Hello! It’s been a while since my last post, but now that I’m back home from school I’ll be posting more often. Sharing my stories and reading yours is something I’ve really missed these last months, so it’ll be nice to get back to it. 😊
Today, in the oppression of a sweltering heat wave, I thought it might be nice to post an old freewrite I did away from Steemit. I love oceans, and decided to let my mind muse for about ten minutes with my keyboard about exploring one.
Cool and clear, the water calm, I belong here in this world. Gently gliding, flying. Little waves shimmer above, with shafts of light softly peering in. I swish and travel deeper, over delicate plants sprouting from the sand. Their tendrils sway in the ocean breeze, tiny fish darting in their midst. I twirl and soar towards brighter blue, near the shine where dolphins play, of foam and light and sky. Flicking forward I spot the edge, a chasm low and wide. Stopping, sinking, diving deep with caution on my side. Things are colder, darker here, I can’t see very far. Looking back, the light’s still there, but much farther than before. The mystery of this chilly depth thrills but gives me pause. Something moves in the cloudy space below. Ascending up to warmer light, I feel the familiar calm. But glancing at the deep is still exciting. I spin and travel along the corals and with creatures of the precipice, before returning to the waters of home.

I imagined being a mermaid there, but I suppose it could work for a variety of fishy creatures. Reading it over now, a few months after writing it, I can see how it’s almost a blend of poetry and prose. I don’t know if it’d be better in a poetry format, but who says prose can’t be poetic, eh?
here! I’m really curious to see your endings. Also, I wrote the prompt for this week’s Finish the Story contest over at @bananafish, so be sure to check it out
Also also, I’m still settling into being home (moving back to the USA from the UK could be its own post), but I’m hoping to get a schedule together for posting here, like maybe one script a week, plus a lot of freewrites. I’m going to be putting a lot of time into my art website and book, and although I’m still a bit overprotective of the latter you can expect some posts about those in the future as well.
Thanks for reading!
