'How many do you want dad', she asked indicating the cookies.
'Round' he replied
'Round is a shape dad' she said, concern evident in her voice; he’d been behaving rather strangely lately.
The barrage of tests, doctors, pills, prodding and poking which followed culminated in that fateful day and the two of them sitting in the doctor’s airless office. The diagnosis was dementia, something she thought at the time that her father did not understand, eliciting from him as it did, no response at all.
And yet that evening as she cooked his meal, he climbed from a chair onto the window sill and launched himself through the window, 20 feet to the street below.

You just made me cry!!! My heart goes out to that poor man and his daughter! So many have been given a diagnosis that rips into them and it is heartbreaking to know that suicide is a choice that they made.

I'm the prompt deliverer for Marianne today.

Visit, comment, prompt and indeed very kind vote all received with thanks.

This went from sad to heartbreaking in like 5 seconds. The way the intensity in your stories change within seconds... amazing

I only do sad and heartbreaking. I've yet to find my happy place:)
Thanks as always for your support.

Have a grandfather with dementia! First six lines hit how a conversation goes on a bad day perfectly! It’s sad to see a loved one slowly drifting away from themselves

It sure is. Thanks for reading.

Sad and beautifully written. Like life, your story has a beginning and an end. That part of my writing I struggle with. Sorry I had very little to upvote. It's hard for me not to vote, so it's taking a bit to build up.

No worries! All sweet comments gratefully received.

Another wonderful TRUE story from Ms Weirdy. I remember that day very well.

Thanks sweetie.

Oh my heart! Wow!

What a wonderful compliment in just 4 words.

OK, that's a scary story!

Thanks so much for all the support but I think I've drained quite enough of your voting power for at least a week;)

Geez, what an ending!

Great reading 📖

Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate your support.

I sure hope that it is not a true story!!! So sad. and getting dementia is certainly one of my nightmare.

A tad of poetic licence but 90% true.
Thanks for reading.

I've just read this and your last fifty word story. You make powerful stories with few words. Amazing.

Why thank you very much kind sir. It is very sweet of you to say so.

Oh my goodness, that was unexpected! That poor woman (not to mention her poor father!)

Cheers! Thanks a lot for reading.

When I first read the prompt in the 2nd sentence... I thought it was a cute way to incorporate it into your story. Then I read further and realized this was not cute...but tragic. Thank you so much for sharing

I thought today's prompt was pretty difficult! It'd be great if you checked out my post =) let me know your thoughts in the comments
