Have My Cake And Eat it Too - FFF #39

in #fff6 years ago (edited)

Interesting name for a title, right? I probably wouldn’t need a question as an opening sentence if my cover image pictured a piece of cake but, I don’t really eat cake, so I’ll explain where I got the title from in a little bit. Happy @foodfightfriday ya’all, welcome! I’m glad you made it.

This little port town we’re in and the entire country of Costa Rica is primarily Catholic—Holy Week is a big celebration down here that begins on the Sunday prior to Easter Sunday. This is how the believed celebration is commemorated:

Sunday “Palm Sunday” - Celebrating Jesus entering Jerusalem, remember this one? All of the vendors were lined up outside the cathedral doors prior to his arrival selling merchandise. Jesus was so disappointed with them turning his arrival into a circus he flipped over their merchandise tables. He called them snakes, the high priest even, he called all of them a brood of vipers. That’s celebrated last Sunday.

Monday “Holy Monday” - There’s several events that inspire this day’s celebration that vary between churches. Jesus cursing the fig tree on this day is one of them and Jesus being anointed at Bethany is another—this past Monday.

Tuesday “Holy Tuesday” - The celebration earlier this week is to commemorate Jesus predicting and describing his own death by crucifixion.

Wednesday “Spy Wednesday” - This day is celebrated to acknowledge Judas betraying Jesus by ratting out his location to the high Roman Priest, Caiaphas, in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. Judas subsequently threw the silver pieces back at Caiaphas and hanged himself. Caiaphas used the silver to purchase the land where Jesus was crucified.

Thursday “Maundy Thursday” (yesterday) - Jesus’ final supper is celebrated on this day, any type of private mass is forbidden. The only permissible mass is in the evening. Everything is closed in Costa Rica; church, market, restaurants, gym, everything. If it’s a store front, it’s closed yesterday and today—Good Friday. @puravidaville and I had to load up on groceries and cell phone minutes on Wednesday.

Friday “Good Friday” (today) - This day is observed across all Christian beliefs as the day Jesus was crucified on the cross and his subsequent death. In this port town, even the businesses with closed doors have closed doors today.

Saturday “Holy Saturday” (tomorrow) - Known as The Sabbath, it’s the day in between Jesus dying and his resurrection. Easter begins at sun down on this day, Saturday.

Sunday “Easter Day” - A day to acknowledge your Holy Week observances and Christians worldwide prepare for a feast and Easter Vigil celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Alright, well... :confession: I had no idea I was doing this tonight, I rarely know the direction of my #fff until I’m a few sentences in but I’m as surprised about this one as you are. I meant to use this space to talk about myself, hence the title, but I got tuned into Easter and the Holy Week timeline instead when I mentioned how deserted this town is right now. I didn’t know I’d be bouncing back and forth between my notepad and this Wikipedia page for this contender—interesting. Oh heck yeah, I was all over Wikipedia, back and forth - back and forth. I like to think I’m decently versed but I’m not hip to specific religious practices like Wikipedia is—there’s so many of them. Anyhow, that’s the Holy Week schedule preceding Easter and, seeing how this is a #food community, I should probably show you some food before I explain the title.

Chayote and black bean tacos topped with a cucumber, tomato, onion, red and green bell peppers, shredded purple cabbage and diced pineapple slaw with salsa and lime wedges on toasted corn tortillas (breathe!). Sweet potato and potato-potato (sour potato?) fries:

This is what I meant by even the businesses with closed doors have closed doors today:

And this is where “Have My Cake And Eat it Too” came from—did you see this article I resteemed yesterday featuring yours truly? I finally earned that signature picture I’m always talking about—have you seen it yet?

Ka’pow! What’s that, huh, what? Did you say you want to see it shrunken down a little bit? Ok, shrunken down, coming right up!

Oh, you want to see it in black now? Ok, signature picture of @dandays in black—coming right up!

I know what you’re thinking, “Dan,” because you probably think my name is Dan, rightfully so, my handle on here is Dan Days—that’s why your thought starts with “Dan.” Anyhow, “Dan,” you’re thinking, “but we can hardly even see you, that’s not a picture of you at all, it’s a picture of Pura Vida.” I don’t know how else to say it—uhm... ‘good eye!!’

Do you want to see the first one I showed you again but this time with pink disco lighting? Done!

