I love this! School should be what you love and what your talents are best suited to. Dont get me wrong, you also want to know the basics of reading, writing and maths, but that can be taught in various ways throughout childhood.
My daughter goes to gymnastics, which she's not the best at, because she's not the build for it. However, there was a girl who was talented and was in the elite training squad. I overheard her mum telling someone that the school basically told her she had to stop the training hours that went into any school time and homework time, because her dyslexia meant she was behind. To me, dyslexia is something she will always live with and will learn to work with. She's never going to be the same as children without it, no matter how much extra work she's made to put into it. However, gymnastics was her strength and she could potentially have made something of it had they not stopped her. To me they told that girl and her mother that she wasn't allowed to be anything and she didn't fit in their boxes!
