My Top 10 Games of All time!

in #gaming7 years ago

With 2017 almost half-way through, I thought I would document my all-time favourite games as of right now as a nice little time-stamp of my preferences. This year hasn't especially been a terrific one in terms of games, so I feel like I will be visiting some classics, some old-gold games in this list that I feel you guys should play, if you already haven't.

half_life_4-wallpaper-1920x1080.jpg

Finally, this list is completely subjective, your one is highly likely to be different from mine. Without further ado, lets jump right in.

10.) GEARS OF WAR 2

Before I was a true blue PC gamer, Xbox was my jam, and this was easily one of my favourite games to jam to. Everything from the endless gore, dark atmosphere and ragdoll physics (and chainsaw machine guns, can’t forget those) instantly hooked me. The Horde mode in Gears 2 is by far my favourite as of so far, hectic, challenging, and responsible for many good memories. While another game on this list introduced me to Xbox, this was certainly one of my favourite games to play, and like many games on this list, it still holds up very well.

9.) TERRARIA

When you combine pixel art, with open world, exploration, crafting, building, looting, and multiplayer all into one game, you get Terraria. Often considered to be a parallel to Minecraft, I have always believed Terraria sits in a league of its own. Variety is the spice of life in Terraria, no two playthroughs feel the same, and with such a huge range of items and enemies and secrets to find, it is one of those games I have always struggled to put down once I start playing it. When you aren’t distracted by the beautiful design of the game, there is so much fun to be had.

8.) CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2

This was where I believe the COD games peaked, and while the series has always held a special place in my heart, none of the games nailed quite as well as MW2. Even with the lack of survival mode the multiplayer was bang on and got me through numerous of days of studying when I needed to let off steam. However, the feature that got this game on the list, was it’s perfect spec ops mode. I remember working with my older brother to three star every mission making for some of the best (and most rage inducing) times ever. While the Black Ops games are certainly great, I wonder if we will ever see a COD game as great as this.

7.) TOWERFALL

Only way I can sum this game up: best couch co-op ever. Simple to learn but difficult to master, this game certainly took me by surprise by showing me how fun it is to shoot your significant other in the head with an arrow, whether same teams or not. Towerfall is 2D pixel art, archer combat at it’s best, and one of the best, funnest, and funniest games to play with friends ever made. Take it from me, I have never laughed so hard while playing a game.

6.) ROCKET LEAGUE

It’s turbo charged cars playing soccer, literally. While it took me a while to buy this game, when I did I was instantly hooked. The chaotic and fast paced nature of the game is pure enjoyment, and the thrill of scoring a goal is something quite unlike any other game I’ve ever played. Also, local co-op and turbo induced flying majestically like an eagle, nuff said.

5.) LEFT 4 DEAD 2

Zombie killing madness at it’s finest. I had always seen great things said about Left 4 dead, but hadn’t actually played it till last year, and oh boy was I missing out. With a friend, it can make for some of the intense and hilarious moments possible in a video game. The selection of special zombies mixes up the combat and makes it unpredictable and exciting, making team work essential to succeed. Also, the wide variety of mods available adds some extra silliness and enjoyment to a game that is already awesome.

4.) HALO 3

Where do I even start with this, Halo 3 was the catalyst that got me to move from my handheld gaming roots, to more console gaming. The campaign had some of the most memorable levels ever (I mean ‘The Covenant’ was one of the best levels in halo history) and was just an absolute blast to play through, especially with a friend. On legendary difficulty, the game is punishing and challenging as it should be. Of course, the multiplayer was awesome, and thankfully there is a PC port that works well so I can continue to play it today.

3.) DIABLO 3

Now while Diablo 3 didn’t have the greatest launch, what with the auction house and error 43, it has grown and developed to be one of the best games I’ve ever played, and my favourite action RPG. It is addictive loot grinding at its finest, if I’m not careful I can play this game for hours upon hours without even noticing, just slaying demon after demon in the hope of the next orange dropping. Particularly since the addition of the Reaper of Souls expansion, and the numerous updates and new features that continue to be added today, it has been an endless joy to play.

