Welcome to this weeks Engagement and Curation leagues, kindly sponsored by the awesome @curie!

News of sorts

  • A new column for the Engagement league. The number of individuals spoken to in the last 7 days (PS), with a (secret) minimum length of reply for the interaction to count!

  • I am way behind on replies to people, apologies, I will catch up I promise :)

To enter the leagues drop a comment below (for a lifetime membership - you will need to ask to be removed)

The league tables are reset each week and so any time is a good time to join!

On your marks, get set, curate!

The Engagement League - Sponsored by @curie

This league is not based around financial rewards and relates to engagement.

Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - including those powering down or dealing in delegations over the past couple of weeks.

I've used some metrics (which is the fancy way of saying that made up some numbers) relating to:

  • Posts (P)
  • Comments - number of (C)
  • Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
  • Number of people spoken to (PS)
  • Comments - length in characters (C L)
  • Witness votes (W) (for those proxying witness votes, your total is always 30)
  • Upvotes to others (V)
  • Upvotes to different authors (U V)
  • Self-votes - a (getting smaller each week) minus score for this one sorry! (S V)

Firstly, if you are placed in the table above then you among the top 25% of the league entrants!

Congratulations to this weeks Engagement League winner, 8 in a row, the undisputed king of engagement...... @janton! ๐Ÿ†

@janton has placed first for two months in a row now, and in this time has submitted around 2 million characters to the Steem blockchain, amazing!

In second this week, we have @veryspider who has spoken to 183 different people (with at least XX amount of characters in the message), very well done!

A previous multiple champion, @glenalbrethsen is in third place with almost 280,0000 characters typed this past week across 408 comments - an average of 688 per reply!

Excellent engagement levels also from @ecoinstant @lynncoyle1, @cicisaja, @bengy, @abh12345, @hananali, @gillianpearce, @funbobby51 who will all be receiving some STEEM this week.

Those without a self-vote (from their main account at least! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ) and placed in the top ranks will also receive a little STEEM. These people are: @headchange, @bashadow, @denmarkguy, @anouk.nox, @nomadicsoul, @artgirl, and @crypto-econom1st.

Well done everyone!

The Curation League / Rewards based

Please find the rules in a previous post.

The end column is what I think is a genuine indicator of how well you are financially working the curation game with the tools, including vested Steem Power, that you have at your disposal.

Bravo @miniature-tiger for taking top spot this week!

This is really awesome!

Firstly because I personally like a bit of change. I see this as a new challenge.
Secondly it shakes things up. I see some new names in the top of the ranking.
And thirdly I think this helps in making new friends and talking to Steemonians outside our current circles.
Last but not least I can analyze the numbers again. I didn't have to much time to do so this week.

However I believe this does create the possibility to beat @janton so once in a while. One basically needs a very popular account to do so. Cause if such a person writes a few posts they will receive so many reactions which score them points for PS that they might win that week. To bad that I never have posts with 250+ comments....

What is precisely the definition of Number of people spoken to?
I send them a comment? They send me a comment? Or both?

I notice 1 improvement, you could write PS as header for each part of the table.

Next I have a question. Did you consider to post the table as Steemit table instead of snapshot? That way you would tag everyone. That might help so once in a while to attract all Steemians that won't read this post every week.

Thanks for this comment, very complete ๐Ÿ˜

I guess I missed 'PS' for each section of the table, it will be there next time. Both tables could be markup with tags, do you think people would be ok with that? 200 (max) names is a lot of shoutouts!

As far as PS scoring (comments you make to individual accouhts), some have suggested there is too much weight on this metric, but for the reasons you state:

  • encouraging friend-circle growth
  • mixing the top 10 up
  • new challenge
  • and additionally, making the EL less of a time/typing competition

I'm reasonably happy with the metric score. Some members placed lower than expected, but the scoring is the same for all, and so it's just a case of adapting.

I'm tempted, as @enjar suggested last week, to alter the weight of one metroc each week, or add a secret metric, to further give a chance to accounts specialising in a particular scoring area, but will likely not do that until the dust has settled.

I think that's everything covered!

Ohw one more thing. I was thinking, let's assume that Bernie Sanders participates in the engagement league. Do you think he would end up pretty high some weeks?
As he sometimes creates like 5 so called funny posts where 200+ comments are below the posts. So he could score a real high PS score and grab the prize ๐Ÿ˜Ž

He's very welcome to join!

I'm not sure, i think comment count / length / short replies to many will leave his score quite short.

I do think he's quite funny sometimes. So perhaps I should invite Bernie myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I would use the tagging just once in a while. You could also use it in combination with a remark/question to ask if people like it or not and let you know in the comments.

I really like Enjars idea to change the calculation. Although I would suggest to do this one in a few weeks.

I'm still not sure how I score 1 PS point?
Do I need to talk to someone? Or someone to me? Or both?
Or will you just keep that a secret?

Congrats with the 7th place @bengy ! Your Upvote Share [worth 3.380 Steem] has been assigned to you and you will start receiving a daily upvote from the @upvoteshares account from now. For more info on how the project works check out all the details in this post.

3.38 STEEM - nice one @bengy!

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Thanks again for running this contest /analysis! It is really interesting to see our metrics... I have a feeling one of my posts (which I'm struggling to keep up with replies) for me boosted into the lucky 7 spot has week...

Edit :Oops, I forgot to thank my sponsor, @costanza thank you thank you! Sorry, I thought I was sponsored by @upvoteshares! Thanks again, sorry for the misreading!

No worries, I will have to check this post out!

Wow, thanks so much! I only just found out about your project a few days ago (via @thedarkhorse), I'm honoured to have your support and thank you for sponsoring the league!

omg i didnt even realize i had been that engaged this week lol

..... :coldsweat:

congrats to all winners and thank you @abh12345 <3 <3

Spider, the art community would be a very different place without your marvelous engagement!

I use, among a few other sources, the @c-squared blog very heavily to find great content to engage with, and your influence does not go unnoticed; that you find them before @c-squared simply amazes me!

Its users like you that make this platform such a fun place to be. Thank you for all that you do!

awah, thank you thank you, your words are very kind and makes me think maybe i have wings hahahaha thanks very much !!!!

Well done for reaching so many people and taking 2nd prize this week @veryspider!

thank you asher <3 you are super !

you are awesome @veryspider, congratulations!

you are amazing yourself, @cicisaja <3

howdy there @veryspider! tremendous job this week! extremely impressive especially the PS number, I don't even know that many people! great job and good luck next week!

you are super incredible with your engagement level ! KING OF ENGAGEMENT !!!!

great, great job and good luck next week, also !!!!

hey I don't know even half the people you do! haha! that's amazing and your score and achievement this week was remarkable!
thank you and the same to you!

haha @veryspider! Just commenting on the c-squared posts alone is engaged :)

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Thanks Ash, I appreciate this. I know veryspider comments on the c-squared posts too, so that explains those numbers :) I was doing the same, but such is life :) Have a great Sunday.

Congratulations to @janton, again!!! and @veryspider ! Nice job :)

Lynn, you are fabulous, and as everything else in life, these things cycle (except possibly for Janton....). I know that I cannot keep this up forever, and eventually my attention will be turned to something or another else and then I will drop off on commenting.

But the experience, the connections, the FUN! that I am having (and it seems like you are too!) is worth every bit, for me at least. So many articles, so many users so happy to get a few nice comments on their articles!

But I don't think the top spots are all that sustainable, over the long run. There will always be hungry new users cycling in and life and stuff cycling us out.

Blessings to you and all that you do!

Thank you @ecoinstant, and I'd agree, except for @janton who doesn't seem to tire, everyone else will probably slow down a bit eventually :)

It is great fun commenting and meeting new people here too. I've gotten so busy with the things that I have to do here, that I miss just searching and reading articles :)

Thanks again for such a sweet comment!