Did you want to see that miniature one again but this time with two #steemit logos? You got it, two Steemit logos—coming up!

What was that? You want to see what it looks like with 13 logos? No problem! 13 logos... just for you. Nah, I’m not proud at all, can you tell?

Same place next week, deal? Did you already know the chronological order of Holy Week? I thought I had a vague idea—guess not! Thanks, Wikipedia! And thanks to you for hanging out with me again, happy Friday! Have a great Easter, God bless all of you who are and who are not reading this. Come embarrass yourself with us on Discord.

Sort:

Haha… you are so obnoxious but equally as cute. That’s an interesting post you threw down for triple f. I never new the exact timeline of Easter until now. What do you think about the name “Easter” and the representation with died eggs? What about the origin from Eostre, the pagan goddess…? Interesting stuff. I love you butt head, thank you for doing the dishes while I get back to my steem peeps. Muah xox

Dishes, timers, taste tests, no problem—I got this!

That’s the first time I heard about Eostre. I think there will always be contradicting stories to Christ, always. But I think even people that emphasize pagan tradition know what’s right in their heart. I pray for them.

As far as dyed eggs, there’s probably plenty of theories that suggest against that, too, but I don’t see the harm in it. All I remember about finding Easter eggs is fun and good times and that’s the simplest way to describe the resurrection—fun and good times. Thanks for asking!

iheartu all the time.

the 13 logos one was probably the best! showing off your skills!!

Jesus was so disappointed with them turning his arrival into a circus he flipped over their merchandise tables. He called them snakes, the high priest even, he called all of them a brood of vipers

Jesus was basically the real O.G, flipping tables like a rasta!

SO much rain here, you would enjoy it. I am digging up trenches to prevent flooding on our patio...
Happy Easter!! That I only managed to celebrate today

I don’t think the day matters as much as the “it.” What’s up, Ed? How goes it? Man I feel all alone over there now... I’m glad you didn’t think the 13 logos one was obnoxious.

You gotta be counting down the days now, add to the excitement a little rain. If I have to prepare for potential flood, probably not my favorite! I like puddle kind of rain, sounds like you’re dealing with lakes!

Thanks for stopping by, @edprivat.

edit You just think it’s cool this one time, right, that banner with all of the ‘look at me’ logos? You don’t think I should use it all the time do you?

Hey, @dandays.

Ah, Semana Santa. Sounds like a lot of work just to get out of work. For how many days? From Thursday through Sunday? Wow. We'd all have a meltdown up here if we went four days if businesses had closed doors on their closed doors. That place just plain looks like it's abandoned. :)

Well, for not knowing that your post was going to go this way, it definitely went this way. Thanks for squeezing in a used food image along with your ghost town and "I'm special" logo. :)

A big lol right here, you’re funny. How’s it going, Mr Albrethsen? You don’t think the world would stop spinning if the US closed up shop for four days do you? It sure as heck would! Keep it spinnin... keep it spinnin...

I don’t know if you’ve ever been through Louisiana but I was there about 10 years ago and the 9th ward looked like that image (post Katrina), all boarded up and locked down. Pura and I were there again just about three years ago and it’s better, but not by much. That’s what this town reminded me of for those four days—so interesting.

Eh, being a cartoon animator, you have an idea just how long it took me to cut and paste all of those logos too! 😉

Thanks for stopping by, @glenalbrethsen.

I've been to Houston, and I've been to Baltimore/Washington DC, but have yet to see anything in between. I can imagine it, though.

Well, I'm glad you took it all in stride. All done in good fun. I'm certainly not the FFF overlord by any stretch. Isn't that your job? No wait. Weirdheadaches? No. Maybe? I know it's not me is what I'm saying. :)

No way, we’ve been telling everyone is you.

Wow...Imagine being a backpacker strolling into town with everything 'closed' and you're out of supplies? Guess you'd have to wander into the jungle and forage for food, hoping your 'not' on the menu of a Puma or something...???

Hey, what’s up, angryman, hows it goin? Happy Friday, sir! Yeah, not a good day time to back-pack this country unless you load up on supplies no later than Wednesday! 👍🏿

Funny you say Puma, that botanical garden I featured last week.. I was talking with the property owners and they’ve only seen one cat, one time, in the 25 years they’ve been there—it was a puma. Could you imagine that? Being face to face with a kitty cat that’ll rip your face off?! (you wouldn’t be face to face anymore)

Thanks for stopping by, @angryman. What’s on your agenda for Easter? Family stuff?

they’ve only seen one cat, one time, in the 25 years they’ve been there—it was a puma

Pumas seem to show up in very unexpected (highly populated) places sometimes, even in Cities here in the U.S.

