The Last Day on the Beach - Day 144 :5 Minute Freewrite

The Last Day on the Beach

He lathered her back with intricate care. It looked like he was frosting a cake for all the time and attention that he was giving to his job. She was a beautiful woman and had very pale skin. Her face peeked below a wide-brimmed hat.

He cared very much for her wanted to make sure that her skin did not get burned by the damaging sun rays.

She looked over her shoulder and smiled at him. She was lucky to have found this man after her second failed marriage. She's not quite sure how she got so fortunate, but here he was watching out for her, even when she really wasn't thinking about the damage of the sun.

He plopped down in the sand on a long beach towel and took a sip of bottled water, then handed the uncapped bottle to her and she took a long cool drink.

The radio played pop songs and she hummed along. Here they were in the Dominican Republic on a quiet beach. She didn't know how it got much better.

Suddenly there was a loud noise to the right of the beach and people started running and screaming. The man jumped up and grabbed her hand.

"Come on!" he said, worry furrowing his brow. She struggled to her feet and grabbed her purse and wrapped her wrap around her, grasping her sandals in one of her hands and off they ran.

"Stop!" said the police "don't go anywhere!"

They looked deeply in each other's eyes and turned to face the angry policeman.

"Hand me your wallet and your purse," commanded the man in choppy English.

Her husband quickly reached in to his shorts and pulled out his wallet, what was left of their travel money. He slowly extended his hand towards the scowing, burly looking policeman.

Her kind husband's mind was racing, how would he get himself and his beautiful wife out of the situation?

Their flight was due to fly out of the airport tomorrow. Would they make it? The policeman slapped cuffs on both of their wrists and marched them over towards a parked car on the roadside by the beach. The vacation they had dreamed for and saved for now came crashing at their feet.

I definitely want to add to this story myself to see how they navigate this unexpected false arrest! Thank you for reading and commenting!

What an ending!!! Corrupt police!!!

Ohh- i started off so jealous for her - being spoilt in the sun! Not to the end with that twist though! Great freewrite- thanks!

Thanks so much! I received a lot of encouragement on this! I may indeed revisit this. Thank you!

Hmmm, nice imagery
And i definitely did not see the end coming(amazing plot twist)

Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate the comment! Followed.

Thank you for reading! That twists not even up on me.

What did they do?

I am thinking nothing. The police are so corrupt there, this is common.

From heaven to hell in a flash! Please don't leave us hanging. I want more! : )

I want to write more. The past two days have been brutal. I hope my head levels off so I can!

Damn! Those botox injections aren't working? I am so sorry and I will pray that your head recovers quickly! Hugs!

One day at a time <3 Thanks for the kind words.

Yup, one day at a time. Take care of yourself! : )

hugs! you, too.

I'm hoping for a happy ending ;) Dominican Republic sounds so perfect right now :)

I've never gone to the Dominican Republic, but my girlfriend did. They are very corrupt there and this kind of thing could happen. Thanks for reading.

And for a second I thought we were getting a happy ending :(. Sounds like that guy might have been in a shady business!

In my mind he did not seem to be a bad person. I can't say that that wouldn't be a good twist, though. But he seems so loving and so concerned about her. This is something that I would like to revisit.

Great twist, looking forward to seeing where you go with this now....

Thank you! I love how the Freewrites just take on a life of their own.

Yes, me too, you just don't know where they will take you sometimes... I usually start out with a vague idea of where I want to go, and sometimes I end up someplace else entirely, with a funny ending for example.. It's great fun taking part most days

Me too, this started with just him lathering the sunscreen and off it went! Thanks for reading and commenting.

Oh dear, now I'm dying to know what happened next. I do hope they made it. Really interesting use of the prompt, I'd say.
Are you going to write a follow-up? i hope so...

Anyhow, I'm in charge of delivering the latest prompt today so here ya go: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-145-5-minute-freewrite-tuesday-prompt-deodorize

Thank you so much for reading and for delivering the prompt. I would like to revisit this story. And I'm glad that you like the twist! It pretty much wrote itself.

This story cries out for more. You have captured my attention. Nice freewrite!

I'm really glad that you enjoyed it! I'm having so much fun doing the stories but I really do need to tackle one again.