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Yes, agreed. After a much sought after victory I would like to return to searching some favorite tags and finding the diamonds in the rough! I have a few other fun plans to do as well, but I have set my mind to a goal and shall achieve it :)

Enjoy life, and take some pictures for us ;-p

Thank you @ecoinstant! I hope to soon :)

You wouldn't be interested in being an occasional judge for us at the Pay it Forward Contest of thedarkhorse's, would you? Fell free to say no please. We just had one of our judges have to leave and we're thinking of finding several who are interested in doing it on a rotating basis.

I love judging things! I'm not familiar with the contest, but let's try one and see!

Here's a link to last week's contest so you can check it out, and I'll talk to the other judges to make sure it's all good.

Thanks and stay tuned... :)

We've got someone for this week already @ecoinstant, but you're on our list now haha

howdy this fine Sunday evening @lynncoyle1! thank you so much but my mind is blown by how high you can score while being away and doing so many other things..must be the world's greatest multitasker working with extreme efficiency! (maybe you can teach me how to type fast)

Hey @janton, thanks for that! I remember typing class in high school, on typewriters lol That's where it all started!

that's nothing, when I was in High School they just came out with typewriters! ha! no but we had manuals and then they came out with electrics. Still didn't help my speed.

hahaha the good ol' days @janton ๐Ÿ˜… Not!

Thank you Lynn.

You scored higher than I expected this week, so very well done for finding the time!

My best wishes as always for you guys x

Thanks Asher; it was mid-week when I made the decision to slow things down, so I think the true test will be where I place next Sunday :) Thanks again!

A big congratulations to @janton, definitely the king of engagement! Mind blown! And congratulations to everyone else in the winner's circle, as well as all the participants in general... we all deserve to get a pat on the back for being part of something that's definitely building community and counteracting Steemit's retention issue. I sense a lot of loyalty here!

The new "Lucky 7" bonus looks interesting... I'm going to have to check out @costanza's initiative.

Managed to scratch my way back into the top 40 this week, which I consider pretty much a personal success. And back in the curation listings too, after an absence. Seems like a hit-or-miss thing for me.

Last but not least, a big thanks to @abh12345 for coordinating the leagues! Definitely my favorite challenge on Steemit!

Happy Sunday everyone!

=^..^=

Thank you very much for your kind comments @curatorcat,it means a lot to me to receive positive feedback for the Leagues.

It's great that this post has in some ways built a community of active and engaged Steemians, I never envisioned this when I started out.

The new metric I added this week, any thoughts on how it has changed proceedings?

Thanks again!

I like it because it works and it builds community and I believe it has the kind of gift economy and pay-it-forward spirit that Steemit originally set out to spread.

The new metric? It certainly made the aggregate scores a lot higher... but I'm not sure how it will motivate people. Hopefully it will encourage people to go visit more new folks they don't otherwise see.

=^..^=

Hopefully it will encourage people to go visit more new folks they don't otherwise see.

One of the main reasons for it's introduction. Perhaps there is too much weight on the metric range right now, we shall see if that changes..

howdy to you @curatorcat! thank you and I've enjoyed our conversations this week and you placed pretty good yourself!

omgosh... these numbers are crazy good... Congrats to @janton for winning in a field that is blowing away all the records... @veryspider and @glenalbrethsen you both are amazing too... I am amazed at the level of engagement that all 3 of you have going! And really its five amazing performances, if you factor in @ecoinstant and the Queen @lynncoyle1. It is truly incredible to witness this level of engagement and you make all of us proud to be here when we see what the top 5 here have done!

Fantastic! :)

Hey, @davemccoyโ€”well, thanks for the shoutout here. I'm feeling like the odd man out here, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the sentiment. Times change and so we need to roll with the times, right? Good luck with whatever endeavors you have going on this week. No doubt, they are legion and legendary. :)

@glenalbrethsen I wouldn't feel that way ... Omgosh, you all 5 really are completely lighting it up... less than 10% away from the top for any of you is a very small amount. But yes it nice to see a new era and some interesting times I think will be ahead! I am never going to count you out though... As long as you are here, I have no doubt you will be commenting sincerely. That's what you did even before Asher's league. ;)

Well, we'll see. I'm starting to feel the need to wind down somehow. I'm not making much headway against our gentleman redneck, and it's hard to tell from week to week where the next surprise is going to come from. With people taking time off and still managing to end up high in the ranking, I need to figure out how that happens because i spend way too much time just trying to stay in second. This time, it didn't happen, obviously. So, anyway. Not complaining. Just observing, and hopefully adapting. :)

less than 10% away from the top for any of you is a very small amount.

In previous weeks, this was certainly not the case and therefore I'm quiet pleased that the new metric score has tightened things up at the top. Cheers!

howdy sir @davemccoy! haha! it is pretty cool to see the numbers, I'm not talking about mine but the CL numbers of Glen and veryspider's PS number..I don't even KNOW that many people on here! And I know that @ecoinstant was busy traveling all week and doing other things and then he still puts up those kinds of numbers and comes in 4th? lol! Wait till he gets back in his office and has some time. Lynns numbers are mind-blowing for not being on steemit much! I'm pretty amazed and don't have a clue if I will be leading next week but whoever wins deserves it! thank you sir!

hehehehe I'm just warming up!

Let me make some faces here to make sure I get the character count ;p XD :-P

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

hey @ecoinstant can't you go to some other contest to warm up? lol.

Sure! Right after I win this one ;p

Rats foiled again! ok well do what you must.

@janton yes omgosh... that is out of this world... I can't believe how big all the numbers were. Back in the "old days" when I was young in the league, these numbers would've made 3 weeks total... I'm simply floored... All the top 5 are truly outstanding and I'm very happy and proud of all of you for sure!

It was mid-week before I decided to slow it all down @janton, so the true test will be seen next Sunday :)

well unless you already know what this week is going to be like you could have more time than you had last week right?

Point well taken @janton!!โค๏ธ

Thanks for the mention! I am so glad that the prize pool is so deep, because the competition has become very intense! The real benefit to engagement I think is being seen, especially in the curation communities where featured authors are getting people looking at their posts and interacting. This is really good for the platform and user retention, getting users rewarded is part but not the whole picture, getting them tied into the community is the next part of the secret sauce!

beautifully said sir, it's obvious why you are moving up so fast! I've really enjoyed our conversations this week and look forward to many more!

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

I could write whole books on the still unanswered questions from your comments to me! You are a true conversationalist! It always seems like you are really interested, and I can't believe you would fake it all week for the 6 bucks or whatever you win here!

This week I will have to start asking you more questions!

nonono I have nothing to say! haha! seriously though sir you know the love we have as Believers, which isn't ours, but it flows through us and that's what I have for people and am sincerely interested in them. It has also increased my prayer list significantly! lol.

The truth is I'm just having a blast and it's not work it's fun and interesting. If I had to fake anything I wouldn't do it.

Agreed 111%!

The prayer list is fantastic, the interaction with real people. I find that it is a special brand of pioneering, creative person that finds their way onto an experimental platform like this. Just the type of people that need powerful prayer warriors working in their favor!

howdy again my friend and vanquisher sir ecoinstant! perfectly said sir, I couldn't agree more and wish I could have stated it like that! lol.

@ecoinstant I completely agree with you and its amazing to see your numbers. I am a huge fan of Asher's league and now that you are involved I think we will have another major driver of enthusiasm for not only the league but also for engagement in general! Its awesome to see and I love that you jumped right to the top! The weeks ahead will be fun and I agree completely that user retention is the number 1 issue (and that starts with engagement no doubt!) Nice to meet you :)

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

And a pleasure to meet you!

I've been sneaking up over the last month, three weeks ago I didn't see myself, two weeks ago I appeared, last week I got my first steem for no-self voting!

Enthusiasm is my clarion call, I try a lot of things but I go at them with my all! Great engagement, like we were talking with Janton, is not a chore its a pleasure! And if my pleasure is rewarded, and good for the platform, what more could one ask for?

I see a lot of excited younger users starting to find out about and participate in this engagement league. This thing might turn the tide on the low numbers, having fun pays on/in steem!

