I've been told that my work cannot be published because it was posted here on Steem. It is possible to delete items from Steem now, even things that were written long ago.
Since we will be self-publishing it might not be that big of a deal, but I still would like to see something original that isn't available anywhere else.
I really think writing something new is the best idea, but if you've got something that fits the bill and it's 10 to 20 pages long then I'm definitely open to checking it out.... but I don't think it should be publishled anywhere already, and if it is it should probably be deleted just to make sure we don't run into any snags in the publishing process.
If you self publish you can publish what you want as long as you own the rights (so even if you have had a book professionally published if the rights have reverted back to you you can self publish it), so publishing anything anywhere is not a barrier to self publication. Traditional publishers (or anyone who wants to make money from publishing) avoid publishing works that have appeared on the internet because if you can find it for free why would you buy it. But there are exceptions (Fifty Shades of Gray being the most obvious), and the rule is not unbreakable. By the way I have been told by the good folks in @thewritersblock that you can not delete what has been published on the blockchain. You can edit it but the original version stays on the blockchain and is accessible to people who know more about these things than I do. The edited verson is just added. So it would be like a pile of papers. The latest version is visable on the top of the pile, but the first version is always there on the bottom of the pile and you can not destroy it.
EDIT: that explains why it costs more resource credits to edit a post than to publish it. You are not just editing a few words but adding a whole new version of the same post to the blockchain, without removing the original
That’s GREAT information I had just been thinking about editing. Thank you for answering a question that i didn’t even k ow how to look up the answer for.

I know of two writers on here who have self published stories they have published on the blockchain (most of them written in response to the freewrite prompts). There books are available on amazon.

Exactly what @felt.buzz said. And especially since the book would be used to promote the blockchain, I'd even EXPECT the work to be available here on the blockchain.
But also I can write something new. As long as I'm not the one doing the organizing work, I'm happy to just write without worrying about those other details.
I'm on board with whatever everybody agrees with. I just have fresh in my mind the thought that I was frowned upon for having work previously published on the blockchain. I know it doesn't affect self-publishing though, and I willing to work with whatever ideas everyone has.
I do like the thought that we come out with fresh product though. I'm hoping this could be the start of several different books of various themes..... this one using Supernatural.
I like supernatural!
