I see you are in California, so i think they should grow well for you. I just popped out and took this shot with my iPhone. A few are on the ground, but I hope these will grow to maturity!
Aagh! I haven't had those yet! I sometimes see a bird perched on a branch and munching away. Sure enough, when i check there is a half-eaten fig. I don't mind feeding the birds, though. Last year something a lot bigger got at them - either a bear or a raccoon. They wiped the whole crop out and bent the tree almost to the ground!

That is a beautiful papaya tree. I would love the fruit and shade from a beauty like that!
We'll see if they ripen and if i can pick them before the birds get at them. They love to eat my figs!
Birds can be a challenge ... hang foil in the trees (or other shiny things) to discourage all but the crows.
Not sure what to do if you get fig beetles though.