@ecoinstant I agree with you completely! To me this is "the" place to be. Most of the people that are serious contributors seem to want to be here and most of them are really helping to grow and encourage the newer/smaller folks. That will the be lifeblood going forward, so I'm thrilled to see we are in complete agreement! :)

Hey, since we are having a conversation, an 'engagement' ;p

how do you feel about the currently 'open' system of steemit (I have referred to it as the 'everything' drawer) versus future possible 'closed' communities on each d.app or token (SMT). Do you think this will increase or decrease engagement?

I think of this in terms of how people react to certain content, especially zappl, steepshot, or even some types of poetry, as being not 'full' enough, or 'low-effort'.

Interested in hearing your thoughts about the future of this neat platform of possibilities!

I still consider myself new even though I've been here since Dec... But my thinking is the rewards are too concentrated at the top for steemit to be anything huge. In order for them to be distributed more, I think the price will have to go lower or a new buyer to emerge.

I know Steemit INC seems to be primarily focused on the tech part of the platform, but feel they have seriously missed an opportunity to encourage true engagement. The ones that have survived in my class are the ones that are unique, but many many have gone. I'm hoping one day they will "hire" people like Asher through a nice delegation to get down and encourage the newbies to get involved. So far he has some help, but from very few people with much power.

I'm hoping that the smart tokens come out as another currency that will spur some stick activities here. A good example could be steem monsters. If they can give their own rewards in SM bucks for instance, I think it would make that game even more fun. (and attract even more people to the platform)

I am one that is encouraged about the SMTs, but I also recognize that they are very past due and may never actually arrive. I am not too concerned about the low quality of the fringe apps, because my thinking is that if they can attract the right people then those things fade away.

In some ways they've attracted some stars, but I hope they wake up and keep them here too! People like the top 5 here in this game. We need you to be energized and spreading the love here regularly!

Just my 2 cents :P ... I welcome any reply back for sure :D

Thanks Dave! The numbers really are crazy! I think I'm going to let the big boys run with it from here :)

Oh I see it Dave; just don't know that I'm up for the challenge is all ๐Ÿ˜Ž

@lynncoyle1 I understand... it takes a lot of work and your mind has to be in it. Shit you have kept it up longer than me, so I really respect the hell out of you for that! How are you doing? Did you have a good weekend?

Thanks Dave; I was going to tell you to put your diagram to use for yourself lol Thanks for the respect though!!

How am I doing? Have a look at my last post if you can please. It's easier for me than trying to explain here.

ok will do now

May I join the leagues?

You certainly can - added!

Good morning/afternoon, @abh12345.

Thanks for the leagues, and thank you for giving us new challenges and new opportunities to engage.

Thank you, @curie for the ongoing sponsorship. I can't speak for everyone, but I do believe that all of us are appreciative of you all's involvement and desires to see engagement flourish on the STEEM platform.

Congratutlations to @janton for consecutive win No. 8. It's tough to find new superlatives. You've taken on all challengers and now even a category change and made it through with plenty of room to spare. Well done, sir!

@veryspiderโ€”amazing amount of different people spoken to during the week. You've set the bar. Now it's up to the rest of us to try to chase it.

@ecoinstant, @lynncoyle1, @cicisaja, @bengy, @hananali, @gillianpearce, @funbobby51โ€”congratulations on making it or remaining in the Top 10. And just what are we calling the No. 7 place winner now? Lucky No. 7? Well done.

@smithlabs, @headchange, @bashadow, @steevc, @blazing, @denmarkguy, @teutonium, @tarazkp, @anouk.nox, @nomadicsoul, @artgirl, @chireerocks, @crypto-econom1st, and @brittandjosieโ€”congratulations to all of you as well. You all made the Top 25. You should all consider that as no small feat. Well done.

Onward and upward. :)

Thanks for the mention. I am pretty excited to even make the list. I love the league because I can challenge myself each week to do a bit more. This has to be one of the best projects on the platform. Everyone trying to up their numbers each week has to have an impact on the platform as a whole.
This was actually a pretty ingenious idea. Just think of how everyone on this list is expanding their circle each week and reaching more and more people. Maybe adding that new column to the scores will even increase that.

Oh, I believe it will dramatically, especially if people want to stay in the Top 10 each week. Regardless of the leagues, the more we can reach out, the better. :)

I concur with everything else you've said. It is one of the best projects, it is great for the platform, and we just need to get more and more people involved.

We should organize a go for the green week to promote the league. I know I need to spread the word more than I do. Never know when one of us will stumble upon another top five contender. I am sure they are out there just not getting counted yet.

I think Asher signed up quite a few after the total CL list he came up with, I think it was only last week still. He published two last week, so that's confusing me at the moment. :)

What he probably needs to do is run a list of the top 50 who have commented with unique users over a week's period of time. That would probably draw more of those folks out. Not sure if that query is possible, since he was having us do that individually last week, too. :)

Thanks! A completely unexpected placing this week!

Hey, @bengy. That's what happens when a category gets added to the engagement list results! You never know what's going to happen from one week to the next anyway, but even more so when there's something else to keep in mind. I think it's good, though. Helps us to get out there more, and hopefully engaging with folks in meaningful ways in the process.

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

I only just realised there was a new category! But in the end it doesn't really affect the way I Steem, just a nice surprise when I manage a decent placement! Also, interesting to see the statistics.

That's probably the best way to go about, @bengy. If you have a way of doing things that is working for you, there's no reason to change it. In my case, I've been trying to re-evaluate what I've been doing, so this change comes in the middle of that. Not sure what all will come of any tweaking, but I'm hoping to not only show up on this list, but the curation one as well. I've fallen off of it for weeks. :)

Thanks! Yeah it's my first time to get that 1 Steem for no self-upvote. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well, STEEM is STEEM, right? We all start somewhere. Regardless, the engagement league reminds us to engage, and if we're doing that, I think we're on the right track for us and STEEM. So, today it's an award for no self-upvote. Next week, who knows. Asher changes something else, and it's anyone's game. :)

Thank you @glenalbrethsen ! Have a great day!

Well, you're welcome, and I wish you a good day and week, too. Never seems like there's ever enough time to get to everything, but hey. We just keep trying, don't we? :)

Lol that's absolutely true! But it would be even more exhausting if the days had 36 hours in it, I guess.. so maybe it's better like this :)

Oh, probably wouldn't want that many more, but maybe four hours? Yeah, that probably wouldn't work, because the next thing you know I'd be asking for six, and that still wouldn't be enough. Guess it's a good thing it doesn't matter either way, right? I am not the time master. :)

Dear Glen,
Thank you very much, an achievement with alot off joy. I am in My 8 month here and never expected it to be so great. Planning to stay here for a while. And congrats to you too well done๐Ÿ‘

Well, that's good to hear. The engagement league has kept me going, that's for sure. I'm pretty much in my eighth month, too, and I marvel that I'm still here and I also wonder what i would do without it. :) I guess somewhere in the middle would be a good place to be. I'm glad you're happy with what you're doing. Any major ideas or plans in the works?

Just keeping steady and be as divers as possible seems to be the plan for the next 4 months and than I Will See what I have to Change and invest

Sounds like a good plan to me. Consistency and diversity, evaluate, change if necessary and grow. The specifics of what and how and when reveal themselves, right? It's probably not always as simple as I just described it. I'm just liking the plan. No need to overthink when you can work it on the fly and only change things if they're not going in the direction you'd like them to go.

Spot on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Thank you for the inspiration @glenalbrethsen , getting appreciation from a top steemian is no small feat either. Keep supporting and appreciating and above everything keep writing all those millions of words you are writing. Your stats were clearly very impressive. And true that, Onward and upward :)

You say so. I'm putting in the time, mostly. Without it, I couldn't do what I've been doing. And my wife would rather I did something else, anyway. :)

That's the thing, putting a lot of time . For people that's the toughest part, this is waht i was discussing with @janton on that other post, people are not patient enough to stay on steemit and the retention rate is only 6% out of the people who join in here. people need to learn to give it more time and they will get to the required spot too.

