There's New Blood in The Cryptosphere: Girl Gone Crypto But Loser Crypto Boy Trolls Have Shut Her Down

in #girlgonecrypto8 years ago (edited)

girlgonecrypto.jpg

Today, like all days recently, the first thing I do is head into the Dash Nation slack to find out what’s been happening.

I checked into the Women of Dash channel and Tao of Satoshi had tagged me in a new post about a video by this person named Girl Gone Crypto. She has just started to vlog about cryptocurrencies and I have to admit, my first thought was, OMG:

Cryptocurrency is about to go mainstream.

As I filtered through the various comments on her latest video (which has now been taken down), with random dudes trying to convince Girl Gone Crypto to take off her clothes and perform in front of sexcams for Bitcoin, I was struck again by the reality that it’s still SUPER RARE to find a young woman speaking about her cryptocurrency journeys. It’s my belief that this will change and pretty soon, too. Before I blather on about other things swarming around in my head, see the Girl Gone Crypto for yourself.

You’ll probably feel inspired to make your own video after seeing hers:

I can’t help but feel a lot of empathy for those young girls about to enter this space online. No wonder women have been hesitant so far to vlog about cryptocurrency. Only the bravest ones will venture into it. Me, well, I’m more like a Crypto Mama, a highly unfu*kable writer-artist, so I don’t worry about all the loser trolls and black-hearted assholes that I might come across online. Actually, I’ve already come across them in Steemit. They tried to bring me down, insult and doxx me simply because I am female. They did doxx me, in fact. But in the end, they lost and they slithered back into their miserable hate-filled cages, disappearing into their physical voids.

Hatred always loses except when it doesn't

I’ve been through enough shit already, enough for several lifetimes, so a few fu*ktard losers online can’t really touch me. I’ve had a YouTube channel since 2008 so I’ve heard it all before.

This brings me to my next issue: I also saw different people all vying to get Girl Gone Crypto into their particular coin. She politely declined becoming committed to Dash or any other coin because she stated:

I still have a lot more to learn before i commit to anything. thank you for your kind words ! :) -Girl Gone Crypto

For anyone interested in how to form a successful social movement, pay attention……

You don’t ask someone to come for dinner the second you meet them. The entire world operates on relationships and the slow building of them. Asking someone to join your club before getting to know them won’t really work out too well. Your results will be mediocre at best.

The way to really get things moving in a good direction is to support other people’s work you admire, share their ideas, ask them real questions, complement them, offer them a way to get to know you and your community better. Being friendly in a detached way will get you to the moon. Being like a puppy dog and hounding people the second you meet them only works with certain extroverted personalities. Shy people have a knee-jerk reaction to it. It’s not the most effective way. I know because I’ve been failing at this for years, making these puppy dog mistakes. Being detached and not in need of anything is the best way. People can sense desperation! Be cool, and watch how people will start to fall at your feet.

This is the scenario you want to cultivate. No one likes a desperate person.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter if Girl Gone Crypto decides eventually to work for the a particular coin community or not. I am simply excited to find another young woman who is spreading her love and joy of cryptocurrencies to the YouTube world. In her short time, she has been uber successful so far, way more successful than me. The number of views her videos have is astounding. She would be smart to continue making YouTube videos and sharing this bright new world of digital currencies with a brand new audience. She will likely inspire many more people in the near future to make YouTube videos about Dash, ETH and BTC and take their crypto journey to the next level.

Feel free to join us in the Dash Nation slack: https://dash-nation-invite.herokuapp.com/ We have our own channel, Women of Dash, which is place women can feel comfortable in. We don't tolerate any loser trolls. We are one of the few cryptocurrency communities that is tolerant and accepting of other digital coins and projects. Our philosophy basically boils down to this:

We are all stronger together. Picking fights is child’s play. We like to play, but not with each other’s frailties.

I was geniunely happy to find her video and I made my own shoutout video to Girl Gone Crypto:

SAD UPDATE:

I had written this article before Girl Gone Crypto decided to make two of her videos private because of the hate, sexual harassment and negative energy from the crypto boy fucktards. It's a sad day for me personally, because the loser men who find pleasure in harassing women have won.......again. They have successfully scared off another woman from YouTube. And if any of you attack her and say she can't handle it, I'm going to smack you. It's not fun realizing that there are entire packs of fucked up guys just waiting to pounce onto your next video. It's a disturbing scenario. It's one of the biggest reasons the crypto space hasn't gone mainstream. It sucks. The statement above, "Hatred Always Loses" is not accurate. Hatred prevents progress is more accurate. I feel sick right now.

