be functioning at a level that you're comfortable with so you can keep doing what you do so well!

hey @themanwithnonameβ€”well, thanks for key to victory. I'm not sure how it's possible to talk to 1,000 different people in a week, but it's definitely something to shoot for, I guess. One thing is for certain. As you said, change is needed to stay in the Top 10, and that's probably a good thing to some extent. Obviously depends on the change, and for the time being, the jury may still be out on at that one.

We'll see how things go. :)