Retention is low, and while some of it is patience, it's an uphill climb, much steeper than it needs to be. I don't know if it has to be effortless, but it could be lots of effort and greater reward. Waiting for STEEM to go back up seems to be most people's plan for success here and that's hardly something any of us control.

I'm afraid what's biting into the retention now is are all the folks who are waiting weeks to get approved, and then forgetting they even have an account or getting fed up with the fact that it took so long. We've got folks that don't even get to the "patience" part. :)

Did you know I actually have big feet. I really have size EU 50. How did you know that?

I think it should be easier to beat Janton now. Although it would be nice if he makes it up to 10 consecutive wins. 8 seemed already impossible, but he's just terrific!

Yeah, very funny. Feat and feet. Nice play on words. I don't even know what a size EU 50 is. Size 50 here would put you into Godzilla-sized shoes, I think. :)

It could be easier. Depends on what janton does, though. As for him winning 10, as long as he's out there earning it each week, no problem. I wouldn't characterize it as nice, though. I mean, I think he's cool, too, but I'm not rooting for him over anyone else, including me. :)

I'm quite certain that's US size 15.

Do you also measure my lent like 6 feet 8"?

I suppose so. I mean, I guess if you're something like 2.03 meters, that would work out to 6' 8". Not trying to stereotype, but did you or do you play any sports? Basketball or rugby maybe? I'd say American Football but that seems more unlikely. You'd be pretty big for a soccer player.

BMX
Volleyball
Table tennis

That's about it

Well, volleyball is definitely a good sport for tall people, especially if you can jump and spike. Table tennis is interesting, but imagine long arms help. BMX I'm not familiar with enough to say how height affects it, but I'm sure it's fun. :)

Hi Glen, thanks for the shoutout! The leagues are definitely an important part of Steemit, and a great way to encourage those who come here with genuine aspirations to "build something."

I only added myself four weeks ago... because I was curious to see how "significant" what I've already been doing for the past year and a half would be, in the group like this; I'm definitely "quietly pleased with myself" that my efforts place me in the top-25.

Hey, @denmarkguy. It's a good "quietly pleased with yourself" to be. And also a good feeling to know that you've been going about it in good fashion, too. Even if you are pretty sure of the way forward, it's nice to have confirmation of it at some point, as well as to see how you might be doing or not doing, based on some benchmarks.

I wish I'd come across the leagues much sooner, or been smarter about it to begin with. I think it would have saved me some ranting and disappointment. Or maybe not. Those things seem to be inherent on STEEM anyway. :)

Thanks for the roll-call Glen, I'm sorry about the tardy replies here this last week. It won't happen again :)

Congratulations on your prize!

Hey, @abh12345.

When I saw this, I thought, Uh, I didn't do a roll call this time. :) I went to the new engagement post first and commented and have been working my way up through the replies I have since Saturday night. So, It took me a second to realize this was from last week and that's where the tardiness was coming from, too :)

I know you're being courteous, and I'm glad for it, but you don't have to worry about answering a week old comment unless you really, really want to. :) No worries on my end.

I do have a couple of questions about how things work with the engagement league data collecting, though, if you don't mind. I know, here I go again. :)

  • The first has to do with the pull period. I've asked this before but it was mainly about when it was pulled, rather than the date range or period for which it is pulled. The question is, even though you may pull it earlier or later on Sunday, is the period of time of the data request always the same?

In other words, is it always, for just an example, a set period between the time on the previous Sunday through another set time on the following Sunday, or are the times where there may be overlap of some hours each week?

  • The second has to do with CR.

We've talked about where the starting point is on CR, but that was if a comment tree was being instigated or continued. From the top. Say, I posted, someone commented, and I replied. Or someone else posted, I commented and they replied.

What I'm wondering here is, what about if I come in on a conversation that's already two deep but that I wasn't apart of the conversation to begin with. Does my first comment get counted as two deep from the start, or is the way the data is getting pulled discount my initial jump in between two other parties and only start counting after that?

Thanks in advance for any answers you can give me.

This post replies are going on longer than the latest :D

The first has to do with the pull period. I've asked this before but it was mainly about when it was pulled, rather than the date range or period for which it is pulled. 7 days back from when I get my sorry backside out of bed. I don't think this matters too much, and the 'random' timing is perhaps more fair as we have people across many time zones. Saying that, 3/4 hours difference each week is unlikely to have a huge effect.

CR > 2

The Post is 0 (depth)
The first reply is 1
The 2nd reply is 2
The 3rd reply is when the points start coming into play.

If you were to jump into a conversation with a reply at depth > 2 then this would give you points.

I hope this helps!

This helps, @abh12345. Thank you. With the first question I'm now wondering if there might be an overlapping period from one week to the next, and if so, if comments within that overlapping period would get counted both weeks. I've never personally experienced that, but was wondering if it is possible. As far as when the data is pulled, that's obviously up to you. I make the choice not to get on Steemit on Sunday, so whatever activity goes on there until the list is pulled is what it is. I just try to seven days worth of work in whatever time I have. :)

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

There could be overlap if I pulled the data earlier than the previous week, some entries would be counted again.

If it's bugging people then I might change it to cover Sunday to Saturday, I don't think anyone else has mentioned it before :)

Oh, I'm sure no one has. I'm the only one who sits around thinking about these things, so I wouldn't change what you're doing at all. And it was mostly curiosity more than anything on my part. No one has asked or talked to me about any of this. So, no worries, and I do appreciate the answers.

Looks like the new formula shook things up a little bit, but over all not to much, but it is nice to see change. I think PS change/addition is a good one. It is nice to see people are talking to a lot of people. Not just glad handing and black slapping each other, so I like the new number.

Speaking of numbers, unbelievable two months, and all those words, congratulation @janton.

Things are going pretty good for myself, I think I am finding for me the right balance almost.I was stoked to see that I made it up to place 64 in the curation league. Almost earning 1 SP per 1000, Not sure what changed, I still vote for pretty much the same stuff all the time, so it must be that a few of the people here for ROI due to price levels must be taking a break. I think that is a bad decision, I mean look at me no real effort and almost 1 SP per 1000.

Back to Engagement. Like I said I like the new category. A little bit more work on my part and I might be able to claw my way back into the green, we will just have to see. It was a nice week here, a few sunny days with out the rain, but overall a nice week, in and out of doors. Congratulations to everyone on the list, Job well done by all.

Hey @bashadow

Thanks for the comment on the new metric, I feel it could be a useful one. I'm not 100% on the value attributed just yet, and it may change depending on feedback.

Glad to hear you are happy with the week a progress, positivity in a bear market is always welcome. The Engagement continues, whatever the weather ๐Ÿ˜Š

thank you sir @bashadow! Congratulations on your placing, you are always in the top brackets and I see your excellent comments everywhere. In fact, most of them I say man, I wish I could comment like that!

Thank you for that. I find it fun to leave a comment every now and then, with my vote. It is depressing looking at post with votes but no words, especially when they are good post.

howdy tonight @bashadow! yes it can be a little discouraging at times but you don't have that problem at least! what is that profile photo of, I can't make it out? lol.

It is my little chihuahua Granite. I have a picture of him somewhere, who knows where on my blog, I don't even know when. I Know the picture, he is on the beach with rocks and blends in. There use to be away to find the pictures you posted, but I lost the link to that page.

Thank you for the Steem prize @abh12345 and @curie for the sponsorship.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Have a great week evryone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

howdy @gillianpearce! congratulations for always being up in the Green no matter what you have going on, talk about consistent! that's a great role model.

howdy back to you @janton. Congratulations on being top again. You must really, really love this Steemit game. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well done you!

howdy today on this fine Monday @gillianpearce! yes Ma'am I'm having a great time and it's a blast so hopefully it will pay off some day. Thank you Ma'am!

My pleasure Gillian!

I hope you've enjoyed your away time, and that the new metric suits.

This reply comes at 4:11am local time, I should probably head to bed ๐Ÿ˜

This reply comes at 4:11am local time

Blimey. You're worse than me @abh12345. It was gone 1.00 a.m. by the time I went to bed this morning but that was after a day mostly spent travelling.

