There is a Russian dish that is made in the similar way of turning it upside-down and topping it (with glaze), but it is a dessert called Kulich (кулич). It is made on Easter and has to get sanctified in the church before eating. Its main ingredients are eggs, milk, sugar and flour.

Sure! There are recipes with cream fillings :) they get very dry otherwise.