2.) POKÉMON GOLD AND SILVER

The game that got me into gaming. I can still remember ‘borrowing’ my older brothers’ Gameboy to be able to play this game, and I fell in love, and what a game to start it off with. Pokémon Gold and Silver were for me the pinnacle of the franchise, the Johto region was interesting, the Pokémon designs were on point, and connecting it to the Kanto region for me made the world feel more connected. The highlight though has to be the final battle with Red on Mt. Silver, getting the opportunity to fight the protagonist of the first game was legendary.

1.) HALF-LIFE 2

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. In this case, it was the right game in the right place. Maybe I have a special place in my heart for mute protagonists, but I don’t think anyone can deny that Half-life 2 is a masterpiece. It feels challenging without feeling unfair. The variety of weapons and open world means that there is always more than one option. The story through the eyes of Gordon Freeman is engaging, interesting, and exhilarating. I could go on about all the great things about it, but I think the best way to sum it up would be timeless. Even today, I love to pick it up and play through it again and again, and for good reason. Without a doubt, Half-life 2 is my favourite game I’ve ever played.

But these are just my favourite games, what about you? What are some of the games that left you with some of your best gaming memories? And what games just have you coming back no matter how many times you play the? Let me know in the comments. I’ll be sure to update this list in a year, but until then, stay beautiful 🙂

My favorite Games are Gran Turismo, ProEvolutionSoccer, Two Worlds, ForzaMotorsport, CointerStrikeSource, ClashofClans...... ✌️

That's a pretty good line up you've got there! I see you're a fan of sporty/competitive games (from Motorsports to regular sports) :D

Thank you for information!

Half life 2 is a fair pick for number one. I did spend a good amount of time on it as well.
With so many great games that have come out in my lifetime it would be difficult to narrow it down.
In mine I might have:
Faster than light
One of the cod games, not sure which
Roller coaster tycoon
Skyrim
Assassins Creed 2
Maybe champions of norrath (a lot like Diablo but the EverQuest setting, really fun back in the day with friends)
Even if I spent the time to really make a list, by the end I'd just be questioning it lol

That's a pretty good list! I definitely loved playing FTL, Skyrim and AC2. It definitely was a struggle making this list and there were some pretty awesome games that, just in the end didn't make the cut, like Skyrim, Battlefield BC 2, Crawl and a whole bunch of others.

Nice, of all time, but i'm getting older, it started in a Luna park, then Commodore 64.

Pac-man
International Karate
Dungeons and Dragons, RPG, Eye of the Beholder
Call of Duty
Silent service, Submarine simulator
Monkey island
Planet side 2
Rome Total War
Pirates
Ports of Call

Hard the name the best!
PS Racinggames ofcourse also good for hours and Civ.

Dude yes! Planet Side 2 was awesome, (except the servers are kind of dead now-a-days), Rome Total War was a major contender for this list, although unfortunately got beaten by the fun I had playing with friends in Gears of War 2. I have played 8 of the games on your list and can say that your list is pretty excellent classics list.

The witcher is all I need.

The Witcher is an amazing series, with the Witcher 3 definitely being a huge contender for this list :P

I've played so many good games in the last 14 years that I really couldn't make a sincere list. I would type some games, remember another one, modifiy the list, remember again another one, modify again, etc...

Starting from Dying Light's atmosphere and ending with the Shadow of Mordor combat...naah...fuck this... I can't.

Hell yeah! Dying Light is pretty damn awesome, the level of detail in that game is amazing. Haven't played too much Shadow of Mordor, I definitely need to play a bit more (Its on my list of games to play)

Dude, Shadow of Mordor's combat system it's just ADDICTING! I don't know but somehow, that game transfers directly to you the power of the character. And that was confirmed by a friend who came to me after 5 or 6 days and told me this:
"dude... since you told me about that game, I spend at least one hour a day to slain fucking Uruks like a maniac. It feels so damn good!"