My time away was good, albeit very busy.

Looks like the new metric is moving me down the table, although I've had much less time for Steemit these last couple of weeks and the thing that suffers the most at such times is engaging with new accounts.

Working away last week was compounded by a truly rubbish internet connection that was frequently down.

However, I'm currently in a "bored now", want something new sort of place which wasn't helped by working with people face to face last week.

The grass is always greener and all that!

Just spent a few hours on the beach which was glorious and actually went for a swim since the water temperature has increased again. Brilliant!

Oh my. Steem is down to $1.15. I paid $1.17 for it yesterday. I was robbed! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hope you're still finding plenty of time to frequent the lilo!

Hope you're still finding plenty of time to frequent the lilo!

I'm thinking of taking the pink one for a spin today๐Ÿ˜

1.15/1.17, no biggie when the target is double figures!

I'm thinking of taking the pink one for a spin today

I'm sure you will look splendid upon it! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Steem's gone back to $1.19 now and I was too tired to buy some last night when it was $1.14. The sky is falling!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I would like to be added to this league.

Very well, you are now on my list - look out for the post on Sunday :)

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Whoaaaa... Congratulations @janton (save the place for me for more couple weeks), @veryspider, @glenalbrethsen, @ecoinstant, @lynncoyle1 (you are still the best no matter how little time you spent on Steemit..LOL), @bengy, @headchange (come on... green your name!) and everyone! People spoken to is the new things that make this league unbeatable challenging! thank you @abh12345 and @curie.

well. well.. look at you @macoolette and @stever82, what an achievement, both of you climbing up nicely.

Maybe this week I will go for the green. You know we should make that the league motto "go for the green"
I am still hoping one of you guys will have to take a nap or something so I can catch up a little bit. Don't you have a pumpkin to cook?

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Here is my pumpkin
image

I have one month to wait for it grows big enough to cook๐Ÿ˜‰ you want me to give a you a trick how to go for the green? Look at the second place... no need long characters.. but more people spoken to and keep the c-r-l with me or macoolette and 8 other people while you can .. more comments for sure.. 50 a days perhaps? Or you can try to stop @abh12345 from posting beautiful tabels๐Ÿ˜‚

I may grow pumpkin next year. This year I used my large spot for watermelon. Took up ten ft of garden space.
That sounds about right on the comment strategy. Pretty much same as I do now just twice as much. I must say all the new people I meet makes it very fun and worth while.

I always check the numbers of the top 10 to adjust my strategy and do you remember my 300 weekly target? I failed last week due to many household chores to take care of.. This week gonna be a hectic one.. I run out the internet data quota๐Ÿ˜‚ I don't know how long I can stand without connecting to Steemit. Two days.. is it enough for you to spread 100 comments so then I can catch up with you ๐Ÿ˜‰

I cant imagine trying to keep up with two days off. I took off one day this week and got way behind on replies. I do find planning my schedule on a week by week basis works well for me. Steemit takes a pretty big time chunk each week for sure.

I agree with you that steemit takes a pretty big time now, I try to maintain my name in green tables and sometime I passed my bedtime just to catch up with everyone. I will try to make a daily target and manage my time though I have so many stories to post.. so many agendas but so little time to spare.. well๐Ÿ˜‰ I can't let steemit rules my life, it's not fun at all.

Oh my gosh, I wish I could get my pumpkin to fruit like that. Very good job! What would you say is the secret for getting pumpkin to grow well from the start?

Be patience and talk to them as if you're talking to your kid (if you have any kid) and sometimes you should spank at them, threat them that you'll gonna rooted tgem if it doesn't bear any fruit๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ no.. that's not like that. Give them ladder to climb and spread their tendrils anywhere they want but you can direct them to anywhere you want. Enough water and minimum fertilizer and be patience. It tooks 6 months before they bear tge first fruit. Don't let them get too much water.

Ahh thank you. I'll cut back on the watering, and see if that helps.

How old is your pumpkin now?

๐Ÿ˜‚ spanking the pumpkin

Hahahaha.. sorry that I turn your post into a pumpkin exhibition ๐Ÿ˜„

Thats a beautiful squash!

I too noticed this tidbit, I do tend to post longer comments though, looks pretty similar to your character per comment score! But since it is about engagement, I think the real rewards are found outside of the league, I have received many upvotes on my comments too, many small, some larger! Perhaps I one day can tally how much it was worth in votes vs the potential to win a bonus here.

Blessings, it is an honor to participate with users like you!

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Oh there you go, consistent top engager. Haha.

Congratulations to all!

Posted using Partiko Android

Thank you @artgirl ๐Ÿ˜‰ love to see you still consistent with the yellow mark๐Ÿ˜Š hope that you can climb back to the green one, let's have some more fun.

Consistency is not my forte but thank you. haha. We'll see. :)

Thanks very much for stopping by and roll-calling the top spots @cicisaja, it's a pleasure as always to host the Leagues ๐Ÿ˜

howdy @cicisaja! hey I don't know that I will have the top spot to save for you so you better make it there this week!

Ooh.. I don't think I can do that, I'm going to prevent my fingers from so much work ๐Ÿ˜Š gotta take care of my pumpkin more. Steemit Engagement league is a nice place to have fun, whether you are at the bottom or number oneโœŒ

haha! you are saying that you need to give your fingers a rest? I totally understand, everyone needs to step back and take a rest now and then! God bless you cicisaja!

Hahaha.. you wish! Thank you @janton.. rest for two days and get crazy movin for the rest of the week.

ok lets do that!

aww thank you @cicisaja :) Congratulations to you as well!

Hey, @cisisajaโ€”thanks for the shoutout and congratulations on your own placement. Little by little, right? :)

One step at a time๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow thanks! Didn't make it to the top 10 on engagement but got a nice surprise for not self upvoting. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Posted using Partiko Android

Great! I hope the prize was worth the 'sacrifice'. ๐Ÿ˜

Yeah it was. It didn't feel like a "sacrifice" at all if I get 1 Steem. Lol.

How do you manage the no self upvotes? I seem to pick them up from the curation trails that I follow...

I just stop myself from upvoting my posts. Lol. I only follow a few curation trails...

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Haha! Yes, I don't upvote my posts on purpose, but the curation trails do, so I end up getting an accidental self vote that way...

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Awww... that's why. Haha. Perhaps the curation trails I follow don't like my posts. Lol.

๐Ÿ˜‚

You could take the vote off I feel you think it might be worth it? Just a suggestion, and up to you of course ๐Ÿ˜Š

I guess that's the easiest way, maybe I'll give that a go!

Ok screw it. Iโ€™d like to see where I rank in this madness!!!

Welcome. You're one of us now. Your Sundays will never be the same again

Am I added? So we get notified or am I just on it? Lol

Sunday Funday!!!!!!

Yeah, Asher will no doubt comment here with a confirmation (as you can see from the level of commenting on this post, replying to them all is a pretty busy gig) and you should see yourself on the list when the new rankings come out on Sunday.

Oh yeah. Hands are full there dealing with the madness! But I got the ok so Iโ€™m in! Appreciate letting me know about it. Anything to help give me a little extra kick in the ass is appreciated!

My pleasure mate. The more, the merrier I say - unless of course you're bidding in an auction scenario

This week was tough as I had family in town that stayed with us and we took a day trip to NY so I feel as though I slacked here a bit.

This is your notification :D Welcome the crazy house!

ABA6D255-2677-42E5-AD7A-E3DD095E86C8.gif

Ya hear that?!? Iโ€™m coming for you @janton!!!! Get yer name off my spot!!!

๐Ÿ˜œ

Its looks pretty good, i want to join the club :)

Great! A warm welcome to the club goes to you @kriptonik :)

Thanks!

lolz told ya I wont appear anywhere in that table. At least a few of my favourite steemians are in there:) Congrats to all the winners!

That is surprising. I would think with all those jokes you are always spewing forth you would be way on up there. I will have to come around and give you more to poke fun at in future weeks.

