Craving for Comfort Food

We all have our days right? Those kind of days where you just want to relax, eat and munch on your favourite__(fill in the blanks)__. The kind of food you eat when you have an exhausting day, the kind of food that makes you happy and relax as you bite onto it and watch a movie. Everyone has their version of comfort food. Some are Mac and Cheese, pancakes, burger, anything! My comfort food is a nice slice of pizza with olives and meat of course. I love how the aroma of cheese, marinara sauce and pizza dough infuses and create that “pizza smell”. And when you bite on the crust…….(take a deep breath) Heaven.

I don’t know how to describe it more in words; I guess I reached the vocabulary limit of describing the perfect slice. Pizza is one of my favorite comfort food whenever I need a taste of something besides rice and noodles in Beijing. Let’s be honest here, if you love pizza, you want a good pizza. ATT: Pizza Lover Alert

“So, where can I get a good slice of Pizza?”

There are a couple of Pizza outlets in Beijing but one of the best pizzas around the university is the ones from Tube Station.

Tube Station was founded in 1999, and went from a humble a hole-in-the-wall streetside sandwich joint to a fast-expanding pizza brand with 15 branches across Beijing.
Thanks to its authentic American-style pizza served in a trendy environment, as well as being home to “The Biggest Pizza in Beijing,” Tube Station Pizza has gained legions of young local and expat fans along the way. With our international F&B Research and Development team, handpicked ingredients from across the globe, and strict quality requirements, Tube Station promises to deliver the most authentic NYC-style slices in a relaxed dining environment fit for even the most discerning of China’s foodies.

Being in China, there is less expectations since Pizza is not part of a Chinese diet. Spoiler: Pizza Hut in China may disappoint foreigners, lots of our friends including me find their Pizza dough a bit too thick to our liking, it taste a lot like bread for us. Sorry Pizza Hut (China), that pizza I ate should not have corns.

Why would you like Pizza from the Tube Station?

It is H-U-G-E, HUGE!!!!

drool..............😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Tube Station is awesome (I love the "Spicy Godfather," even if it's not nearly as spicy as it used to be when I first got to Beijing in 2014).
But Kro's Nest is even better, in my humble opinion.
In any case, you have won a follower.

woohoo!!!! found someone who has been to beijing!!!!!
I haven't try the Spicy Godfather yet, maybe i should give it a try. =)
Tube Station is famous for the size, but I do agree that Kro's Nest is better in terms of taste too.
Well, you earn yourself a follower too! i'm surprised that you find this post even though it is 5 days old now

I was browsing through the topic "China," since it's kind of the focus of my blog, although I tend to focus on political issues, and... well, you can tell from the two flags on my profile pic where I stand on THAT score right now. Nothing against the people, but things since Xi came along have been... well, tense.
But yeah, I've been to Beijing. I actually still live there. And despite the political tooth-gnashing, it's a great place to visit. The food is an adventure in itself. Did you ever get around to the fried scorpions at the Night Market?

I was there when my friends eat it. I wasn't brave enough though... maybe when i have the guts i will make an attempt for it. I don't even eat chicken feet although it taste alright. lol

I may be wrong but you look like a Filipina. Kumusta po? I may be terribly worng. Haha. Apology if I am.

haha, nope, not from there.

:( Pizza is my favorite meal. Now you've awakened my craving!!!

I think my favorite moments in my life have been while eating pizza, maybe hot dogs and hamburgers too. Those are the default junk food here in Venezuela, and they are all very very tasty. Pizza, however, has this nuance of also having different levels of sophistication.

A Hindu uncle of mine gave me a vegetarian pizza a few months ago and it was just as you describe it. No more words to it than heavenly. It was the best pizza I've ever eaten. It reached such a sublime level of perfection that I was left mute, entranced by all the flavors it contained.

I think I need to go eat some pizza soon. O.O I've been eating in a bit of a monotone trend. Thanks for showing me the right way in life. o/

hahahaha, enjoy yr pizza. Don't refrain yourself from enjoying what life offers, i usually eat moderately so i still get to enjoy food from time to time. I can't eat too much meat because my body don't react well to it unfortunately, but i do enjoy a slice of pizza if i can. =D

32-inch Party Monster is frigging insane. :D

Don't have to eat for days after this meal. The pizza is so gigantic that you must go with a large group to share.

