What a great fish! Definitely worth the wait.
Hmmm, rods pulled in... silly buggers, who forgets to put the bait runner on? I will just go sit in a corner and hang my head in shame...
On my way down now for a bit of a session. Would be nice to get one half as big.
Thanks matey - i have photo's of myself retrieving a lost rod from the bottom of a lake and swimming back to shore with the fish still on :) Not my rod, but it was the talking point on the lake for months... Even with all the right gear, iv'e had the rod pulled off the pod more than once when snag fishing or just in close. i'm currently lending my carp gear out so i fish without my Stratos fs 12000 baitrunners and fox warriors - and use my Diawa Emcast advanced 5500 and fox sfd rods.
Just got a new rod to replace the lost one. About to give it a test run. A little Shimano 6'6 Sahara 3-5kilo with 8 pound braid, 8 pound flouro leader. On a Sedona 2500 reel. Feels nice and balanced in stringing the reel, so am about to see how it goes on the water. Hopefully christen it with a good fish, knowing my luck, will catch a minnow.
So a 2 piece spinning rod and a fancy reel with gold on, no bait runner? - For catching carp around 5kg -wow - Adrenaline junky - that must be fun on such light gear, i'm sure you will do fine, and catch plenty - that's the kind of gear id use for yellow fin whiting LOL - i use a abu veritas and team diawa tierra for the whiting, if i tried to catch carp on that - i don't think i could get them in - id just get spooled - i'm sure you would love to do some "propper carpin", rods on alarms, chillin with beer in hand - talking into the night - everything from philosophy to quantum physics -best books through to best movies- waiting for that screaming run from a 20+ or even a 30+ .... i got the itch now :)
Oh, you know how to paint a pretty picture! Yep, great fun on the light gear. It started as habit picking up carp as bycatch on my Yellowbelly trips, and just getting used to the gear.
Got a nice fish this evening, about 5some kilo. The gear performed really well. Smooth drag under a long fast run, and the rod was great close in, really pleased and looking forward to many more sessions with the rig.
