Hi There Steemians :)
The boys and I had a fun time together, doing dry meal-prepping, using beans and grains, to stock up in our pantry.
Meal prepping is always fun especially when my laziness greets me (which is quite often hahaha) and I am having a hard time to decide what to cook for dinner (mostly, since for lunch, there is often only just me on school and work days). I would just grab one of the jar and cook from there, you know.
Usually I would do it myself, but since it's Summer break, boys at home, they always want to help this and that, thinking whatever I do is fun, in the sense that am playing with my food lol So they want to "help".
We prepared 10 jars of soup and stew mixes using whatever beans and grains I had in the drawer and we came up with these following mixes.
I say EASY as I do not like too much time spent in the kitchen, so with any of these mixes, you can just add broth, dry or fresh mushroom, bouillon cube of your choice, water or coconut milk or nut milk, fresh veggies, dry or fresh herbs of your choice, protein of your choice, and that's it. Then you can just adjust the seasoning, like garlic powder and black pepper and whatnot, you know.
Yesterday was cold here, only about +17 C, rained most of the day, so we used one of them jar and made this following stew that my 5 year old really liked. So winning, I'd say :)
Now, before you continue reading, I have to mention that I have an Instant Pot. This magical pot (hahah) allows you to cook your beans even without soaking them first, so that's a plus for me, and it makes it easier when you feel like bean soup, no need to soak them for hours, just rinse them, drop them into the pot with whatever you wish, click soup and that's it!
To prepare all these mixes, I listed what I used bellow the picture :) Per jar is good for at least 9 c of soup, while for stew about 5 c. This will be depending on the broth/water/milk and fresh veggies and whatnot.
- mason jars
- dry beans
- grains
- spaghetti or pasta
- mixed dried veggies (dehydrated)
- TVP (textured vegetable protein)
Here are the 10 mixes we prepared!
- 1/2 c white quinoa
- 1/2 Romano beans
- 1/2 c yellow split peas
- 1/2 black turtle beans
- 2 tbsp of mixed dry veggies (dehydrated veggies)
- 3/4 c barley
- 1 c red kidney beans
- 1/4 c dehydrated veggies
- 1/2 c Red Japonica rice
- 1/2 c yellow split peas
- 1/4 c great Northern beans
- 1/4 c dried veggies
- 1/2 c great Northern beans
- 1/2 c pinto beans
- 1/4 c black turtle beans
- 1/4 c red kidney beans
- 2 tbsp dehydrated veggies
- 1/4 c broken pasta
This was our dinner last night
- 1/2 c white quinoa
- 1/4 c red chili beans
- 1/2 c TVP
- 1/4 c dehydrated veggies
- 1/2 c broken pasta
- 1/2 c TVP
- 1/4 c great Northern beans
- 1/4 c pinto beans
- 1/4 c white quinoa
- 1/2 c red kidney beans
For number 7, this is to be prepared as Hungarian yellow split peas stew (sargaborso fozelek):
- 1 c yellow split peas
- 1/4 c dehydrated veggies
For number 8, am planning to add fresh colorful bell pepper:
- 1/2 c chili beans
- 1/4 c barley
- 1/4 c great Northern beans
- 1/4 c yellow split peas
- 1/4 c dehydrated veggies
For number 9, gonna add canned corn and peas:
- 1/2 c Red Japonica rice
- 1/4 c great Northern beans
- 1/4 c pinto beans
- 1/4 c barley
- 1/4 c yellow split peas
For number 10:
- 1/2 c great Northern beans
- 1/4 c Romano beans
- 1/4 c black turtle beans
- 1/4 c red kidney beans
- 1/4 c broken pasta
- 1/4 c pinto beans
- 2 tbsp dehydrated veggies
Will be sharing each soup and stew once cooked, in near future :D
Thanks for looking and see you around!

