let me tell you a little about unripe plantain.

When some folks visit the market to buy plantain, they avoid the unripe plantain and buy the ripe ones or if they eventually buy the unripe one, they keep it in their house till it gets ripe before they cook it. Little do they know that unripe plantain is more healthy than ripe plantain, it contains less sugar and it is best for diabetic patients which makes it an important addition to a healthy living diet plan. Research has also shown that unripe plantain helps to build and strengthen the bones, muscles and teeth. There are many ways to cook unripe plantain, but I prefer it porridge.

Here comes my recipe for cooking unripe plantain porridge;

  • 3 unripe plantain.
  • 1 smoked fished(can't cook it without fish o, I love fish😁😁)
  • 1 large onion.
  • 2 cubes of maggi seasoning.
  • Pepper to taste( dry of fresh pepper)
  • Salt to taste
  • One full cooking spoon of palm oil.
  • Sliced scent leaf(vegetable)
  • 1 full table spoon of grinded cray fish.

How to prepare it.

  • Wash, peel and cut the plantain into small sizes.
  • Put them in a cooking pot.
  • Add the smoked fish which you should have washed before now.
  • Add sliced onions.
  • Add maggi seasoning.
  • Add the grinded crayfish.
  • Add pepper to taste.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Add palm oil.
  • Then put water to slightly cover the plantain.
  • leave it to cook until the plantain is soft.
  • Add the sliced scent leaf and leave it to boil for 2 mins.
  • Yepee, your unripe plantain porridge is ready. You can stir and serve your delicious meal.

Nutritional content of unripe plantain porridge.

It is a good source of fibre, vitamin B-complex,minerals like magnesium, potassium, manganese and copper. It's a good source of animal protein(from the smoked fish). It is relatively low in carbohydrate and the fibre content helps to reduce cholesterol; for people like me that love to watch my weight.😎😎.

Now, you know all these, why not add plantain porridge to your healthy living diet plan? You will be glad you did.

PS: I dint use photos of my own plantain porridge, because I just realised I needed to make this post after I had finished eating mine.😚😚😁😁. May be,next time. I will!

I've got to disagree with the first paragraph just a little. Not in full on general terms, in full on general terms I do agree, for an active, healthy individual. On occasion it pays to not eat for a while, especially if you have a sedentary desk job and can afford to do it.

I've fasted for five days, and I really should build up to more. I didn't just fast for five days, but I've had the occasional one day for medical test or even just didn't have time to eat and didn't think about it days. I started at two for intentional and built up a day at a time until I got to five and intended to go for more. Fasting - for non-religious health reasons (no reason you can't combine religious reasons into this), can actually do the body some good. I've read some of the Bragg writings, and while I do think a significant part of that was an effort to sell books and hawk the apple-cider vinegar, there is some truth to it. The body cleans itself out during a fast. I need to go for more than five days personally - I never did hit the big clean out, but I did hit some impressive gut clean out at day four. I won't detail that. I was building up my fast time during my last job which was sedentary, and at about day four I did have a few dizzy spells. It's important not to jump in and go long term with the first one, build up in small fast a month apart. My current job has me working out in the sun moving heavy stuff on occasion - not the time to fast.

I am a type II diabetic, which is part of why I've done the fast. I've read that fasting long enough can cause the pancreas to heal itself. I never did fast long enough to do that, but I will say for weeks after coming off of a fast my blood sugar was better. It did weird things during the fast - often staying rather high especially at first, but it would even out over time.

Back to the Bragg stuff - my old coworkers got me into the Bragg stuff. I will tell you based on self experimentation, coupled with the hear-say of a coworkers sister who had gestational diabetes and at least one other diabetic coworker, taking a shot of apple-cider vinegar will lower your blood sugar by quite a few points quickly. When I have trouble keeping it down I use a shot-glass and down some of the stuff. I hate it. I hate it with a passion, I've tried mixing it with water and drinking it slowly - which did me a lot of good - but it just makes the whole glass of water taste horrible. The shot glass makes it over with quickly.

As for your recipe - I love fish. I think think I'm going to share this with my wife to see if I can get her to make it. She loves to experiment with things like this. I have to say - I leave near Cajun country just by being in Houston, on top of that I make semi-frequent trips to deep in the heart of Louisiana, not as frequently as I used to, but I still get there, and I don't think I've heard of grounded crayfish. I'll have to ask mom about it - they've lived there since 2000, meaning I didn't grow up there but they have a feel of it now.

Thanks for sharing, sorry for thread-jacking.

Lol. May be crayfish is not popular in your country. But it's popular here in Nigeria. As for the 'grounded', it should be 'grinded' and not 'grounded'. It was a mistake, I will fix it.

Oh, it's super popular in my country - especially along the Gulf Coast where I live. In Louisiana the crayfish (pronounced and often spelled crawfish to the locals) is practically the state animal. Pictures of the things are on most of the advertising in Louisiana, even in advertising not related to food, I've just never seen/heard of it being ground. The most popular way to eat crayfish in this area - especially in a party / group setting is to boil them whole with Cajun spices and some small red potatoes and corn thrown in maybe some sausage or vegetables also. The part of the city I've recently moved to is a cultural mixing ground. There are quite a few Africa centric grocery stores to cater to the immigrant population of the area. I may have to stop by and look for it some day.

Wow. That's nice. I have never ate them whole. Just prefer to grind them and use it for my meals!

It does look like a healthy food.
Thanks for sharing the recipe!!

You are welcome dear.

I was wondering what plantain is until I googled it, it actually looks like a kind of banana. There are so much ingredients and food that I yet to try. Thanks for sharing :D

You should try it out. It's really nice. Thanks for coming around!

Never heard of plantain so this is interesting to me. Now I know what it is 😊

Yeah. It's very common here in Nigeria. May be it's not very common in your country. Thanks for stopping by ma'am!

Yummy yummy food. I can't wait to prepare this by next week