Haha that is brilliant, well it just went on sale on Steam, and I picked up a copy (as per your recommendation), so I'm going to be having a lot of fun myself "slaying Uruks like a maniac" :D

Oh, I can't wait for your thoughts. I am currently playing Witcher 3... Which is a very good game (although I don't understand the love for Gwent. For me it's practically a bad implementation of HearthStone lol)...

The only game it came close to the feelings that Shadow of Mordor gave me regarding the combat system is Black Desert (believe it or not lol).

I was a huge Sierra On-Line fan myself, so I go a bit wild with the King's Quest series (not the last few b/c they were too far away from the happy center); and the Quest for Glory (1-3 at least).

The one I loved playing but couldn't figure out how to finish was a game from Interplay called Future Wars. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and story.

That's pretty awesome man! I've heard many good things about the older King's Quest games, although I've never played them myself.

I recommend them to anyone that enjoys fantasy, fairy tales, PC adventure games, and good puns. If you do, look for all the Easter Eggs that are hidden within, like reading the titles of fictional books and reading the messages on tombstones. They almost always make me laugh with their humor and creativity.

Awesome, thank you so much for the recommendation! It definitely looks like a game series that I'm going to have to try :D

One game from Lucasart - Indiana Jones 4: Fate of Atlantis could be on your list

I don't think I ever actually played any of the Indiana Jones series.

Where's the LEGEND OF ZELDA??

Ocarina of time would be my #11 :P

Gears 2, MWF3 and Halo 3 where all great games, All three of these franchises started going down hill from there I think.

Yeah I think so too man, it's a little disappointing to be honest, the fun I had playing Halo 3 and Gears 2 probably cannot be beat by the newer titles unfortunately

Half Life 2 and Portal are my favourites!

They are definitely amazing games! Have you played Portal 2 Co-op?

I'm not a big fan of the modern warfare style COD, it was the first COD game that got me into it. I have a feeling that COD WW2 is going to be my favourite game of all time. It's all about the atmosphere and immersive experience.

COD World at War was pretty awesome, but I just feel that MW2 played a lot 'smoother' in terms of both the multiplayer and singleplayer.

Cool! My favorite top ten games are...
-World of Warcraft
-The Legend of Zelda series
-Super Smash Bros Brawl/Wii u
-Pokemon series
-Heroes of the Storm
-Hearthstone
-Lego the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings
-Sims franchise
-Animal Crossing series
-Warcraft series
Basically I like fantasy games

-Warcraft series
-Heroes of the Storm
-Hearthstone
-World of Warcraft
-The Legend of Zelda series
-Super Smash Bros Brawl/Wii u

Love these games, great list @tauriel! Blizzard certainly are artists when it comes to fantasy games.

Every time i see that Carlsberg commercial with the " probably the best beer in the world" i always think "Blizzard, probably the best game company in the world", haha funky weed thoughts...

Haha, I totally agree.Their games are epic!

Dude that's a great list! Hearthstone is pretty dope, same with SSBB (Loved playing that game with friends at High school). Fantasy games are a pretty awesome genre and usually incorporate a bunch of elements which I enjoy (RPG, Free roam, sandbox, etc)

I take it you aren't much of an RPG guy ;)

Oh no, I definitely love a good RPG, I wish I could cram a couple of my favorite RPGs onto this list, however there were just too many great games that came before the experiences of the RPGs, usually because I played most of these games with friends which really amplified the levels of enjoyment.

Halo 3 hands down is my Number one!! nice list tho. i agree on many

Absolutely, Have you played Eldewrito? (The PC port of Halo 3)

The sweet sweet memories of playing GoW 2 with my girlfriend, smoking weed and severing locust in half with a chainsaw.