Those soup and stew mixes in the jars look incredible, even they aren't in the soup yet)
Awesome these are like amazing tasty versions of Pot Noodle in the UK. That’s really not giving your beans creations enough credit - but they are kind of similar. Loving the variety of beans and pulses you use - I’m sure these are super tasty !COFFEEA

we have cup noodle here lol
What a wonderful post! And a great idea!
thanks!
can I buy lambo with this token??????
You can find the community announcement on Discord :) and it has also been shared on our FB Page and Twitter feed.
thank you!
It looks nice to keep on a shelf. Sadly I don't have a magic pot so I cannot do anything but beans unless I want to sorting after which isn't my idea of a pleasant afternoon.
Posted using Partiko Android
you dont have to sort them out. just prep meal the dry beans, while the dry veggies etc can be added later.
empty the beans into a pot, rinse and soak, then cook ;-)
but also, get an instant pot, its Canadian :D
Mmmmm... beans and pasta go SO well together. I have loved the pairing since I was a very young child. But I love beans with other things, and of course, just beans alone. "The magical fruit!" :)
my husband is crazy on bean soup and stew. the Hungarian consume them a lot. thanks to living in Hungary tho, to date, I gag to lentils. ate too much while living there hahaha
Ok why didnt i thinking that!so you just put it in a jar and trow it in a pan and add water and you Have soup?? I only know it for cake and breakfast ingredients. So gonna try this
what???? you're teasing me. surely the Dutch have beans soup or other dishes with beans lol
Yes we have cans in the supermarket but this looks so much greater

thank you!
You make this look so easy!
But really, this is a great way to prep for meals.
it IS easy, come on now ;-) well....it took time this time when I prepped them as the boys made a mess everywhere lol
Thanks for sharing! Wonderful ideas for meals.
thanks for visiting!
What a wonderful idea @thekitchenfairy. Do you dehydrate all of the veggies as well? I haven't tried that but will now, excellent for travel too. I wish I had done that when my kids were young and I was working full time. That instant pot is the best ever! Too bad the climate here is just too warm for soups and stews, lol
aaah did I not mention dry beans? I have to scroll and edit, maybe.
they are all dry beans :)
its hot here too. I still prepped them as dry goodies last pretty good in shelf lives and our Winter is only 98 days away hahahah wait....Halloween is 98 days, right? I think so, anyways our Winter starts in October, and that is only some weeks away :)
Great practical ideas. Even aas decoration these jars are just perfect.
The magic pot helps, for sure. for regular mortals, to combine beans and pasta (for instance) may be a bit more complicated, cooking one first the other last and so on.
yes, the good thing about Instant Pot, food comes out perfect. I love using it much :)
I'm all for anything that makes meal prep easier, and this is an awesome idea! Very well done, @thekitchenfairy and...
thanks, Traci :)
I love this, I really hadn't thought of preparing beans so, I always prepare them separately, I think I'll try, I love to cook but I don't like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and this is just great!
sometimes I do prepare them separately, but then the final soup would also a single flavor soup :)
Awesome! I find this kind of thing super calming 💕
I don’t prep dry like this - I’ll normally make two soups or similar in a weekend and then freeze into portions, this is great for defrosting on a week night
Steem on Kitchen Queen
sometimes I do that, but some soups just would change in texture after defrosted, not appetizing at all for the boys, and plus, our freezer is packed with tempeh (fermented beans) and fruity ice sticks hahahah
They all look pretty, but I like number one the best
thanks Wales :)
Nice to be prepared for days when you don't want to think too much about what to cook, all ready to cook up a healthy broth or two there @thekitchenfairy
yes indeed, thats the plan :D
what an amazing idea @thekitchenfairy.
thanks! :)
Wow! Way to go Mama! I wish I could cook now, but it is out of the question except for what I can make with my kettle and boiling water. The insta-pot is the best thing ever. Lucky you :)
yes, indeed its awesome, from cooking, stir frying, frying, pressure cooking, slow cooking, and even baking cake and yogurt.
why only kettle and boiling water, Sharon :( that makes me sad :(
The place I live now has flat-mates. Two of them are people I call the "Trash Boys." They cook a lot and leave their open food waste in the kitchen sink for days, and heavy pots and pans full of food and grease on the stove. And all their stuff on the counter. I tried to deal with it, but gave up.
They do not care if the landlord tells them to take out the trash and we have bugs and lizards and a bad small in there. When I tried to get them to stop on our shared texting, the reply was that "for an old lady, you are acting very childish."
So I just stopped using the kitchen at all a few months ago. I eat what I can make with boiling water in my room or get takeaway mostly.
This is a really idea.
I'm going to try this for my husband since he only boils ABC soup for the kids
do the Malaysians consume a lot of beans for dishes?
Indonesians do, but mainly red beans for the soup, while other beans are for tempeh, crackers, cakes/cookies, or ice drink. sometimes we use mung beans in soup too tho
Well.. in Malaysia because we have mix races and cultures, it's hard to say if our soups have lots of beans.
But beans is definitely a big part of our lives
This makes me want to get an instant pot. Anything to save me time in the kitchen! Nice post.
get it, you wont regret it :D
where abouts are you? Amazon can always send it to you :P
I'm in New York. I'm sure a store has it. I;m just a very lazy cook, too lazy even for that! Nearly forty years working in professional kitchens. blech. I like reading about other people's cooking but could live without ever having to cook again. But I do. I cook a LOT. So this could be the appliance of my dreams.
It was a very touching idea of yours to upvote all those PHCers.
aaah! WALMART then ;)
Funny that Instant Pot is Canadian, but we always get them from the US. Apart cheaper for the pot, their mixer is only available in the USA. We got our pot from Amazon, but for the mixer we got it from Walmart in San Diego lol
Oooh! a chef! nice to meet you. We havent chat before, I think? I just returned from 3 weeks being away, so I have not greeted new members, yet. Did I miss greeting you? Welcome to PHC!
I can only give 0.1 cent should I want to support plenty, sadly. Otherwise I would have given more, but there are so many awesome blogs, and giving more than 15-25% would drain my VP and I wont be able to vote if so. So...yeah, can only give as low as 0.1 cent, shamefully :-/

