Anbernic RG 35xx is a small gadget that emulates games from the NES, SNES, PSX, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, slot machines and many other hardware we played in the 1990s and early 2000s. This is a real sentimental journey for all boomers :)
Dlaczego konsola cieszy się tak dużą popularnością? Bo jest tania i dobra. Ale po co mi ten sprzęt, skoro mój Steam Deck również emuluje wyżej wymienione konsole i jeszcze więcej? Po pierwsze Ambernic mieści się w kieszeni i mogę zabrać go ze sobą wszędzie. Po drugie, na Steam decku widać okropne piksele przy grach z game boya. Po trzecie, Ambernic ma duszęgame boya. To porót do lat 90, za niecałe 200 zł (46 USD).
Why is it so popular? Because it is cheap and good. But why do I need this hardware when my Steam Deck also emulates the aforementioned consoles and more? First of all, Ambernic fits in my pocket and I can take it with me anywhere. Second, the Steam Deck shows terrible pixelation with old GBA games. Third, the Ambernic has the soul of a game boy. It's a real throwback to the 90s, for less than £200 ($46).
Największym atutem konsoli (obok kieszonkowych rozmiarów) jest ekran o wysokiej jasności. Na załączonych fotkach jasność jest ustawiona na 3 (w przypadku Contry na 4) w 5-stopniowej skali. Na tym elemencie akurat twórcy nie oszczędzali, lecz kompromisów poszukali gdziei ndziej.
Posiadacze dużych dłoni muszą się trochę przyzwyczaić do urządzenia, a niektóre przyciski (głównie te z tyłu konsoli, z których za często nie korzystamy) są dosyć głośne. Poza tym brakuje analogów, ale przypominam, że to bardzo tani sprzęt.
The biggest asset of the console (besides its pocket size) is a screen with high brightness. In the attached photos, the brightness is set to 3 (in the case of the Contra to 4) on a 5-point scale. On this element the developers did not spare, but they looked for compromises somewhere else. Owners of large hands have to get used to the device a bit, and some buttons (mainly those on the back of the console, which we don't use too often) are quite noisy. Also, the analogs are missing, but I remind you that this is a very cheap piece of equipment.
Ponadto konsola jest dość ergonomiczna, lecz wymaga chwili przyzwyczajenia. Producent nie dodał do zestawu ładowarki, ani nawet kabla, ale wchodzi tu USB-C, który pewnie każdy ma w domu. Co fajne, w pudełku znalazłem szkło hartowane na ekran.
In addition, the hardware is quite ergonomic, but takes a moment to get used to. The manufacturer did not add a charger or even a cable to the set, but here comes USB-C, which probably everyone has at home. What's cool, in the box I found a tempered glass for the screen.
W kwestii technicznej, muszę wspomnieć o dosyć słabym głośniku, choć sprzęt pozwala na podłączenie słuchawek. Natomiast na plus – bateria, która wystarczy na jakieś 5 godzin grania. Co ciekawe, konsola ma bluetooth i można do niej podłączyć pada. Ale po co tu pad? Bo Anbernic ma też łączność HDMI, więc możemy z niej zrobić stacjonarny sprzęt i bawić się przed dużym ekranem.
On the technical side, I must mention a rather weak speaker, although the hardware allows you to connect headphones. However, on the plus side - the battery, which is enough for about 5 hours of playing. Interestingly, the console has bluetooth and you can connect a pad to it. Pointless? But why a pad here? Because Anbernic also has HDMI connectivity, so we can make it a stationary device and play in front of the big screen.
Czas na to, co boomerzy lubią najbardziej, czyli stare gry. Sprzęt idealnie odpala gry z konsol do PlayStation One włącznie. Chociaż w tym ostatnim przypadku jedynie nieliczne tytuły gubią klatki. Ale nie miałem żadnych problemów z ukochanym Tekkenem 3, Herculesem, GTA2 czy FInal Fantasy 7, czy Gran Turismo. Nawet wyścigi działają tu znakomicie i są dobrze zoptymalizowane.
Masę czasu w dzieciństwie spędziłem na grach Pokemon. I na tym sprzęcie gra się w nie idealnie. Na razie bawię się przy wersji Fire Red, ale na pewno przetestuję wszystkie. To po prostu taki wypasiony game boy z dużo lepszym ekranem.
It's time to do what boomers like best - old games. The hardware perfectly fires games from consoles up to and including PlayStation One. Although in the latter case only a few titles lose frames. But I had no problems with my beloved Tekken 3, Hercules, GTA2 or FInal Fantasy 7, or Gran Turismo. Even the races here work great and are well optimized.
I spent a mass of time as a child playing Pokemon. And they play perfectly on this hardware. For now I'm having fun with the Fire Red version, but I'll definitely test them all. It's just such a gutsy game boy with a much better screen.
I na koniec (ale o tym nikomu nie mówcie ;) pozostaje kwestia licencji. Otóż wyobraźcie sobie, że konsola przychodzi do nas z Chin, z masą zainstalowanych gier. Jak to możliwe? No cóż, Chińczycy niczym się nie przejmują i wysyłają sprzęty z ROM-ami na cały świat. W Unii Europejskiej – nie do pomyślenia. Jeśli macie, oryginalne gry w pudełkach, macie prawo odpalać ich kopie zapasowe, a jeśli nie, i tak się nikt nie dowie :)
A całkiem serio, warto zwrócić uwagę, że niektóre produkcje są niezwykle trudno dostępne lub osiągają horrendalne ceny. Ale to już temat na inny artykuł. Tak czy siak, jeśli lubicie stare gry, ta konsola to absolutny must have. Pamiętajcie, że cena 200 zł dotyczy wysyłki z Chin (ok. kilkunastu dni). Na Allegro znajdziecie sprzęt z polskiej dystrybucji, ale trochę droższy.
And finally (but don't tell anyone about it ;) there is the question of licensing. Well, imagine that the console comes to us from China, with a mass of installed games. How is that possible? Well, the Chinese don't care about anything and send hardware with ROMs all over the world. In the European Union - unthinkable. If you have, original games in boxes, you have the right to fire up their backups, and if not, no one will know anyway :)
And quite seriously, it is worth noting that some productions are extremely difficult to access or reach horrendous prices. But that's a topic for another article. Anyway, if you like old games, this console is an absolute must have. Remember that the price of PLN 200 applies to shipping from China. On Allegro (polish marketplace) you can find hardware from Polish distribution, but a little more expensive.