God damn it i need to invent a time machine.

That sounds pretty awesome man! :D

Also just had to note, Rocket League is a awesome one to have one the list also, overall great list and nice post, you certainly gained a follower and upvote from me dude!

Thanks mate :) I really appreciate it

You got some very strange combinations in your list :) like that. Never seen Pokémon and hl on a same list :)

I thought the same o_o , but as he said, this is his fav games :D

But what he said about Diablo 3: "...it has been an endless joy to play. " puh...thats a bit extreme. D3 is good, but sooner or later you realize you do the same thing again and again...its always the same and thats why i dont waste any time on this game anymore :D

That is a good point, but I usually do not play a single game for too long, so maybe that is why I was able to play the game to the end without feeling the 'endless grind and repetition'. But yeah I can see why Dungeon crawlers can be quite repetitive if played for prolonged periods, Nevertheless I haven't touched Diablo 3 in a while either.

Thanks man :) Yeah I play quite a diverse range of games (due to friends having similar but slightly different tastes in genres), and also these games have spanned the ages for me, Pokemon as a child, Half-Life as a Teen, Rocket League, Towerfall as an Adult. So yeah it is quite a range of games but I think two of my favorite series of ALL Time would be Half-Life Series and Pokemon series, with Halo being a close 3rd. (In terms of series rather than individual games)

Pokemon Gold/Silver at 2! hahah great list all great games. I would probably put COD 4 MW in there over MW2 tho...

For me, I feel I had more fun playing MW2, even though MW is a great game I just felt the immersion was much more intense in MW2. Oh yeah definitely, to this day I love Pokemon games and Gold/Silver have to be my favorite of all.

Great list, though i'm not to keen on console games i must admit Halo 3 was great. Half-life 2 was truly great... to bad Half-life 3 seems like a pipe dream

Pipe dream, Pipe bomb in L4D2, 3 is between 4 and 2, HL3 Confirmed. Seriously though, I really hope HL3 becomes a thing at some point soon.

Well, I have Super Mario World, Pokemon blue/red and Battlefield 1 on the top ^_^

Definitely man, Although I am more of a fan of Super Mario 64, but that is just my opinion :P

Didn't have a N64, so never played the Mario.. i am gonna play it though ;D

Halo 3 is the best FPS =D

Hands down!

No Final Fantasy 7?

It was definitely at the back of my mind, many-a-time while writing this list, However it didn't get put in due to the sheer fun I've had playing with friends (and solo) in the games listed, unfortunately whilst I had a massive amount of fun playing FFVII, it just wasn't to the level of those other games.

MWF3 and Halo 3 where all great games =)

I like some of your favorites, my serious games top:

HALF LIFE 2
THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM
Grand Theft Auto 5
Against: one that many brings great number of memories
DOOM: This is a classic from the old school
WORLD OF WARCRAFT: A time consuming but entertaining game
CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WAR 2: from my point of view the best of the saga
Uncharted: The 4 Games Are Amazing
The last of us
BATTLEFIELD 4

But a list of 10 games will never be enough...

Exactly! I struggled quite a bit with this list, just due to the sheer number of awesome games that could be put in, there are many I had to knock off (like Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time, FFVII, Battlefield), just due to the experiences I've had with the aforementioned games being slightly better in specific ways.

Of course the list of good games is so broad that it is very difficult to decide (not to say impossible), reduce it to 10 and decide is complicated. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Diablo III, Overwatch and the continuous list ... These are very good games in aspects of history, graphics, sound, optimization to say Some.

Nice collection but i only Call of duty and Pokemon go! i am your new follower so i can see more stuff here about gaming i hope you will not stop sharing such an quality content :)

Thank you very much man! I intend to keep it up, so keep an eye out :D

hmm my favorite games ever..