I once stayed in a Northeastern city where a puma was being reported seen, multiple times by residents, and the "authorities" refused to believe it saying that it "was impossible" and could never be verified by police response until a resident took a video of it in their backyard.

Also, I stepped out from my door one afternoon, and a 'deer' ran right in front of me on the sidewalk!?!

Dear Artzonian, thanks for using the #ArtzOne hashtag. Your work is valuable to the @ArtzOne community. Quote of the week: Art, freedom and creativity will change society faster than politics. -Victor Pinchuk

Thank you! Ya’all know how to make a dude feel welcome.

Thanks for stopping by, @artzone.

it looks like it's very delicious to enjoy

Your eye is spot on! 🧿 Thanks for stopping by, @agil04.

haha! howdy sir dandays! so is your name Dan in real life? Because when I talk about you guys to Mrs. J all I can say is the "guy who moved to Costa Rica" and that's a long thing to say all the time in conversations. Anyway, great pictures of steemit there. At least I hear people say that steemit is a ghost town compared to what it used to be.
But as far as the holiday and businesses closing I can understand but it looks like there's no people in town either!

But those tacos! Wow, I would never guess the pineapple slaw and cucumbers would fit in tacos! I'd have to try it to believe it! Very unique though and they HAVE to be tasty.
all in all I'd have to say this was a fairly decent attempt at a post.

Dan, negative. Puras name starts with a D, mine starts with an A, like Arts. This account is actually D and A’s, get it? The Costa Rica guy is cool, though, do you think you’ll change my name when we live in other countries? That’ll be exciting alternating names.

I’m still trying to get used to busy, it’s better than steempeak, I think. What’s with Steepshot? Have you ever tried that one? It seems to be missing a lot of features.

Tell Mrs. J we have talked about her a few times and pray for her. Tell her we hope her prison is the only one of its kind.

Thanks for stopping by, @janton.

Howdy sir dandays! no I don't get the name thing except that your's starts with A and Pura's starts with D but that's fine. I like The Costa Rica Guy but I don't know if I'll change it to the other countries, I'll have to go with dandays. Busy is pretty darn nice. so is esteem. I still use busy to format my posts first. I've never tried Steepshot. Some people did for awhile but I don't see that one anymore.

Thanks so much for your prayers for Mrs. J, her place of work just keeps getting worse because of the horrible people they hire. They're mean, nasty and lazy. And of couse they absolutely hate anything to do with Christianity. She's the only one there who care's about the inmates as you know so she's viewed as weak because she doesn't get off on cussing them out or making them suffer just for the fun of it.

Plus the place is so unfair because the other lazy guards all smoke so they spend about 2 hours each shift taking smoke breaks. They all go out and hang around outside and take 25 minute smoke breaks while Mrs. J is busting her tail, on her feet for 12 hours helping everyone else out and doing the work that is required but they won't do it because they know she will.

It's insane. She's thinking of trying to get into the probation officer department because that's better money and 5 days a week on days. The nights are really tough.

During my career I was always a fan of night shift. Not graveyard, swing—3 - 11 or something.

You don’t get the name thing? Sure you do, watch.. dandays—D and A’s, see it? If it’s not Dan, it’s D, following me? The next three letters is ‘and,’ D and. Then there’s an A, D and A. A’s as in more than one A, I spelled with a ‘YS,’ ..”Ays” and that’s where dandays comes from.

Of course, prayers, our pleasure, sir! Really.

Esteem won’t load for me, all I have is mobile and their mobile app won’t load, all I get is this:
1A9F85E7-1172-4584-85FC-E71AD0EF9D07.png

I like the upvote from busy though! My Steemit is finally working. Got it to work last night, several people were having the same issue and finally wolfhart suggest to clear my cache—which I’m such a nerd I didn’t know what that meant. ‘History,’ I cleared all of my web history and now I’m posting this on Steemit. I couldn’t hardly do anything for four days.. I feel like I went backward in time.

