Only in the strictest sense of now that you have a gun you might use it on yourself vs not having a gun so you couldn't use it on yourself.
Legal Defensive Gun Uses happen 2 million to 3 million times per year vs somewhere around 20,000 people unlawfully killed by guns.
On average a typical American home will be broken into or attempted to be broken into within your lifetime of being in that house.
Closer to 10,000 gun homicides.
Or a kid gets it, or a robber steals it from my house and uses it in another crime, or someone accidentally shoots themselves....
ok. show me the stats you looked up on that.
Your stats of that vs my stats of 2 to 3 million legal defensive gun uses per year.
Which saves more live. Please link me the stats when you find it.
If I am in an locked room with one other person and neither of us has a gun, no one will be shot by a gun. If I am in a room with one other person and there is a gun the likely hood of me being shot increases. No gun it is impossible for me to be shot. I will not be contributing to the proliferation of weapons in this country.
in your FAUX room locked with a person who wants you dead you would rather be clubbed , stabbed or strangled? because two people in a room with love in their hearts have 0% chance of killing each other because they just wont do it. But in your make believe room i would think a gun would be the best way to go...
And you have every right to have that opinion or feeling on the matter.
But again, I am asking you what are the stats of people stealing a gun and using it to kill someone/a child finding it and killing someone vs the 2 to 3 million legal defensive gun uses per year.
What are your sources that helped you form this opinion, do you have any?
sounds like she is basing it on the discredited study that used the 1994 data set that includes gang members as "gun owners". And of course in 1994 CCW was only legal in a handful of states, unlike all 50 now.
Now lets lock you in a room with a larger man who wishes to do you harm, would you be better off with or without the gun?
The legalities around gun usage differ across the world dramatically. In Australia, if you use a gun to kill an unarmed intruder into your household, you would be charged with murder or manslaughter.
It is all about the culture that is developed in a country. Australia relishes from strict gun laws as we have never had a gun culture in this country. We don't miss our guns, or feel that unsafe in our houses that we feel the need to be armed in our own homes.
Good information. It does vary here as well on a state by state basis. Some states require you to try to run away from someone breaking into your house before being able to shoot them, other states allow you to fire if someone breaks in(without having to try to run away and hide). There are a lot of different laws about self defense here that are different and I am sure it is different elsewhere as well.
In the USA there is a drug epidemic where people breaking in could be on drugs or looking for drug money, and in their addicted state they are very dangerous. It stems from over perscription(and the extra pills are sold on the street), illegal drugs made from buying household items and creating drugs, and from drugs coming across the border at an alarming rate.
Our nation is filled with fat and obese people, somewhere around 62% of our nation is fat(overweight) or obese in medical terms. So we aren't experiencing any kind of epidemic of people breaking into houses for hunger as we have many programs for free food and what not, it is mostly people looking to get drug money who break in and they are pretty dangerous.
I myself have been in the vicinity of dangerous stuff happening to me(someone trying to break in to my place) and have also witnessed someone pull a gun on someone else for a drug related matter at 3 am out near my place. We live in a pretty good neighborhood too. But there is just too many drugs and too much profit making/selling the drugs that creates all these addicts who have to steal to support their habits(bcause the habit is expensive).
Not sure how much of that Austrailia is going through. In the USA it is really bad though.
Feel free not to have one. Other people will see that there are fewer than 500 fatal accidents annually and accept that risk and make sure they are careful.