Girl Gone Crypto represents all of us who have decided to get out on the internet, but who find the experience so toxic that it's like, "No thanks, I'll pass." Anyone who is confused about what it's like to be a woman on the internet, here's your example. This happens everyday to women. It's disturbing that I saw this one unfold before my very eyes. Am I mad? Yes, mad as hell. What can I do about it? Let women know that they have a voice and protection in Dash Nation and now Steemit (this wasn't always the case though). Harassment is not tolerated in Dash, not even in the main Dash Talk channel, and Tao of Satoshi doesn't let people get away with harassment. He has no qualms about banning people who get off on destroying others. To be honest, that's why I went into Dash. That is the real reason. The last time I was in a steemit.chat, someone called me a cunt. That was my last hurrah. Steemit is a lot different from the early days, but what me and a bunch of other women and some men went through was a form of abuse. Why? Because we were visible on the internet. What was my crime? My genitals. We're in a pretty pathetic state in 2017. You would have thought things had gotten more advanced. Not.

Not today.

SOLUTIONS:

I think we should all go to her channel and introduce Steemit and welcome her here. If we show that good people are here waiting for her, I think we can make a difference. And maybe we can comment on her videos too, to show our support. I'm giving the Steem that this generates to her: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLaj5RT1D8pH2Q61YOKIjng

Let's do this.

Thanks for reading,
Stellabelle

Great idea!

Let's do this! But I want everyone to be careful, DON'T ADVERTISE STEEMIT! Just be friendly and supportive. I should write a handbook for idiots: How To Treat Other Human Beings

You should add that above (not advertising). Haha, unfortunately true. My spouse actually deals with a lot of similar stuff when he posts stuff on YouTube (like instructional videos on how to decorate Christmas trees) because he is pretty noticeably gay. "Stop frolicking around" comes to mind as one of the comments. Unfortunately, the haters are always going to hate.

I think in a weird way it means you are doing something right because usually haters think it's somehow going to make them relevant for a whopping five seconds. Especially with sort of underrepped pops on here, the battle is real so is why I carry my axe :P In all seriousness there are some vile people who if more women banded together and did a bit of punchback the bastards would go run to their mom's basement and cry into their Waifu pillow

A link to his channel, please? Thanks.

Oh :D

You are a lucky man, Tim. You are also likely aware of it, but just in case :)

Indeed I am :) Thanks!

Why shouldn't we advertise steemit?

because she is in a place needing support not a billboard.

have you gone to her channel yet?

No, I don't have access on my phone.

People say "grow a set" when they think another person should be more courageous. This usually comes from a cowardly concealed place behind a key-board where they feel free to wield damaging comments directed towards others without consequences. They risk nothing while the other person who has been "vagina tough" and put themselves out on the net ends up taking one negative pounding after another, like a piranha feeding frenzy. "Grow a set" oh please, "grow a vagina", then we'll talk.
I'm going right now to her channel to support her. Balls do not give anyone the right to be oppressive to freedom.

Yes, the more people who show up and support her, the more likely she will continue making videos and also think positively about us here.

I sent her a message through YouTube, to encourage her to keep going and inviting her to join Steemit where there are others, just like her making an effort to learn about cryptocurrencies.

this situation with the harassment could potentially highlight another potential of such blockchain platforms like Steemit, that being the dynamics of the identity component...

anyone is free to parade around on YouTube, opening a psuedo-account to troll away... I think eventually, once the identity component really gets strongly integrated into the next evolution of platforms, it'll go a long ways towards deterring from such harassment and trolling, because the account reputations would get knocked down to nothing and leave a permanent mark - either providing serious reasons to NOT troll, or self-censor their own shit comments due to negative feedback.

may be a ways away, but just sayin'...

Well written article, as well as the responses. I have heard about a lot of trolling from different YouTube channels I subscribe to. I had no idea this crap has turned into sexual harassment. Glad there are venues like Women of Dash to help network together. Keep speaking out about the BS.

I have introduced my Granddaughter and eventually my daughter to Steemit and the crypto world. The only consolation is that they are strong women who don’t take crap like this lightly. Not only do women need to continue to speak out and bring this to the forefront, but all of us men need to also stand up to the BS when seeing it going on.

The crytpo-world has the opportunity to overcome all types of harassment. I love the fact that people from all walks of life, from all over the world, of all races, as well as men and women can interact in a civil manner... so for those A__holes that are so childish please go somewhere else and stop "F-ing" with women of crypto.. or for that matter anyone. Again, stellabelle, wonderful and thought provoking article... I have not been on steemit as much as I like because of an overloaded work schedule, but was glad to sign in today and have the opportunity to read this article.

one guy in the comments on her video admitted that he jacked off to her video. She commented with something like "cool". Not sure how I'd respond to that.

