A beautiful Saturday morning here in southern Wisconsin!
I have an old metal bucket that I use to carry birdseed out to fill the bird feeder.
I always try to remember to take along a few peanuts in a jar for the squirrels, and I sprinkle some sunflower seeds on the ground for the chipmunks.
This guy likes peanuts, too, and decided to help himself!
He really needs two peanuts to balance out the load!

These guys can smell peanuts and sunflower seeds from across the yard! They wouldn't let you get away with one still in your pocket!

I don't think he knew how silly he looked! I have seen them fit 3 peanuts in their mouths before they run off to stash them in their food storage hole.
Lol - All you need are a couple flashes and a black bucket, and you could do a studio photo shoot of the little guy! Cute photos, especially the last one. Literally a cheeky fella!
As long as I had seeds and peanuts they wouldn't mind posing for photos!

A friend and her teenage daughter were over last night and they sat out on the steps 'playing' with chipmunks for hours! They are fun little guys!

When they have babies they seem to disappear underground for a month or more, so maybe they need food stashes all year round. There doesn't seem to be many studies done on chipmunk behavior, and the conclusions of the few studies we have found do not seem to reflect the behavior we observe in our chipmunk 'herds'!

My daughter has spent a lot of time getting them to trust people. She had no idea they would be as tame as they are.

My daughter was just telling me about a Facebook group for people who keep chipmunks in cages as pets. I prefer mine running wild and free in the woods, but it seems that there are some places in the world where they are sold in pet stores. I had no idea!
I hate anything locked up in a cage just so cruel i would have him or her running around the house like it should be :)
They are little woodland creatures and should be out playing in the woods. Mine are awfully tame, but they come and go as they please. As much as you love animals, I know that any pet you have would get the very best care.
