I didn’t worry about it when I visited for a few months last year, but the school massacres are a worry and I would be looking at school security if I was to send my kids to school in the USA.
It’s an interesting debate and I have had my eyes opened a little to why people feel so strongly about their rights to be armed.

Remember that statistically schools are incredibly safe and the chances of being shot to death at one are very very low. It's like worrying about lighting or sharks.
You are far more likely to have your children killed while driving them to school. Your children are far more likely to be killed participating in sports. Sports besides turkey hunting, youth turkey hunting, with shotguns, is statistically the safest youth sport. Here in my state teachers are allowed to carry with permission and we have not had any school shootings.
