Sure, the animals in the explosion are would be dead. But with the plastic gone the negative effects of the granulate ending up in animals would be gone too and the areas could be repopulated with healthy specimen of the animals from other places. Nature tends to fix the underpopulation problem quite fast.

I understand where you're coming from, I'm intrigued, would it solve the problem of microscopic plastic? I can see how to might erradicat the visible pieced however there is so much plastic in the sea which we cant even see
