It's that time of year.....sit back and relax, crack open a Bud(weiser) because there are Buds Buds everywhere!!! (does anyone actually drink budweiser anymore?)
It's blooming time here in growing zone 6b and here is a bud on my tree peony. Tree peonies can be a little tricky, but mostly, just DO NOT cut them back in the spring or you won't have any flowers! If you need to prune, do it right after the blooms have faded. The tree peony is my first bloom in my garden.
Only 3 flowers this year, but I love them!
They are SO showy!!
Here is a bud from my 'regular' peonies - a mix of dark and light pinks. They probably won't open until the end of May or early June.
All of the buds, getting bigger everyday. Oh my, I see that you can see some stumps in the background here. I had to chop off a couple of 30 yr old arborvitaes - they basically popped out of their holes after the wet snow storms in March/April. I just haven't replaced them yet.
Here is a clematis bud. I think it will be the 4th year of this plant. Remember the saying about clematis...Sleep, Creep and Leap! First year, they grow slowly, 2nd year they creep up a bit, 3rd year the leap into huge vines!!!
Rhododendron 'Roseum' I have a whole corner filled with these. They'll bloom in June and are always magnificent
Hydrangea macrophylla This hydrangea blooms on old wood from the prior year. So make sure not to cut off the stalks in the fall or the early spring! My hydrangea will have a mix of blue and pink.
And lastly are the azaleas! Some are already blooming, but these double blooming 'carpet' azaleas have a few more days

I guess I was imagining a can of Bud. At my age, I've upgraded to bottles ;-)
They bloom here too. I saw some buds down the street and took a couple of shots with my phone.
I was in NJ a few years back and thought it a beautiful state.
It truly is The Garden State (except for the drive up/down the NJ Turnpike around exit 13/14....choke, cough cough!)

I have a ton of these red perennial tulips that multiply each year.
I prefer the perennial tulips for just that reason,no need to keep replanting and I love the single color for impact.
These really get going in May, yet just half an hour down the road they get started in April,so when your garden does its thing depends on where you are located.
Exactly. best to know what garden zone you are in before planting something new.
And The key to your tulips coming back is 2 things: first, cut off the stem once the flower petals fall and 2, leave the leaves for at least 6 weeks so that they soak up the energy from the sun to feed the bulb below.

Beautiful. That is such a good tip on the hydrangeas. We use to make that mistake and wonder why ours didn't bloom. And you can never have enough azaleas. Too bad they don't bloom all summer.
I know! My sister just sent me a photo of her garden and her lawn helper chopped her hydrangea to the ground! No blue blooms for another year! So sad....and maddening!
Yes we had a large crew of landscapers one spring and I couldn't keep an eye on all of them. One of them did the same thing to our bush before I could give him instructions. Now I'll only use a landscaper with a small crew or better yet do most of it myself.
I do ALL my own pruning of every shrub plus my garden. For many years we never used a lawn serivce since my husband liked to do it and we would send out our sons (when they lived at home as teenagers) and I liked to mow too ;0)
We are getting older...and busier!...in our increasing years so got a lawn service last summer! As long as they don't weed whack any clematis vines or touch any shrubs!!
