Yesterday @soyrosa asked me what I'm going to do moving forward.
One of the things I'm going to do is re-evaluate everything about this blockchain.
The reason I feel I can do this now is because I'm not afraid anymore.
This blockchain is either going to make it and succeed big time or it's going to shit.
There is no middle ground.
I have simply been walking around with Rose-tinted glasses for too long spouting the gospel of SMT's based on promises.
I had a huge personal reality check.
I am done with hearing what's going to come out, how great things and people are and all that.
I'm going to judge on what people do right now and their actions and results to improve this chain when they happen, not before.
Starting with Steem inc.
My confidence in them is at rock bottom. It will have to be rebuild from scratch.
Yesterday a first attempt to restore the confidence was made when they released this post:

Right now it's just talk. It can't be evaluated until it's implemented. When it works and does as advertised. Fantastic, a little confidence restored. And I'm hoping to see a lot more of that.
Other things I'm going to evaluate in upcoming weeks/months is witnesses. Who really does what. Who is an asset to the blockchain, who is a taker and who deserves to be higher on the list.

Also might I add that your proposed "witness evaluation" is absolute genius. So many of us don't actually know of what many of them bring to the table for "our" blockchain. Calling certain individuals out for not pulling their weight for us all, especially at a time like this, is music to my ears.

You brought up a very good point @exyle about not being afraid to speak your mind. A lot of people are afraid to step on someone else's toes in fear of a whale or someone powerful getting revenge. As a result, people become mellow and don't want to voice their thoughts completely out of fear.
People need to step up; especially at a time like this. If we don't see good results, people should be held accountable and called out. I urge everyone to do the best they can to not get caught up in hope and circlejerking. Instead, we as a community need to get together and confront those that don't mean what they say or say what they mean. This could be Steemit Inc., certain witnesses, other content creators, etc.
This is an opportunity for us that want steem to succeed to get stronger, while at the same time weed out the freeloaders.

Fair enough. I was also uninspired by the live chat, and it's pretty disappointing that SMT is likely to be majorly delayed.
Probably the most important 6 months/year is in front of us now.

You know @exyle, it might seem that you are setting yourself up for conflict, for political suicide so to speak, but it might be the opposite. In other words, you speaking your mind like this shows to the community you care, and thus wins you social leverage.

Great approach as execution is so difficult when moral is low which is what I can imagine is happening at Steemit Inc. This is the opportunity we have to truly decentralize the ecosystem and that begins with witnesses. I still have a good number of votes available as I review them frequently and adjust. Look forward to finding new witnesses that can add value to the community!

I'm glad you mentioned @good-karma He is the most legit witness and has done an unbelievable amount for this blockchain.
After over two years here I'm basically done and my main focus is to get my investment out which is interesting considering I have powered up another 9,000 SP in the last month or so. I will never be able to get my entire investment out of here since I devalued my time trying to build a foundation for the future.
The witness situation is a complete joke and Steemit INC squandered an incredible head start. It is sad because despite issues we kept fighting for this blockchain and this community.
The great thing that came from this blockchain are the friends and contracts we made. We can reunite on whatever blockchain can deliver.