I had no idea this crap has turned into sexual harassment.

I find this hard to believe. Where have you been?

Pardon my ignorance of not knowing everything that is happening on the Internet. You seem to have taken a supportive post and twisted it around. Not sure why this is, but it is not my problem. The question is build support for an issue or push people away. :o(

It's not fun realizing that there are entire packs of f#$ked up [12 year old guys and girls] just waiting to pounce onto your next video. It's a disturbing scenario.

"Haters" could be considered a stepping stone to success. Our old YouTube joke was, "You haven't really "made" it til you've got yourself a fine collection of haters!" And to quote you, "Being friendly in a detached way will get you to the moon." Seek out the good ones and focus your energy on them. Deflect and Ignore the time-sucking energy vampire haters.

The last time I was in a steemit.chat, someone called me a c%$t. That was my last hurrah.

I was also "harassed" early on by some bozo in steem.chat named Walden - maybe he's the same pea brain who was trying to be "friends" with you by calling you names. 12 year old boys like to hit girls when they like them, and 12 year old girls sometimes do it too when they like a boy. They mostly just don't know any better. But they do seem to know more curse words and slurs than all of us combined! As for the older haters, maybe that's their demented idea of "connecting" with someone, especially if it garners an actual response.

The real problem on YouTube is management and their agendas. We finally gave up after so many of our YouTube videos were repeatedly demonetized or even knocked down completely for being either "too explicit" or "inappropriate" without any real logic or rationale. Yet, the users who would make comments such as "wish you got aids and died in the WTC" rarely seemed to get banned or suspended.

At the end of the day, it's YouTube's management team who like, sets the, like, tone and, like, the direction... YouTube CEO: Don't interrupt me with your microaggressions!

And just check out a few of the nasty comments on this video I posted back in 2008. These "slurs" are probably some of the less "offensive" ones we received. And yes, I'm a guy, or should I say I'm a lifeform who identifies as a human with a dangle between my angle!

One thing I did want to add, some of the worst misogyny we did experience on YouTube were from Middle Easterners on some of Michelle's cocktail videos. They wrote that her actions were "Haram" (Arabic term meaning "forbidden"). They called her a "pig infidel", and said she should be "gutted". I could go on but it only gets worse. YouTube did nothing about it, cuz, well you know, Islam is the "religion of peace". It seems in general many of them define "peace" in a very different way than we do...

On the subject of YouTube's management "failings", while they're busy "dealing" with users that don't quite suit their "agenda"...

Last month, YouTube lost 5 percent of its top advertisers in the US and Canada following a global uproar over its placement of ads from big companies alongside videos created by neo-Nazis and ISIS supporters.

Speaking at the YouTube Brandcast event for advertisers on Thursday, YouTube boss Susan Wojcicki said, “We apologize for letting some of you down. We [like] can, and we will, [like] do better.”

NYPost Link: YouTube loses major advertisers over offensive content

"Haters" could be considered a stepping stone to success.

Yeah, I think you're correct. But if you're a new person just wanting to connect with people and are not familiar with mass harassment....and those dudes commenting did take up a bulk of the responses, it's just not worth it. I totally get her and at one point on Steemit when I had AN ACTUAL STALKER, with no means to get rid of him, I thought about quitting Steemit. This shit is bad.

Great post.
Girl Gone Crypto will defiantly feel welcomed here.
Away from those trolls

Pretty good.

Excellent post @ stellabelle! I'm so fucking tired of guys who believe they can destroy a woman's life or dreams just because they are idiots. Steemit, sadly is kinda full of these dudes, though. I like your post a lot but honestly I don't think inviting her to steemit will fix this situation, because probably a lot of those assholes who were trolling her are already a part of steemit...Well this is my opinion though, and I believe they harass us because we are women, it's pretty pathetic.

Well we have a tool: the flag. It doesn't do much good when the troll is a whale though. Are the whale flag wars mostly over? I haven't seen much drama recently. There are lots of assholes on here, sure, but you can always mute them, and then flag the crap out of them too. I've used the mute button on several dickheads.

I'm fucking sick of it too, that's why it's time to take action.