A brilliant idea indeed my friend.
It looks so attractive in those jars and healthy to boot.
Bookmarked of course.
The only thing we need now is to find a "magic" instant pot.
Blessings!
get it from Amazon :)
Wow, that looks like a rice cooker. I have a top of the line one that has many features (it speaks and has sound effects, lol), maybe it does instant beans too. I also have a stovetop pressure cooker but I try to avoid using it.
Soup it up and vote it up for a fuller stock.
thanks Julian :)
Where can I buy a couple of those boys to help me around the house. 😁 Great ideas with easy to prepare meals @thekitchenfairy. 👍👍

Walmart and Amazon for sure :)
much like crockpot, Instant Pot does have a smaller size than mine. they also have a blender by the way. pretty powerful :)
That is so innovative! Have heard more about meal prep and not about soup prep ((:
at Christmas time, there are tons of other meal prep in jars :) i love meal prepping in jars :)
We store beans and noddles and everything separately. I'm surprised by seeing you put different types in one pot. Do that serve any purpose, I mean can it help to keep things good if I store these ways?
Love your writing style.
you never eat mixed beans? that is interesting.
different beans have different vits and nutrition, which am sure you know this. so by mixing them, you would get more vits and more nutrition, and they are delish to be mixed in some cooking :D
dry goods are good for years btw. but storing like is for meal prepping, which means, when you need them, you dont have to search the ingredients one by one, just drop them into a pot, add additions of your preference, and you are good to go
We doesn't eat beans that much. But yeah, we cook different lentils sometimes. But when it comes to storage we never mix.
But I understand it really can be a handy way to mix and prepare.
Thanks for letting me know.

@thekitchenfairy - what a great idea! I bet the boys had fun with it too. You gave me some inspirations from those combinations. I've been thinking about an InstantPot - and Walmart had them on sale today, I should have picked one up.
yes, next time, do grab an IP. sooo many goodies can be made with it :D
Howdy kitchenfairy! This is a brilliant idea. You must be as smart as you look!
These are all so beautiful! They can decorate your kitchen until you’re ready to cook them.
yes indeed, much like pickled chilies and whatnot. so pretty in jars/bottles :)
Fast way to kill the hunger and very decorative too....

indeed!
These look amazing @thekitchenfairy. I have a lot of it on hand already. YAY
bet you can prepare more awesome combinations. i only had what i had, so they are not too, too colorful lol
This was so cool, I am copycatting your idea! I used to mix the beans together, but, this totally rocks it!
Thank you so much!!!