YES, I like it @exyle, for me it has always been important to get a better grasp on what witnesses especially are doing and I have always wanted that to be more transparent / easy to find out in some way. I trust you to have a lot of insights and information that will help me learn a lot about the things that really matter. Ok, in my view, the crypto market is in a downtrend. Bitcoin is the anchor. Until bitcoin community doesn't solve the scalability issue the price of the BTC will be under pressure. We may see prices lower than the current one at the level $4000. If Bitcoin continues to fall, the other cryptocurrencies and tokens will do the same. (Most of them). So, we the Steemians have to understand that the price of STEEM can even get lower than the current price of 0,34 $.
Of course a possible further price drop of STEEM may hurt the business of Steemit, Inc. The easiest way for a company in crisis to TRY to survive is to lay off employees. That's what last week Ned Scott said Steemit, Inc is going to do. They don't have another option. It's pitty, but it is true. All companies do the same during financial crises. Yes, we don't know if Steemit, Inc. will survive.. I cross my fingers for them, but, of course, we need diversification. So, we need other alternatives. That's why I've voted for @good-karma . Because of eSteem Surfer. Although I don't use it. Also I've voted for Partiko. I hope they can be alternative to Steemit, Inc. as well.
We have to understand, that crypto is in a downtrend. We will face much more difficult times. All we, the Steemians, have to find solution together how to strengthen our system and help it survive the downtrend.
I am waiting for your next post/video in which you are going to comment on the witnesses. I want to vote for a witnesses that have good ideas and know how to implement it in order to help Steem ecosystem survive.
I am a witness with a developer group called @blockbrothers. We are currently in spot #38. We made Steemify and I'm personally heavily invested in the blockchain with my time and own money. I want this thing to succeed and am fighting for it.
You are right about the markets. This downtrend could last for another long time. That's why it's so critical to not rely on STEEM only as a revenue model for a business. It needs to change.
Steem is a blockchain that through its communities should be able to attract outside revenue. There is currently only 1 app on the chain that can do that. Steem Monsters. We need more of those.
@exyle, as a developer, could you tell me which frontend/or apps can be consider as a perfect or close at least close substitutes for Steemit? eSteem Surfer? Partiko? What else?

You are what you do, not what you say. Good realization to have exyle. Always observe the actions of people, talk is cheap. The mindset of a successful person is the ability to take action and not talk. Everyday I get people telling me all sorts of ideas for videos they want to make, all I say is, "cool, make it." The live streams have been interesting. Ned looks like a creative type. I'm sure he has some great ideas and he should work on them but he needs a good numbers person, technical people and someone that can sort out the sound on those live streams.
As much as my confidence in Steemit Inc. has been knocked, there's enough other good projects that are using the Steem blockchain to keep me interested.

Yes, let's discus what we can do to make Steem survive by having a realistic look at what it is, and how it fits in with real world economics.
Conventional markets have been getting pummeled and the net effect on Steem is that there simply is less money to go around as people are also losing their assets in conventional investments. Do not expect that money, what's left of it, to migrate to crypto currency.
Could all this turn around? Yes, but it isn't likely.

Given all the enthusiasm I saw at SteemFest3… I have more optimism about the longevity and sustainability of this blockchain & in the Steem community…. However, I appreciate your frustration... perhaps because… I feel that there is a fair bit of unnecessary fear being sewn among newer Steemians and community members. Crypto currency is… In my limited understanding… Inherently volatile… In fact, I would argue that this is one of the things that makes it so exciting to many… It’s a little bit like a daily thrill ride! And, it is this same characteristic that makes it so frightening to the establishment…

Life presents you always new lessons along the way and provides opportunities to grow and build your own development. The moral of Steemit Inc is to remove them from the equation, and never believe of what they promise like a politician for a vote.
What that hurt me the most is the SMT that we might never see to happen!
The way I see the future of Steem blockchain is to create a consortium of DAPPS and witnesses that work together. Bring novelty ideas and rewards them for the contribution and grow this blockchain.

Wow, I'm looking forward to reading your conclusions. I'm pretty new here but this blockchain is the first one I'm actually using. One advantage is having human-friendly wallet addresses, that helps so much. I also have been using "Steem-JS" lib to interact with the blockchain programmatically: this is very well done and easy to get results fast.
Any estimation on the make it or break it percentages? Literal 50/50?

Would welcome some objective evaluations about witnesses and what they do. Stakeholders like myself - on the margins and without technical expertise - need these kinds of insights.
I appreciate your frustration and anger yesterday, but a war chest would only have delayed the inevitable. There were structural problems within Steemit Inc and between Steemit Inc and the other stakeholders invested here, and the financial pressures have forced these into the open where people are liberated and there can be a dialogue.