Primal Rage
Golden Axe II
Sonic 2
Pokémon Silver
Final Fantasy 7
Harvest Moon 64
Guild Wars 2
Monster Hunter Generations
Fire Emblem Series
Digimon World
Mario Party

Dude those are some awesome games! Sonic, Harvest moon were some classics of my childhood, GW2 is a game I've played recently and loved, I have yet to play Monster Hunter but I hear it's amazing. FFVII is brilliant fantastic and it was a tough call to leave it off this list!

Monster Hunter World is coming out next year for PS4, Xbox, and PC. It looks amazing, you should check it out.

I definitely will man!

COD and half-life but no cs?

CS is a pretty great game, I mainly had fun in CS1.6, again it's one of those games that really comes down to the wire when I made the list :P, it was a tough call but one that I had to make.

Good pick man!!
So, any reason "The Last of Us" did not make it onto this list? :(

Thank you very much man! Well there were definitely a few games that I was on the fence about, and making a list of only 10 awesome games is very tricky, there were many games that simply didn't make the cut, and the fact that "The Last of Us" is a 'PS4 only game' was definitely one of the strongest reasons it struck out.

Ah, makes sense man!! It is tricky to only choose 10 hey. Thanks for sharing 😁

Thank you very much man! :D

I agree with a lot of game in your countdown. There's some I haven't played. It's going on my list :)

Thanks mate, I'm sure if our lists are similar then you'll enjoy some of the games that you haven't tried yet :)

LOVE the list
I always see some of these same game on a lot of top players lists. Does anyone enjoy survival games like Don't starve?

Thank you very much! I have definitely played a bit of Don't starve (Usually Don't Starve Together) with some friends, and it definitely is a pretty cool game (despite the steeper learning curve)

A little too heavy on newer games, but an interesting list nonetheless.

Thank you, yeah I definitely think so, I believe the multiplayer/co-op games had a lot of sway (and thus bias toward newer games), simply due to the amount of fun I've had playing with friends as opposed to playing alone.

That'a a good list you got!

We love the post, but you missed us
Steempower Angrybirds

These are mine. 8-10 are subject to change.

  1. Quake 3 /Live
  2. Starcraft 2
  3. Deus Ex
  4. Pokemon Yellow
  5. Life Is Strange
  6. System Shock 2
  7. Half-Life
  8. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
  9. Fahrenheit
  10. Fallout

Dude that's a pretty impressive list you've got yourself! Those games are all pretty awesome, and I know I've probably played at least 20 hours on each of the games above, if not several more!

Missed out Runescape pal

Lots of great games on the list! I wasn't too much of a fan for Diablo 3 and would prefer Diablo 2 but it was still a great game none the less :)

Thanks mate! Yeah Diablo 2 was definitely an awesome game with a much larger skill tree. I feel that it was a bit more of a learning curve and hence I didn't find it as fun and simple and hence I chose Diablo 3 over Diablo 2 as I feel I had more fun (and more hours spent) playing Diablo 3 :D

That's not a bad list mate !

Mine would be (not in a particular order, it would be too difficult to choose lol) :

  1. Fable: The lost chapters
  2. Secret of Mana
  3. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
  4. Pokemon Yellow
  5. Super Mario 64
  6. The Uncharted series
  7. Half-Life 2
  8. Life is Strange
  9. Portal 1 & 2
  10. The Legend of Zelda: OOT

and much much more !

LONG LIFE TO SQUARE ENIX & NAUGHTY DOG ! Both are my fav studios ♥

great vid -

I like LOL very much, you should try XD
This is a character from the game that i drawed, an example that this game have much attractive characters, and playing, are better :D

https://steemit.com/drawing/@marram/drawing-shyvana-the-daughter-of-the-dragon

This year I replayed max payne and max payne 2 and those are great games and they still look good.

Far cry blood dragon had some great animations, fun story and great setting but the game is too short.

Cities skylines had some unique gameplay with traffic management and it is cheap.

eg

@pfunk could you !cheetah ban this guy, he spams 'Check out my post' comments everywhere.