Hehe...yeah I've slowed down recently with comments. Busy with other stuff and more focused on the writing side of things. We can't do it all:) You are more than welcome to pop around and poke some fun! Having fun is important...

Agreed I have to choose where to focus Steem time myself I know how that is.
I have been taking a peek at some of your recent postings. Would you believe what brought me here was conspiracy? I was planning to make one of those Youtube channels. Some how landed here and got distracted learning the platform.
I will for sure be stopping by. I do rather enjoy the jokes.

I do believe you! Well, if you really do have an interest in politics or conspiracy, get involved in the deep dives community.๐Ÿ˜‰ But of course it depends what you want to spend your own time and energy on around here.

Thanks I have been considering it. That would probably be the kind of thing that would be a focus of the week eventually. This week may be all about going for the green on that engagement chart. Something in me just wants to prove I can do it.

lots of material there.

Ah well. Come again next week. I'm all the way on the bottom, so not much better there.

I may see you soon there @beeyou; I too am backing off to fulfill some real life committments :)

Beeyou, remember that this is the top 20% of users! The fact that you are on there already indicates very high engagement levels!

Yeah well like you say, it's tough to be an all-rounder. Worth being lifted just in case though I think!

Yeah, as long as you do it right!

I appear in the list, almost last but appeared!

This is only the top 100, there are close to 300 more people behind you this week so well done!

After this information I feel happier to appear on this list. =)

And thats the top 20%! Great job, its an achievement just to place :)

Thanks @ecoinstant, I like your words. =)

Congratulations! (I remember how excited I was the first time I made it onto the list. You will be moving up before you know it.

I finally figured it out...Janton must be a bot, or an Alien... Or an Alienbot. hell, he must be the keyboard of the future

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

I heard that his input device is thought activated

A thought based keyboard! With multi-threading!

Now if you ask him, his broken metal chair and scrappy internet service hold him back, but I see that he is growing his efforts each and every week as well!

hahaha! howdy gentlemen! that's too funny. it is true that my metal folding chair is broken and hurts me in several places but the pain keeps me alert! Also my keyboard sticks, I'm a very slow typist, my internet IS scrappy and I struggle to know what to say. But those are all good things because that means that any of the top ten can beat me! ecoinstant is an amazing, super sharp, quick-witted superstar with a large group of friends so if he decides to go for it that's where my money is. and I will be happy with whoever wins because of the increased engagement!

I am going to bookmark this comment, it has just given me a fantastic idea.

Great Job guys!! I love it when people are surprised on where they are.

Yeah me too. It means to me that they are not focused on reaching a certain score or position, and are just engaging away ๐Ÿ˜

Thank you so much! The league is such a motivator to keep up the interactions. I am always excited to come see the charts every week.
Congrats to everyone just making the list is an achievement.
Special congrats to the people way up there in the green. Those numbers are mind boggling.

Cheers!

Yes the top spots are putting in a great smith of time and effort, it's nice to be able to reward them, thanks to @curie ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

It is so cool to see my name included in the engagement league, even thought I haven't been commenting as much as I would like!

Nice job ๐Ÿ˜

I thinking placeing in the list is a good effort, 300 registered accounts are lower, and who knows how many other accounts not signed up.

YES this is so much fun Thank you and @fullcoverbetting Thanks I am honored

Well done guys! Just missed the score/placing for a prize but landed lucky 25 anyway ๐Ÿ˜

I am alone and enjoying myself do much blogging Thats New chapter in a mums life. Have a manic monday ๐Ÿ˜‰

All hail to the king, the one and only jonboy @janton :D
He is the reason I got to the top ten from being unaware of the league at all by last week, That surely is something. He deserved to top it.
Congratulations to everyone and at the end the other guy who inspired me was @glenalbrethsen Glen! Am going to get you in coming weeks :D

Go for it! A shame much as I like to see @janton at the top each week, a new winner would be cool too!

howdy @abh12345 and thanks so much for another fun and entertaining contest week, thanks for all the work you put in and thanks so much to @curie for the sponsorship, it is so generous and helpful to so many.
this is great, I've been mentoring hananali for weeks and he's coming on strong, wouldn't that be fitting if he beats me!? lol. I wouldn't know whether to congratulate him or me!

I'l want to second @janton here, whoever is behind all this work and behind the sponsorship needs a lot of appreciations and credit.

You got to congratulate your own self for both you and me being in the list, keep monitoring me and i'l make sure i get to the top but stay behind you :D Well we'l see what happens from there on

I don't think I am going to beat @janton that easily or that soon, he's going to be the winner for some more weeks before any one could give him some competition but for now he's the undefeated one, at the top for weeks (y)

haha! hey Glen hananali learned to comment from studying you, I told him to! lol. we created a monster! congratulations hananali for making it into the top ten in such short time!

Good morning, @janton. Yeah, I'm not sure if you should be telling people to study me when they should be studying you. I haven't been in the No. 1 spot for months, and you tend to be able to weather any storm. We've got a few people who have made it into the Top 10 this week in a short period of time. It's a new and ever changing world. :)

yes sir..well he wanted to know how to improve his comments so I told him to study yours because no one comments better than you do. Heck I wish I could comment just half as good as you!

People should be studying both of you if they want to be at top, @janton because of his engagement and the amount of time he gives to Steemit and @glenalbrethsen for the amount of words he types

hahaha a monster who could go back to being a zero without your support and backing, Keep backing me and I'l beat @glenalbrethsen one day :D I don't think he is defeat-able specially with the number of words he writes, both of you are going to be at top for a long time before i get to know all the secrets of writing each comment of 62 words on average, that is surely huge from @glenalberthsen

howdy this fine Tuesday hananali! well, the top people will come and go because it takes too much time to stay at the top for long, people have real work and things to do in the outside world so you will definitely have your chance for the top.

Hey, @hananali.

Well, if you say so. It seems to me you're doing well enough on your own. And as far as catching me goesโ€”Let's go! As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier. :)

That's really nice of you @glenalbrethsen , And as far as catching you you goes, its going to take time with the stats you have been putting all these weeks but its surely going to be fun trying to catch you

As always, thanks for taking the time to put this post together. Have a beautiful Sunday! :)

Thank you @beeyou, i had a good day at the beach. I hope you had a nice weekend too.

Is it possible to make a Japanese version of the table used in this league?

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

I feel you give me a list of accounts, I can produce the list for you. You may need excel or something to import the text file to edit, or I could just produce the table as a list as a markup table for here?

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

Thank you. I will think about it.
I resteemd this article.

I haven't expected to see my name this week! Congratulations to everyone! I wonder if @janton sleeps at all ๐Ÿ˜‚

Surprised yourself did you? :D

Sleep - to win the Engagement League for 8 consecutive weeks? Unlikely!

Yes, I did! I'd love to know what he takes to be able to go 24/7 ๐Ÿ˜ I hope he'll tell us @janton!

Hi Asher. The curation league has helped me so much already. i have been playing around with curation with timings of voting etc. It has made a huge difference and what I was getting in a month I am now getting in a week.

That's great to hear!

Timing of vote is key for curation rewards, difficult to do manually of course :)

These posts are always fun to read. If I'm not already on the master list, I'd like to be. Don't know I'd place, but would be fun to see.

I thought you may already be there but apparently not. Anyway, you are now - welcome!

The new metrics are looking good. I'm definitely a fan of measuring the number of unique accounts we are interacting with.

As always congratulations to the winners and yet another mammoth effort from @janton

thank you @sparkesy43 ! I try.

And blow everyone else on the platform out of the water in doing so. Inspirational stuff mate.

thank you for your kind words but I know this is a temporary position and any of the top ten members can beat me so I'm not letting it go to my head as we say in America! but thank you so much it is much appreciated.

Cheers @sparkesy!

Perhaps the score for this metric needs a slight adjustment but I also think it's a worthwhile addition.

It is always so nice finding initiatives like these. I like the whole engagement aspect. Seeing familiar "faces" is also a good thing. "Hi guys" lol. I would like to be added to the league, thank you. Hopefully, one day, I can make it in top 100 hehe. Keep up the good work guys.

