Here's a few red breasted mergancers for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100
Here's a female mergancer flapping her wings after diving for fish in the Chicago river.
They come around when it gets cold here in Chicago. They can be found anywhere there is fish and an unfrozen river.
Here she is taking a nap with a nosey photographer bugging her.
So far I haven't been able to get any shots of the more colorful males this year. The females seem a bit less shy.
A water taxi just rode by disturbing the water on this shot.
Here's a male that I caught a shot of last year.
Another two I got last year.
The males have quite a bit more color and their head feathers are irridescent.
Here's a bonus goldfinch getting a bit drafty from the wind.
Here's a bonus guinea hen begging for food at the zoo happy #featheredfriday

Beautiful photos of thus birds in the water 😍
Its always nice to see them coming around for the winter. Its hilarious to see them catching and fighting over fish. They chase eachother around trying to steal fish, the poor guy with the fish can't eat them fast enough.

All beautiful, but I love the finch the best!

The goldfinches are my favorite. I actually raised one that fell out of a nest a few years ago.

Fabulous photos! I love the mergansers with the fancy hair styles! You have captured them beautifully. And it's great to see a brightly colored finch. They are so drab right now. Great shot of the guinea hen, it is definitely used to handouts! !tip
They swarm you at the brookfield zoo. They prefer human food.

That shot of the finch is amazing!
Fortunately he sat still long enough for a shot. Maybe the strong wind helped keep him on the branch longer than usual.

That's always my problem with smaller birds... they move around too quickly for me to focus!
Yeah especially the ruby crowned kinglets, i see them often but its impossible to get a clear shot of one.

Your ducks were also great, I especially loved the males!
Wow, nice photography of red breasted mergancers.
You've got lots of very nice shots in here!
That's a very cool looking bird with the spiky hair.
When I was growing up, one of the local farmers (my father's cousin) had guinea hens. They're funny birds with a weird temperament. They don't stay near the farm like chickens and turkeys and other birds. They would roam around the whole village. When they had babies, you would see the mother with 12 chicks following her, then a few hours later, 8 chicks, and there would be fewer and fewer chicks as time went on. They don't make good mothers. :-D
Haha i bet the hawks were picking off the little chocken nugget babies. Guinea hens used to raid our garden back in arizona. I wonder if they taste any good.
