RE: When Feeding the Homeless is Illegal, Feeding the Homeless is the Honorable Option!

in #food7 years ago

There's no place to fish. You can't farm in a city.
People are trapped, and can't just leave on their own. They don't have resources to set up farms or other means of production.

They've had a tough life, and their mental landscape is not conducive to learning to fish.

Sometimes they just need help, and there's nothing you can do to help them except lessen their burden.

Sort:

I once read in the news that a homeless couple were given a hotel room for a day, kindly paid by some folks, only for them to find out that some of the equipment was stolen and the rest smashed by the homeless couple before they ran off.

Forgot what point i was trying to make after writing a whole paragraph... i'll probably come back to re-edit, time for me too get some sleep, it's 6am here :p

Desperate people will do things that seem foolish to us, but wise to them.
They must have needed a pen, a lamp, or whatever else they took.

Maybe they thought they were at war with society. Their lives might have been far more tragic and difficult than you realize, and they might view everyone around them as a potential enemy.

The only thing I can recommend is more compassion.

More compassion, until the world is better.

Never stop. Never feel hatred or disgust or contempt for other humans.

Only compassion and empathy.

while I agree with you in general principle ,I struggle with that .When I watch some of the videos of police brutality ,them beating and shooting people,my blood boils! when I see injustice and corruption so blatant displayed with no thought or care because they know that there is no one to stop them or that will prosecute them.
I no hate and violence are not the answer! I know we are being intentionally Triggered ,to cause civil response so they can use more force!
The right to remain silent but not the ability or self control... lol.
namaste!

What do you think the answer is?

Peaceful discussion with people who find it ok to brutally murder people or enslave them? Maybe that'll fix it.

Please do not get me wrong.
I respect and agree that with what you are saying.
but how do you manage an animal that has Rabies?
and what do you do with know murders and psychopaths? How do you treat them with love and respect?
and why do we consider it humane to put rabid animals and animals such as horse's down if they break a leg?
...Killing in the name of love? Sometimes we are faced with tuff decisions.
I have seen the results of not doing the right(?) thing with a horse.... years of misery for the poor horse! and have seen the locals fish & game , ranchers, and farmers hunt down rabid Animals...
I would love to believe that we could talk and love the changes into effect, but I suspect we are going to have to use more aggressive means.
I have never been bitten by a rabid animal, but I know people who have, and the treatment is not (or was not)fun! 4-5 shots, weeks of pain.
Here's to finding a way! :-)
namaste!

if what you are saying is true then these people are hopeless and in many ways pests to society. It's a very depressing outlook that you've shed but the important thing is to keep hope alive, without it you might as well be dead. Think about it? What kinda life is that to live? Day to day just waiting for someone to give you handout?

There is no such thing as a pest.

Just as we feed upon the lives of animals and plants, others may feed upon us.
The circle of life does not have an ending point. It simply spirals upwards.

What is depressing to you is another person's chance to help someone.

You are amazing, following now

i think you've misunderstood me, I am glad there are helping hands out there. What I don't agree with is some people get too used to getting hand outs and they don't want to change. I like to help people who help themselves, I never said there was anything wrong helping others. It;s the picture you painted for me earlier that made me depressed. It was just the hopelessness of what you've said that made me depressed.

Life is depressing, and I can't say I'm all that happy about the state of things either.

But remember that these people are fighting uphill against oppressive governments, cruel people, and institutions that help them only enough that they join the cult, be it religious or government, or some other societal movement.

The only way to truly help people is to offer them education, and if that does not work, love. Just love. Nothing else is necessary except love, although giving them food, clothing, and knowledge is also quite lovely.