Hi @honeysim, thank you for your kind comments and welcome to the Leagues :)

Thank you my dear and youre most welcome.

Been me up scotty! Get me on that darn list!! Thanks a million .

I will certainly do that, welcome to the Leagues @blanchy :)

Wow I was surprised to see the 1 steem coming in, as I did not think I would end up high enough this week again. Still not running 100% here lol.. Whenever my boyfriend is home, it's affecting my Steemit activities everywhere and I can't function 100% lol.. Then I'm out of my game or something. But congrats to everyone in the list, well done!! And have a good new engagement week uh league!

You are welcome :) I'm always happy to hear that people have distractions, this is healthy!

Wow, that was different! I know that I hadn't been around as much as past weeks, but I felt like I should have been able to get toward the bottom of the Top 10. I thought maybe my name got missed... then I kept scrolling.

It's a different game now, that's for sure. It seems that some people were already doing what needed to be done to stay toward the top, but I'm going to have to change some things if I want to get back up there as I dropped even out of the Top 25. It seems like PS and CR are the two biggest factors, so I'll have to up both of those if I want to raise my position.

Congrats to the winners. @janton won for the 8th week in a row. Why do we even bother to try. We should just given Janton the top prize and not even consider him in the standings. Then we'd actually have some variety in the standings. Heh. Good job!

@glenalbrethsen, the rules have changed, but you still did really well. It looks like PS is going to be your key to victory, so go find 1,000 people to talk to. ;) That CL was insane and I figured would definitely be enough to win, but when the game changes, there's nothing you can do about that other than adapt. Good luck.

@lynncoyle1 great job hanging in there, even on a slower week for you. Well done!

@abh12345 thanks as always for encouraging us to get out there and engage!

Hey!

Thanks for the feedback on the 'PS'.

A few things.

The scoring may not be right for this new metric, but a felt that the placing should were mainly based on how much text was produced. While this is clearly important and mostly the case still, I felt that it would be good to reward those opening their circle of friends out. The other advantage here is that scores are less related to 'time available to steem'.

I'd like some more feedback on the new metric, I may have some below but I'm responding in order of comment.

Thanks for your input thus far ๐Ÿ˜Š

I don't know if it's feedback. I was trying to keep it more to personal observational status. As in, "I scored here" as opposed to "this new system is bad." It's not bad or good, it's just different in a way that didn't work as favorably for me. Doesn't mean it's not a better (or worse) representation of engagement. It's just different.

It might be less related to "time available to steem." I'm not sure. I think that those who spend more time are still going to get higher scores. There isn't really a way to calculate "score per minute." ;)

What I'm trying to say is that I don't have any recommendations on what I think you should change (or not change). Just a few observations. Thanks again for helping people get a feel for how they did. :)

I'll take anything words regarding them the EL as feedback, and spend plenty of time thinking about what do next.

You are probably the standout case where the new metric hasn't worked in an accounts favor and engagement style. I've commented to crypto-econom1st with the reasons behind the metric, but perhaps there is a weight adjustment to be made.

It's all good, man. I was a bit disappointed not to get a prize, but you don't owe me a thing and it's not owed to me by "the universe" either. I just do the best I can and if it works out, great. If not, then I still got to talk with some cool people.

Don't stress too much about getting the formula right. It's hard to quantify it through finite data points that only measure specific things. I think you're doing a great job! Thanks for taking the time to run it. :)

Thanks @themanwithnoname; I have a feeling next week will be slower still for me. It is a different game here now :)

Yeah, it was a bit disheartening to not place in the top 25 after having placed in the top 10 consistently with that effort. We'll see how much I end up doing. I was getting burned out, at least partially to compete in the contest. I may need to take another break. Enjoy your time off. If you can't find me on Steemit, hit me up on Discord. Give Brian my best! :)

I can imagine it was! Take a break; it's a good thing to do. Brian just went to bed, so I'm getting some done here now, but I'll pass along your message tomorrow. And no worries, I'll stay in touch :)

thank you sir @themanwithnoname for the heartfelt congratulations! Looking at some of these numbers though, any of the top 5 could win with a little more time spent on it so who knows what will happen. Glen is always right there, now we have veryspider who talked to more people than I even KNOW, the amazing ecoinstant was traveling all week and too busy doing other things and he came in 4th? He has a large group to engage with and must be a very fast typist with good internet. Of course Lynn can jump up in levels if she has the time, look at cicisaja coming up strong and bengy and hananali. Hananali works a full time job for cryin out loud and look at him rocket up into the top ten, maybe I've been doing too good of a job mentoring him! lol. Plus that scary noname guy can come back anytime if we could get him out of the coin shop.

You did really well. I don't know how you keep increasing your numbers.

Something about what I'm doing isn't working well in the new system. The week I had would have been top 10 (I believe) based on how it's been in weeks past. I'll need to change something if I want a higher place.

Glen will always be a good competitor. He's active, and he likes to chat with people.

I haven't met veryspider, but it seems like they have a wide network.

That' crazy that ecoinstant got that score while traveling. Amazing.

I think Lynn is going to be stepping back a bit for now, but I think sooner or later she'll be back with a vengeance.

Bengy is a competitor, but he got most of his points by being on multiple voting trails and dropping 1% votes on many people. He is doing something right for the new formula, but I think he's got to up his CL. Still, watch out for him. :)

I haven't been a big fan of hananali. I looked at a few of his early articles and found that they were blatantly plagiarized. Someone even reported him to steemcleaners and he got flagged. Rather than repent, he flagged the steemcleaners' comment. Ha ha. I thought about trying to mentor him and tell him that he won't get far in the long-term by plagiarizing, but I don't have the energy for it. I did check back and see that he had started writing some personal stuff that wasn't taken from someone else's work, but I'm not in a place where I want to be figuring out if his work is copied or not. I'd rather just follow real people at this point.

Ha ha, I don't know that I spend that much time in the coin shop. I was there a while the last time because I had to wait for the people in line. I still had a good time and enjoyed getting to look at all they had to sell. One day I'm going to go in there and buy everything they have! That would make for a great post! :D :D :D

well sir, you will be back up in the top ten if you want to be, I'm sure you and Glen will figure the newer metrics out, I don't understand any of it or plan anything, I just try to talk to as many people as I can and also try to vote as many as I can on a low sp power.
after seeing veryspiders PS numbers I need to meet more people I guess!
Maybe I WILL pick it up in pace this week, we'll see. dang one comment away from 1200, that would have been nice.

I think Hananali has improved a great deal.
but we'll see, you never know what's going to happen the next week.
thank you sir, it's a great pleasure to visit with you all week.

It's going to be a little while before I hit top 10 again, I think. I'm going to be less involved for the next few weeks. Real life stuff that I'll be tending too. I'll still be around though.

Yeah, PS ended up being really highly weighted. Those who were already talking to a lot of different people did well with the new system.

I'm glad to hear that Hananali has gotten better. There are so many spammers and scammers on here already that I was disappointed to see him doing the same thing. I was going to comment to him, but it's often easier just to ignore than to try to correct. If someone gets angry, they can make things more difficult, so I have switched more to just letting them do what they want and then fail on their own if they don't change.

Yeah, it was fun to chat with you as well. I hope you have a great week!

howdy today Blondie! well sir, I will be spending less time on here now and then also, especially the way the competition has gotten on the League. If it gets to where people have to spend 70 hours a week just to make it to the top 5 then few can do that consistently and it would also start to feel like work! yuck who needs that?
thank you sir, it's always a pleasure to talk to you!

Yeah, it was starting to feel like work, and getting bumped so far down with the new algorithm has actually given me some freedom to not care how I rank. I'm just going to have fun and do what I want. I don't care enough about 1-3 Steem that I'm going to burn myself out over it.

Enjoy your day!

hey @themanwithnonameโ€”well, thanks for key to victory. I'm not sure how it's possible to talk to 1,000 different people in a week, but it's definitely something to shoot for, I guess. One thing is for certain. As you said, change is needed to stay in the Top 10, and that's probably a good thing to some extent. Obviously depends on the change, and for the time being, the jury may still be out on at that one.

