These bids are getting more insane all the time for the username 'eos'. Why would someone bid 50,000 EOS for a username? That is crazy!!!
A week ago it the bids were at 2,500 EOS.
You can keep an eye on the bidding here. These are all for usernames under 12 characters and there will only be 1 of them won each day awarded to the top bidder.

Personally I don't think the way the bidding is done makes any sense but hopefully it will increase the value of my custom wallet usernames that are 12 characters. I'm going to wait until a lot more people have a chance to snag up usernames so that stuff that is human readable is a lot harder to get and then I'm going to sell some of them.
Can anyone come up with a plausible reason why these usernames are being bid up this high? I mean that is insane. It's like, "Instead of buying this Ferrari I think I will just buy an EOS username!"

Thank you for reading my post and please consider following me @brianphobos
Because it is not just a username but a domain. You can sell brianphobos.eos etc if you win the eos name auction. Also, Dan recommended today on BP call that the auction be changed to every 10mins instead of 1 per day.
If i got it right, the increase to 10mins per accounts is only for accounts between 6 and 11 characters long, the domain style names shorter, would still be limited to 1/day.
Awwww, I didn't realize that there could be sub domains under it essentially. That makes a lot more sense now. Still seems crazy expensive.
That would make sense to have 1 every 10 minutes or at least 1 every hour.
Now it is starting to look like the value is not in an account but the ram it takes to open a new account. At least for non premium names.
Funny. Makes VIP sound cheap :-)
Hahha, Yeah. It is nuts.
haha... you mean it's peanuts for VIP.
It all makes sense if you replace username with domain name.
How much would .com or .net internet domains be worth if auctioned? Many billions..
Buyer of eos domain name will likely be able to make his investment back or sell it later to another account. It is a unique and precious resource on this blockchain.
There will probably be a secondary market in account/domain names soon.
That is one of the reasons I registered so many of the 12 character ones but still it is hard for me to phathom exactly how it will play out and if people will want to get pizza.com and all that kind of stuff and if it will ever be a place they can really go to vs a wallet, a username on a social media platform built on top of EOS.....etc
.com EOS domain was just sold for 150,000 EOS (3 times the price of .eos).
:)
That is super crazy! But makes sense in some respects.
That’s crazy! Surely that money would be better invested in buying more EOS!!
That is what I would think as well. Because I was even doing that cost analysis when making the usernames I registered that were 12 characters. I wouldn't want to spend 1 EOS on a username simply from the fact that EOS might be worth $1000 some day so it would be like paying $1,000 for a username and if I couldn't sell it for more it sort of wouldn't make sense.
Maybe it’s just people who have enough EOS for tons of Ferrari’s that are bidding
yeah... that's insane. Totally insane... By the way, how can I get my own name on EOS ? :)
This guy shows a web tool to do it but I did it through the command line. I haven't used Scatter or anything yet to connect to any 3rd party tools.
