When I was scanning through the seed catalog last year, I came across Tabasco peppers. The Big Man loves hot, spicy foods. If your nose ain’t running like a faucet, it ain’t hot enough.
So naturally, I thought why not give them a try? I started them early indoors, and transplanted them into the garden once conditions were right. However, because they were more for fun, and not nesseccity, I neglected them. The Big Man eventually took some time to weed them, and by golly, those tough buggers gave us peppers. Well, not a whole lot, but more than we expected!
My plan was to dehydrate the tabasco peppers and grind into powder. The Big Man uses Tabasco sauce on multiple dishes. I often turned my nose up when he did this. Yuck! Tabasco sauce? That was until I started making homemade pizza. Folks, you cannot make a decent homemade pizza unless you put Tabasco sauce in the pizza sauce. No, it just cannot be done!
On to the process!
These peppers sat on our counter for some time and dried down a ways on their own.
I tossed out the fully green peppers that didn’t want to ripen, and cut the rest of the good ones in half. Place on a lined cookie sheet, and put in the oven at 170 degrees for 1 hour.
Nice and crisp!
Toss into a regular large food processor, because I don’t have one of those nice small ones used for margaritas (or whatever it is they are used for.)
When life hands you Tabasco peppers, make Tabasco flakes, because that’s the next best thing to powder! Looks like Fruity Pebbles cereal. One pepper must not have dried down enough because it didn’t want to chop up. I threw it out.
Now I have it stored away in an old yeast jar. Since I couldn’t get this into a powder, I won’t be using it in pizza sauce. But I think it’ll work for tacos and other dishes of the sort.
Have you ever done something like this yourself? How did it turn out? I can’t wait to try mine out!
I have not done this before, I probably would have but my pepper plants didn't make it. Oh well maybe next year!

I was surprised ours made it. We’ll plant some again next year, but much less lol. Do you preserve any of your veggies, or do you eat it all while fresh?
For now just been eating them fresh, but I want to try my hand at pickles next year!

Oh nice we call them as mirchi in our country .we do the same process as shown above from plucking onwards to make them as paste or drying them in sun and bringing into powder form .
Ooo a paste? How do you make that?
I would let u know
Ooo my husband will love this. I'm not big into spicy. But why don't you enter something like this in #fruitsandveggiesmonday for @lenasveganliving. She's lovely and there are some amazing people and recipes there.
Oh, I’ve seen that tag around, but never really looked more into it. How does one enter?
Tomorrow (mon) go onto @lenasveganliving page and read her #fruitsandveggiesmonday post. The instructions are all there. You basically upvote, resteem and comment with your post. One important rule is that your ingredients must be only vegan. There are really lovely people there and some yummy recipes. The amazing thing is that there are three prizes (first, second and third each get some SBD) plus there are 4 bonus prizes of 1SBD! So you are a winner any way you look at it! Whether I enter or not, even if I don't get a prize I really appreciate the other posts and Lena is really sweet
This is the basic ingredient in Asian cuisines and its too hot to be honest, black pepper or the fresh green chili is a better thing to go with
howdy hebrewhousewife! oh this is a great idea, have you tried them yet? I think they have to be good!
:-) Looks like fun! Are you Tabernacle-ing? We did get to spend a ton of time outside on the porch but every night I gave up and went inside. One night my husband got stung by a hornet of all things. Mostly it was just the mosquitoes. I'm tagging you for a challenge in a read that you might find somewhat interesting :-) ttyl
Yummmm this looks good!
Ill have to put this on my list of things to try. I recently got a dehydrator and have been drying all kinds of things, haha!