We'll see how things go. :)

Awesome job, @abh12345! Thank you for all the effort you put into keeping track of all the stats. I am so happy to see all the engagement happening here. It means we are growing!

Thank you @cecicastor

Everyone's account is growing daily. Just sticking around will do that, but of course it is more fun if one engages too๐Ÿ˜Š

Already the third time after my holiday that I am allowed to sponsor the lucky25. This week we do have a first time winner with @brittandjosie. Always great to be able to hand it out to another member, also great that again it is somebody from the Benelux :)
Enjoy the SBI share!

@abh12345 Great what you have done with adding the different number of engagement partners! This will give the ones an edge who are communicating with lots of different Steemians!
@janton the question was if you could break 60K, now the game plan has changed the question is if you can break 100K! But another great week for you!
Also lots of new names within the top 10, which is always nice to see!
Keep it going all!

Cheers,
Peter

howdy sir fullcoverbetting! well sir, I think I'm close to being maxed out but with this field I think anyone in the top 5 could win next week. But whoever does will certainly deserve it and if I lose it will be to an excellent Steemian who is pushing engagement to new levels! thank you sir!

Hey, @fullcoverbetting. Seems like we're always reaching out over the Lucky Number 25, but good job sponsoring it again, anyway. :) how's life in general in your part of the STEEM land? Or the outside world for that matter.

Thank you very much for your lucky 25 sponsorship Peter!

Thanks for the "tip" Asher, and congratulations to The Amazing @janton! At this rate he's going to reach 50,000 posts in just a year and that would make him the posting-est HUMAN on the site... and that's a bit mind blowing, right there...

So, a "secret" new field, huh? Well, the metric is secret, anyway... number 1 and 2 offer an interesting contrast; @janton having very long "conversations" with fewer people; @veryspider getting close to the same points total by visiting lots of different people. Two different strategies... no idea what it will do for participation. I seem to pretty much end up in about the same spot every week... but I take pride in my "zero self-votes" record!

So is your list of league participants growing? Well, of course it's growing, but are you adding significant numbers, or just a handful a week?

The reason I am asking is that this is such a great initiative it could really serve a greater slice of Steemit as a retention/engagement device. So I was thinking about a special challenge for the top 100 to each create a post on their accounts for "How @abh12345's Curation and Engagement Leagues Changed my Steemit Experience" also serving as a device to encourage more people from their followers to join the leagues and thus grow the base.

The gamification of the Steemit experience definitely works as a retention device, AND it encourages people to be more active. Which also matters. Just rolling that idea around in my head. Maybe I'm overly optimistic here, but even 30-40 already active Steemians making a post about their experience might add 100-200 new people to the leagues. Word of mouth. It's how communities are built. And if everybody was willing to chip in 1 or 2 Steem, there could be a pretty nice prize fund to distribute. Sure, more work for you, but you could (a) gain some engaging followers and (b) pick up some votes for the @steemcommunity witness.

Just thinking out loud, for the moment...

I've noticed you in a similar position each week - consistency is good!

So is your list of league participants growing? Well, of course it's growing, but are you adding significant numbers, or just a handful a week?

I'm adding around 5 or so each week, and I think (without promoting the post with bots) that's pretty good in the current environment.

That sounds like a grand idea :D A few people have written on the subject of the Leagues in the past which was really good of them, but there hasn't been a focused drive like your suggestion. I'm wondering if it might be better to wait until the hoards return - I'll likely have more funds to issue as prizes then too.

Thanks for the suggestion, and well done on your prize last week!

It's great this league, can a French minnow join you for fun?

Yes you certainly can! Added :)

This post was shared in the Curation Collective Discord community for curators, and upvoted and resteemed by the @c-squared community account after manual review.

Thank you very much c-squared - I'm very grateful for your support!

Interesting it seems the PS column may have helped some of the Cยฒ Comments Contest participants place higher in your league this week :)

Indeed :)

I think i'll reduce the score for this new metric a little, but I do think it's one that adds value to the League.

Cheers Carl!

and another twist in the game - well, since I am mostly talking to the freewriters, the variety is not so great for me...

ahh yes, that could be a 'problem'. I'll be reducing the score for this metric this week.

I would like to join, please!

Great, you are on the list for today's post!

That's exciting! Thanks!

This is a great initiative! As I am a competitive person, I would definitely like to participate. Anything else I need to do other than posting here? Look forward to continue seeing this amount of engagement across the ecosystem! Thanks!

Yes! I know exactly how you feel, and the best part is that each week you can come here and see how you are working your way up the list! It is very situational and circumstantial, but with practice, timing and dedication, anyone can take home a prize!

Next week you're in the table. I gave you a little upvote as encouragement to win the league next week ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜œ

Nothing else to do, I've added you to the list and the post will be out later today :)

Thanks for the post, abh12345.

This bot runs through hundreds of posts per day selecting a small percentage of posts that have exceptional positivity.

Your post has been selected and upvoted because it has a high concentration of positive words that give feel-good vibes. Thank you for creating content that focuses on the bright side.

Your post has also been entered to be included in a daily roundup of positive posts. Please comment 'yes' or 'no' if you feel that my bot is correct in its judgement of this post. Your comments will be used to determine if this article belongs in the curated list. Over time, your feedback will be used to improve the judgement of this bot

yes

Oh no, not another bot! / Interesting, I've wondered about searching comments for positive words and scoring based on that before.

I have played a bit with this on IBM's watson, but wasn't really impressed with what that told me. Often the difference between a slightly positive and a slightly negative was one word in a whole article. I suppose across the entire ecosystem of steem, any outliers on the positive or negative sides could give you some information about the post. But what good is that information, if you still don't know what its about?

I think this is an incredibly positive post for example, because giving away prizes is wonderful!

I do tend to use 'congratulations', 'well done', and 'thank you' a fair bit :)

If i get chance, I'll go see what other posts the bot has chosen to appear upon.

By the way, and I haven't seen anybody really comment on this yet, congratulations, both for consistently being in the top of the pack on engagement, and for 'crossing off' yourself from the list! It must be a lot of work to run this contest, and I appreciate what you do, every week!

Congratulations to the winners, great job you make friend

Thank you very much @elider11, I miss happy that the Leagues are appreciated.

Congratulation to all the winners.

And I will say that I am leaving the leagues.

Because I think that for my account growth is better if I allow vote selling.

I will start selling my votes to smartsteem.

In the future I might join back, when I have grown.

Well it doesn't mean you have to leave either league, but if you wish to that is fine. Good luck!

ย 6 years agoย (edited)ย

But I tought vote selling is against league rules.

Obviously I don't want to leave.

No not at all. Programmed voting for the curation league (aside from steemvoter etc) I'd like to not have but you can sell you vote and be a part of both ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

ok cool :)

@webcoop you should join this, you'll easily get to the top 10 I'm sure. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

What a perfect way to tally up engagement! Congrats to everyone on the list!

@abh12345 has set 5.000 SBD bounty on this post! logo_for-light-bg_1000.png
What is a bounty exactly?

A bounty is money sent to a post to be distributed to the users commenting on it. It provides a way to reward users directly and works in addition to the steem/sbd they receive from the blockchain. It works independently of SteemPower.

You create a bounty by sending any amount of sbd/steem to @steem-bounty together with a post-url in the memo.

How can I earn a bounty Users are then competing for the bounty by writing their answers to the post in comments that will achieve upvotes from the community and especially the bounty creator. The money of the bounty gets distributed to all top level comments of the post at the same time when the post is paid out (7 Days after it was written). How much everyone gets depends on the votes the comments received. The sender of the bounties votes are weighted higher so that she decideds where 80% of the bounty money goes and all other votes determine the rest.

@steem-bounty does all of this for you automatically. You can use this service to automatically pay out a challenge, ask a hard question or simply to reward the people that interact with you.

Read more about how it works, even in different languages here.