Awful! Hope we can make a difference together. Linked your shout out to my last post! ;)

Loved your post my friend @stellabelle and hope more girls want to go crypto. It is a hard row to hoe no matter the sex and the people we think are doing things to us on the internet more often than not turn out to be not what we thought. For example I just did a search on images of men and women and in it were a vast number of homosexual kissing pictures. Yet the search was not for Men and Men but Men and Women. Searches are often like this, filled with unrelated material and are internet interactions, filled with those we do not want. Great post though and I just thought, not to be mean - Gee what if you are not a woman, girl. I have encountered so many men pretending to be women and so many women pretending to be men it can skew the mind. What not just be who we say we are? Again, not an accusation or anything just something observed so many times that sometimes we throw up our hands in disgust

I'm definitely a woman. I had a baby, dude.

Definitely a man but my wife didn't have a baby either. I did think you a woman, I was just sayin'

Omg ! I just saw this post .... if I know anybody who could keep her, it's YOU !! La Stella Belle !!!! Those boys need to be shut up! Did she reply ? @stellabelle ??

I've observed a lot of mental illness amongst the crypto culture. It comes with a market that's 95% men, unfortunately.

I'll have to keep up with this story.

@shayne

my question is this, and I'll pay you if you can research it: what is wrong with crypto men who troll? Don't they realize they are preventing progress?

This is actually something that @bitcoinmeister and I have chatted about because we both get trolls on our YouTube channels, and they're usually the same trolls.

It's clear that many of them are mentally ill. Either admittedly or by deduction. Some of them make 5 different accounts and argue with themselves. Or they'll outright attack and then apologize to get attention. @bitcoinmeister has a policy now where people who troll too much get put on a "troll list" and have to pay a fine if they want Adam to pay attention to them again... and they pay it.

Another factor is probably social isolation. A lot of these guys are, you know... computer guys. They don't get out much and they have a different worldview than balanced people who have friends, families, and get outside often. Social norms are not normal for them.

Also, probably autism in many cases.

interesting: "a policy now where people who troll too much get put on a "troll list" and have to pay a fine if they want Adam to pay attention to them again... and they pay it."
That is hilarious! What kind of harassment do you guys get?
Do you get told to take off your clothes and perform sex acts for Bitcoin?
Just sayin'

............. I have, actually.

It's not like an ongoing thing, so I don't even compare lol

I like where this is going @stellabelle

whoever you are, I love you. :)

It doesn't have to be men, we are also seeing people regardless of gender getting paid to delay adoption. We don't know who types, why does it even have to be human? Hasn't enough data been gathered for some to have knowledge about what is a turn off? It's good that you are letting us know about this.

You know what I find strange: i have almost zero trolls on my YouTube channel. It's like the trolls know something:

"I think I'll just leave that Stella bitch alone."

Maybe it's my age or the fact that I don't give a crap what trolls think....being older has its advantages....

lol for sure. When you really don't care what people think, it's almost like a super power. Maturity.

Congratulations @stellabelle!

WOW! Cool ... great to see you again @stellabelle - lovin' the vids! Me and @craig-grant are not worthy :))

I'm here like every other day, so....................
I know you're not worthy.

I love you too @stellabelle - you Dashian rascal you!!<3

Craig-grant has taken to trolling me, so he's definitely showing his unworthiness.

Don't take it personally @stellabelle - he ignores me and all my comments now too. Nothing personal. He has blocked chakras I think ... according to @gordoncole :) https://steemit.com/steemit/@gordoncole/craig-grant-i-sense-a-sacral-chakra-blockage-in-this-man-it-scares-me

I don't care that much. It just shows what's going on in his mind, not mine.

The more women we can get into this space, the better.
Its important not to ignore the most important part of the population!

Thank you for your perseverance. I think that it is good to remember that a lot of this negativity on crypto forums, youtube etc. is coming from paid schills...imo.
Women's power and independence is a huge threat to the political system. I'm male and supporting you endeavour.

these are not paid shills. These are dicks with no brain.

Well, they might have a brain in their head but is not AWAKENED yet.

;p

I just went to her channel gave her some words of encouragement. Thanks Stella for letting us know about this.

Isn't she your competitor?

Can't compare apples to oranges.

well stated my dear.
I'm a Crypto Mama, I love everyone who is not a fucktard.

Hahaha I'm with you on that

I don't believe in your thinking.
I embrace everyone and all different crypto projects.
You think in a narrow, monoculture way that prevents progress. I was raised to love diversity.

You're actually spot on. I'm exactly like that as I believe I should be the centre of whatever field I'm presently in.

well, that thinking doesn't really yield massive societal changes and abundance.

