I'm a big fan, but haven't had time to start watching the new TV season yet. I read the books first, so I'm always a little frustrated when they make changes, as I pretty much always prefer the original version, although some of the changes are understandable given the limitations of film. My biggest objection to the show is I feel they really weakened the characters of Arya and Jon, who are my favorites. Arya isn't as logical and deadly, and Jon is often downright whiny on the show. They did do a fantastic job of capturing Tyrion's personality though.
Arya's story from the books is incredibly powerful. When she is trying to survive at Harrenhal, I could feel the fear coming through the pages.