What’s the equivalent to missing four days on Steemit in really life—2 weeks?

haha! howdy sir dandays! yes in steemit time 4 days is about 2 weeks, that's exactly the way I see it too!

Night shift sucks, the 3 to 11, but that would be great compared to what she's working. Their night shifts are 6pm to 6am. thank goodness she's one who can sleep during the day and alot of people can't so they're all messed up all the time and exhausted. I've worked graveyard shift for probably 25 years, I like it.But my days were always so much longer than 8 hours so it just included graveyard.

Thanks for stopping by, @helpiecake.

Wow, this cake really makes me want to immediately enjoy it, you will definitely enjoy it today

I hope you’re having a great Easter weekend, sir. Thanks for stopping by, @ustazkarim.

yes, I am very happy, I hope you become my good friend, I will continue to support you, good luck

I think the celebration is very sacred and the cakes are very delicious. I have never seen a Christian celebration directly here because my area is generally Muslim.

Where I’m from, in the US, Catholics don’t practice their religion as strictly as they do here in Costa Rica. Then again, in the US, even Christians are programmed to believe they should work themselves into the ground and taking a day off work is a sin.

Just the other day, I saw Cici release this post that went into detail about her/your religion—awesome, I love this stuff! Know that I wish us all the same blessings, elianaelisma! Alquran (make sure I spelled that right 😉), Bible, whichever book you rely on to make yourself a better person—I say God bless us all the same.

Thanks for stopping by, @elianaelisma.

You're a funny dude, if you got it flaunt it. I also thought you had attended a Parochial school for Catholics from preschool thru HS. Clicking on the link you provided, I realized that research had provided you with this outline of the events surrounding Easter.
#farm-mom attended private Catholic schools her entire life, and I was about to tell her that if she wanted to talk religion, she should get in touch with @dandays.
It always seemed a little strange to me how so many people can wear so many different hats that seem to be so contradictory. One minute you have a person giving you the finger, or reaching into your pocket to take what is not theirs, road rage, and many other behaviors that don't exemplify what they practice on religious holidays.

@dandays I am a little disappointed that you didn't provide us with the Shining Qurite badge with some power lines down, sparking in the background.

Have a Happy Easter

Happy Easter to you and yours, sir! The memories you’re giving those grandkids will last a lifetime. Preaching (preaching?) to the choir, right?

Oh, heck no, I was bouncing back and forth between what I know, Wikipedia, and DuckDuckGo to put this one together. I like to think I’m well versed and the way I’ve always explained Easter is: “Matthew 10.” The whole chapter—that former tax collector really spells it out in that chapter. But details like I wrote, especially pertaining to a specific religion, nah.. I need Wikipedia, sir. 😉

I agree with you about the hats, sometimes I wish our mirrors could talk to us and straighten us out every time we need it. Some reflect better than others, I guess... I’m still in search of one that talks, myself, know where I can find one? 🤔 I used to wear hats, Rob, you should’ve seen my collection! I bet I had 40 brand new hats at one time, amongst an existing collection, special shelving along the wall even, all starter hats, fitted (7n5/8) with a flat bill. I’m such an only child syndrome having nerd.

One time, 3-4 years ago at JP’s bible study that me and a few of my friends would attend weekly, 1 Cor 11:4 finally sunk in. From that point on, I started taking my hat off every time I would talk to God. Then I would get pissed at myself the times I forget and take my hat off, start my conversation from the beginning, etc. I found a way to stop that. I have a hat to keep the sun out of my face, covers my shoulders, for outdoors but I don’t have that collection anymore—I kinda rock this Mohawk thing now instead and I can just freestyle whenever I want. 👍🏿

Oh, what was that? You want to see a @dandays signature picture during a power outage and a lightning storm? I thought you’d never ask!

ACEC3FCF-FD32-40B9-8EA5-8BB4C3754D4B.jpeg

Great reply, Great reply, thanks for taking the time to answer and explain everything from my reply.
You gotta love the internet for info of any kind!
Never a big hat person until I started to lose my hair and started shaving my head at about 30. Wear a hat for the same reasons myself now, to keep that fire ball up in the sky from making my head as red as that chiote flower that @puravidaville included in a recent post. You know the one with Steve Buscemi putting on the lipstick.

Now that's a signature picture, you know, being a retired electrician and all.
Be at peace with God, whatever you perceive him to be.