Yeah its quite stifling towards everyone save myself.

your psychology is very interesting. I suspect many feel the same way. I see the interconnectedness in the world and operate accordingly.

From her video and her curiosity into ETH as well, I have no doubt she will join Steemit soon, hope she does not have any sign up issues...

There is currently a 4-5 day wait to sign up new users. Apparently, we feel that is acceptable.

btw, I tagged @ned Scott on Linkedin with your latest article.
I think it might be fixed now though, i just checked.....
Have someone new try it out.

Thanks Stellabelle and thank you for bringing this young lady to our attention.

Any other way to speed up the process?

(FB, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, Skype, YouTube)

I am offering to assist... I think they are trying to cut down on scammers, by processing the new users manually.

No wonder women have been hesitant so far to vlog about cryptocurrency.

How is it any different than women trying to vlog or stream in general? Go spend 10 minutes on Twitch's IRL section or anywhere else and you will see trolls constantly. I don't understand why you feel "crypto trolls" are much worse than regular trolls, to be really honest, the trolls on here have been much less in amounts and degree than what you see on other platforms.

Its a common issue, boys will be boys when they see women/girl vloggers/streamers knowing they are protected by anonymity. That's a big reason Twitch is filled with moderators (who are incentivized only by having a colored username in chat or being able to post different smileys) and a reason why Youtube started their "Youtube Heroes" thing where some reputable users with history of taking down inappropriate content are getting more power to do so and protect vloggers and viewers from reading troll stuff.

Here we have a downvote/flag system to fight that and the incentives for trolls to continue being trolls are a lot lower knowing they won't earn anything from it and their accounts (which are becoming harder to game and create many) will lose their reputation.

I would bet that the number of crypto nerd trolls who can't communicate with women is fairly high.
I have not done any in-depth research on this troll issue in other communities. To me, coming from Medium, the trolls in crypto seem to be fairly saturated. If you have data, please provide it.

There is plenty, google it. Here are a few articles of the top of my head.

http://time.com/4457110/internet-trolls/

Twitter has it the worst:

Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's top lawyer, has admitted that the company has been "inexcusably slow" in fighting off the kind of vicious online abuse we saw in the Gamergate scandal, in which video game fans send rape and death threats to women who suggested that some games featured sexist portrayals of women.

On the same day, a study of 134,000 abusive social media mentions showed that 88% of them occur on Twitter. Only a tiny fraction of online abuse happens on Facebook or other social media.

http://www.businessinsider.com/statistics-on-twitter-abuse-rape-death-threats-and-trolls-2015-4?r=UK&IR=T&IR=T

This isn't something that happens to women only either, sometimes it gets really dangerous for the streamers.

Not to mention the "trend" lately of SWATing streamers live and calling local places where they are located and getting them in trouble in many ways. This streamer that I have been following for quite a while lately was banned on Twitch because his viewers kept trolling him, the latest was sending a SWAT team to the airplane he was boarding.

The internet is full of this. In my eyes this platform is one of the safest ones from troll abuse currently and I hope it remains that way.

thanks for the information.

You are welcome.

I also checked out the video you were referring to and if you feel those comments were that bad, I think you haven't seen much of the internet in general.

I would bet that the number of crypto nerd trolls who can't communicate with women is fairly high.

Why do you keep bringing crypto into it? How are nerd trolls that are into crypto different than nerd trolls who are into something else?

I found this post so undervalued...

not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.

I was not. I have seen some posts getting a few hundreds of dollars just because the author was able to put some words together but not saying too much. Some other ones just because who wrote it.

Your post is about some real problem which all of us should be aware of. There is a huge difference between saying someone that he or she is beautiful or even gorgeous and asking to perform on the camera because of that and not to express what he or she thinks about whatever.

We are at a gross level in humanity. We are sort of on the brink of a lot of things. This is a problem that has very wide reaching ramifications. By making women afraid constantly, they have fewer economic opportunities. We can turn it all around any time now. It's all in our minds.

There is actually a gigantic opportunity for women in crypto and new technologies in general. Check out Amanda B. Johnson ( the Dash representative ). I would not be suprised if she winds up making millions of dollars if she sticks it out a couple of years.

She soooooo looks like that girl from Quantico.

I posted my comments on her channel, but she hasn't responded to them. She has not mentioned coming into Steemit either. Perhaps my method is too over the top.....?

this is awesome im gonna subscribe to her

I was browsing on steemit and for some reason read about this article and watched that youtube video. It seems like your post did the difference there, since the most recent comments are pretty positive. Great initiative! It's great to learn how the steemit community is so supportive