I could've resided with family in Beijing in 2009 but gave up eventually for some reasons. Good to know you're loving Beijing. Do consider working and living there for good!

2009? that is just a year after the olympics, and beijing was developing that time! Beijing has changed a lot ever since, do visit China to explore went you have the time =)
life here has changed so much that I missed the technology when I'm away from Beijing

Ya almost 10 years ago.

Beijing is a place of east meets west. Chinese history is greeted by new buildings and westernised things across the city. Also nice and friendly people.

Two downsides I can think of are traffic jams virtually morning and evening and smog sometimes... That said, I still hope to give it a short visit around end of this year or in two years time, but have to see if my boy wants to hit Beijing. If he will say 'I prefer elsewhere", then no luck for me.

Enjoy Beijing while you're there.

oh true, gotta admit traffic can be really bad at rush hours. I usually avoid those hours when i get on the subway to go places. Sure, i will enjoy the life here as much as i can, and hope u can visit china(not necessary beijing ) for yr family vacation

That is big and does look delicious! Don't remember eating Pizza when I was in Beijing. No I feel like I missed out on that one.

hahaha, its alright, i bet yr place has better pizza than in beijing

We do also have a Pizza Hut :D...
What I actually liked in Beijing was the McDonald's, they had something on the menu with rice and vegetables, I thought that was really cool. (Btw, I'm talking about back in 2004, haven't been since).

Mm mmm pizza.
We love pizza here in canada. Pizza shops everywhere.
I usually make it from scratch, dough and all, I love to customize the toppings :)
Take care,
@amymya

do you know there is a brand call Canadian Pizza in south east asia? Cheers <3 =)

Holy moly now THAT is a HUGE slice of Pizza! :D

Would definitely love to OM NOM NOM NOM it
Cheers!

wow pretty cool pizza!

thanks!! It's the biggest in Beijing, China. 32 inch!

We have something similar here in the Philippines called Big Guys Pizza but tastes like a cardboard hahaha.
Yours looks tasty!

perhaps you could let them know it taste like cardboard so they would improve, and you can eat a good big guys pizza

I think I am going to order pizza now lol

Pizza all the way!!! (my all time fav: pepperoni)

Wow that pizza is huge. Im not my pizza lover myself but friends are and we always order the huge one because we are a lot and they love to eat pizza much. ^^

I really thought you were eating your pizza on a train. Lol had to read everything just to make sure. Nonetheless yummy food.

hahaha, next time my recordings will be clearer since i just upgrade myself to a new phone now =D
And the name is confusing because it is called Tube Station, lol certainly sounds like the tube in london
thanks for dropping by.
It is a huge pizza! bigger than my face if they cut it into slices instead of squares

Hahaha :) yes and I look forward to it. I'm having a hard time using dtube since internet is a little slow here.

speaking of dtube, it does uses more internet compare to youtube, i might need to upload videos in a different way for my posts

Lol. If I ever make it back to Beijing I think I’ll have to hit you up for eating places. By the way, I had a slice of pizza in Vietnam last year. It had corn on it too. Weird. I agree with you. Pizza should not have corn.
AEA29004-F492-4DF8-9EA3-AA86DB033D6D.jpeg

oh NOoo!!!! corn on pizza😆
Well, at least its not as bad as durian pizza! asians can have crazy taste buds, lol

Pizza is the ultimate comfort food!!! It's so good that it transcends cultures!! Great post!

you know what's the funniest part? asking our italian friends about their opinions of pineapples on pizza! lol.. the face they give do crack me up

Haha! That's a big debate here in the US. Some people love pineapple on pizza, some don't. Your post makes me want to go to Beijing just to try the Pizza Hut. I tried McDonald's in South Africa and it's a little different than here. I don't know why but I found that pretty interesting.

lol, expect sweet corn and other stuff. Speaking of McDonalds, they build cafés here. They call it McCafé and they serve coffee, mocha, latte and pastries. KFC in China has more popularity compare to McDonalds. and they do serve Chinese sweet sauce in their wrap! #onlyinchina =D

They have McCafes here but its just what they call the coffee line of drinks. In South Africa they had actual cafes with baristas and coffee shop snacks. I assume that is what they have in Beijing too?
I did some research and corn is the number one pizza topping in Dubai. I think pepperoni is the most popular here!

yup they do, actual cafes are becoming a trend in the large cities. Oh i know what's best in South Africa, BRAAI =D

WHAT??? OH BOY OH BOY!!!! A MILLION THANKS!!!!

