Heh.
Seriously, though, I suppose women can lose much of their appeal if you get to be at the receiving end of or witness some of their worst behaviours. I wonder what goes on in the minds of those Japanese young men. In the West, most men who've lost appetite for relationships tend to be older men who've been put through the wringer in divorce court.

For sure, and the same will be true the other way around.
Blow up dolls?
My bro doesn't want kids, I think he's seen my case and decided partly based on this.
Yes, but the assumption is that men are and always will be interested in landing a woman no matter what i.e. that men's higher sex drive will always trump their sense of self-interest or instinct for self-preservation no matter how bad the legal or social context in which relationships take place.
Regular sex with the same person easily leads to a relationship. Relationships lead to co-habitation. Co-habitation leads to marriage or may constitute a common law marriage in itself. Marriage typically leads to children. People can have all kinds of relationships but, very often, if you're with a woman who sees you as a good catch, there will be some degree of pressure to take the relationship to the next level, and a sense of wasting her time if you have no intention of taking things further.
I suspect many Japanese young men have seen up close the grind the lives of their fathers or older brothers are. They're always at work or commuting, they give all their money to their wives who they rarely even see and when they retire, they end up spending their days with a stranger accustomed to living a life of her own and who sometimes can't stand the intruder who now occupies the living room all day. (Divorce at retirement is a thing in Japan.) There may be something else afoot, though. Many young Japanese women eschew relationships and marriage these days. It could be that the extremely high population density is messing with people's instincts somehow, too.
Well, there you have it.