That place turns into a ghost town. Looking at the images, you would think the whole place vacated due to tsunami warnings or something. That Jesus guy sure does have some influence. 😉
If I was down there is would be eating tacos all day everyday. Every kind of taco you could think of. Drizzle some homemade hot sauce on them babies for a little kick! C’MON!!
Congrats, you Shining Qurite!! You deserve it for your efforts around this place.
Cheers!!

Shining, huh? What are you taking about? Oh you mean this little ol’ thing?

Thanks a lot for noticing, Splatts, I really appreciate it.

Interesting, right? Even the one and only gas station in town has been closed, it won’t open up again until Monday.

You can get all of the tacos you want down here, whatever meat you can think of and the majority of it is all farmed here. The fish prices are actually great because there’s so much competition on ever bicycle/corner/back of a car trunk/side of the street in traffic, really! That side of the street one is a fact—in the city, where there’s toll booths traffic slows, locals walk up and down the center divide selling stuff: water, plantains, candy, pineapple, lottery tickets, someone is usually selling fish that’s still attached to their fishing pole, too.

Thanks for stopping by, @jlsplatts. You got a full house for Easter? Be thankful bro. God bless ya’all.

Ya, that awful thing... what does it even mean?? LOL.
So your telling me I might be able to put on some pounds in that part of the world??? That is as fresh as it gets!! Could you image people doing that outside of LA??? I have got a story for you that an old operator told me that he did when he was building bridges. No not making friends literally building bridges. WhatsApp is needed for this one. LOL.

Well, Mr. @dandays...this was an awesome post...where do I begin? I love the walk through Easter week, great info and wow, that town looks like a ghost town! I bet it was kind of spooky, too quiet right? I just want you and @puravidaville to know, after her post last night I went right to the market today to purchase chayote.. and another pinapple! (Did I tell you I am growing m y own?) .I'm making tacos and I'll prove it in a post this week! Those look so amazing....I didn't manage to get any rutabagas but I do have sweet taters...they'll have to do! Congrats again on the Spotlight....you truly deserved it, about time! I'll say it again, you two are just too cute! God Bless you, hope you have an amazing Easter....I'll be at the Sunrise service on the beach :)

Happy Easter, @birdsinparadise, you should be enjoying that sunrise mass shortly—God bless you guys!

Thank you, I’m glad you liked this one, it took me by surprise but I just kept going with it. I’ve seen a few discrepancies about Holy Week and wasn’t certain myself so here we are—got it figured out finally! 😉

I appreciate your kind words, thank you for being so encouraging, I’m glad we met! I look forward to hanging out with you on Fridays.

The first time I had chayote, I deep fried it, this was quite a few years ago and, of course, what isn’t good deep fried, right? They weren’t deep fried this time and equally delicious.

Thanks for stopping by, @birdsinparadise.

What a fictures fight friday post 😂😂😂 at least that tacos don't make my tiny pet in stomach make a crazy singing and dancing 😊 the deserted town reminds me to my old days at my hometown every friday, during the friday pray. So deserted.

Well, hello miss Cici, or should I call you Just Trying? I’m glad you liked this one, are you still battling your steemmonsters addiction?

Deserted little town isn’t it? In the states, days don’t go deserted like this, everyone is too busy working to pay off student loans or mortgages regardless of their religion. In fact, the the US, working is approached religiously.

Thanks for stopping by, @cicisaja. It’s always a pleasure hearing from you.

That kind of deserted atmosphere has happened too last wednesday, everyone gathering to vote on president and legislative members.. the road so empty for few hours, even the kids not around😊

And yeap.. I'm still battling on my addiction and share it on facebook too😂😂😂 I need something better to stop my love for the monsters.

Thank you @dandays for this post. It reminds me of what I am missing in Georgia. We will make it to a Sunrise Service at our old church here in CA.

Those tacos look great, I love all the ingredients, and on corn tortillas. You guys always put me to work trying all these different recipes, but I love it. Thanks again @dandays.

My pleasure @paleotwist. I’m glad you liked it. I’ve seen a couple of different explanations that contradict each other and I wasn’t certain myself, figured I’d use #fff to figure it out—they’re cool like that.

What part of California are you in? Preparing for an Easter feast I assume—happy Easter!

Thanks for stopping by, @paleotwist. Thanks for hanging out with us on Fridays, it wouldn’t be the same without you, your blog has been fun to watch evolve.