What can I say? I love pizza. haha I hope you enjoy!

I love pizza and can have one at any time of the day or night - even for breakfast!

In my mind I had though that if I ever visit Beijing I'll try out authentic Chinese food. But your post makes me change my mind - I will surely look for the pizza at the Tube Station!

oh, i know...overnight pizza!!! I would not suggest you to go to Pizza hut in China but Tube Station isn't bad. There are others too like Kro's Nest which i would feature in future posts!
I've been in China for 3 years so i do crave them from time to time. I miss good cakes too!!!
But if you're going to China on a short trip, give the chinese food a try!! super delicious actually

Hmm, definitely will!

Actually, not Beijing, but some of the smaller cities were on my list, mainly for my ecom business. In fact I had plans to visit one of the trade fairs for China is famous.

谢谢 !

ah... GuangZhou Fair i presume? That fair is the most famous one!

Yes, that is correct. That is the main area.

I love pizza.

high five! i love it too!

Ha! 12 Chinese adults. It would take about 3 Americans to finish one of those.

hahahahaha, i couldn't agree more. we are small eaters(or girls pretending to be small eaters) lol

That's so gorgeously good.. Man I'm craving for some good pizza at this moment.. Too bad there's not many good pizza joints from where I'm from.. Loving the pics

i am gonna visit Beijing in about 20days and i will be there for 6 days! any tips in general? or hidden gems to visit that not many tourists go?

hmm... check out my previous post here: 10 things you should practice before coming into China when you are there, make sure the notes they give you is renminbi and not some mongolian notes, u might want to pay attention to that.
check out this website, its our expat website, its a compilation with all kinds of suggestions : https://www.thebeijinger.com/visitor-guide/What-to-See , be sure to check out 798 art district too
Hidden gems: 芳草地 (fang chao di) at Chaoyang district, locals like to hang out there. you need to go to summer palace too, tourist and locals like to go there. =D if you go early, there are lot of locals doing their activities, nice place to take architecture photos

i need to add something, rush hours is usually 7.30am-9am and 5-7pm, traffic can be bad in beijing so taking the subway is highly recommended. I usually use baidu maps to go to anywhere, (if you can read a bit of chinese it will be a plus)

i have checked the beijinger already and i am gonna check your post right now! Sadly i don't know chinese not a even a bit only english and my native language of course so i don't have high hopes in communication. Others told me too that chinese don't speak english but that's not an issue we will find a way!

2 more questions (sorry for the too many questions :P ). the first one is what about the weather? i know it's winter but i don't know how exactly you winter is , i have read some articles but your opinion would be more vulnerable i think. do you have often rains, just cold? the cold needs coat and heavy jackets or it is not that strong

and the last questions is about people. is there any do and dont's between natives and tourists ( you know that can be ideas for future posts, i have 16 days till i live so if you make new posts i can read and get my answers from there instead of asking you and annoy you :P

It doesn't rain in beijing during winter, just cold and dry(from what i know, no snow)
You can check out the forum in the beijinger and(https://www.thebeijinger.com/forum) to hire a guide/interpreter of your language if you want. there are lots foreign students in beijing so if you need one don't feel shy to ask in the forum or i can spread the news among the international students too.
another tip, if you download the premium version of Pleco(app store or google play), you can access the character recognition function by using your phone camera and it can help you to translate. this app is useful if you need to translate menu, signs and ect.
Thanks for the inspiration, next post will be very soon =)

thanks a lot for your information! i have already booked for some day tours so i don't need other guides i think. the days which we gonna be solo i think it would be better just to randomly explore the town and if we are lucky meet new people! i am too optimist right? :P

sure, just explore around! btw, i posted something on Uber not being in Beijing, u can check it out =)

haha i have already checked it and wrote a comment there too which you replied back :P

Pizza is one of my favorites, for sure. Have you ever had New York pizza?! There's nothing like it. :)

What an absolutely epic pizza! Thank you for sharing. I've got to show my sister. She loves pizza.

That 32 inch pizzaaaaaaa 🙈

i know right??? hhahahaha. msia needs one like that too!
