In the wake of the fiasco of last night, it got me thinking about the reality that programmers are really bad at marketing.
Anyone who has even the remotest amount of common sense can see that the cryptocurrency space is full of tech geeks who don't understand how to communicate effectively with a mainstream audience. Any snake oil salesman knows this, too. True geeks are some of the most intelligent, trusting and gullible people on the planet. Some programmers are on "the spectrum" which means they have Asbergers or other impairments that make it hard for them to read other people. Even if some programmers are not on the spectrum, many just cannot tell good people from bad ones, especially if someone has charisma. Charismatic people have what these super geeks lack: an ability to smooth talk people. I've seen this situation play out, both in my own life and with other super intelligent people who lack good social skills.
Stan, it's time to learn how to market your inventions from the master himself, Elon Musk.
Elon Musk was smart not to invest tons of money into marketing Tesla because his fans ended up doing the legwork for him, which yielded better and more powerful results. Now if you have decided you want to go hardcore with a marketing plan, please take a look at this example because Elon Musk knows how to do it right. Take notes.
As you may know, Tesla doesn't advertise on TV. Well, a 5th grader, and a Tesla fan recently wrote Elon Musk a letter with her idea. Remarkably, Elon Musk replied to her.
Her idea was that Tesla invite the public to submit homemade ads for the company and then air the winning commercial on television.
Bria said the winning advertisement should be “something to entertain people and get their attention,” adding that she’s unsure if she would enter the competition herself.
Bria’s dad, Steven, posted on Twitter a letter his daughter wrote to Tesla to ensure the company would see it, and it wasn’t long before Musk personally replied. -ABC News
Here's her original letter to Musk:

And here's the twitter exchange between Musk and her dad:

As you can see Elon Musk understands how to listen to his fans and deliver using crowd-sourcing techniques. Do you think Elon would be caught dead associating with snake oil get-rich quick scamsters who have a checkered past?
Hell no.
Elon has integrity and he respects his inventions more than that. To be completely honest, I am disappointed by your lack of integrity from the Mogul fallout. We are a group of highly intelligent people, and thinking that we all would just eat up that get-rich quick garbage that you have chosen to support is incredibly disturbing. You are obviously an intelligent man with incredible inventions. To think you would throw away integrity in order to get your coins to the moon speaks of your spineless character. I really thought you were a different man. You need to re-think your priorities in life. You need to rise up the greatness of the inventions you've brought forth into the world and partner with respectable people who possess integrity. Doing otherwise will just further degrade your integrity and you'll lose support here. It won't be pretty. We are not a gullible bunch.
And you need to read about Elon Musk who is doing it right.
Copy this idea if you must, send out a challenge to the world. I have some connections, who possess integrity, who are very well-connected to the big names in Los Angeles. I can help you achieve this if you want to live and breathe integrity. Stop the nonsense of aligning yourself with crapcoin snake oil salesmen. You are putting us all at risk. You're threatening the health of this ecosystem that I have been fighting for since last year. The crazy thing is that you could work with amazing people if you decided to do so. By choosing these snakes, you really have lost credibility. It would be so easy to change.

It's in our hands. It always was.
Bjork lyrics:
Look no further
Look no further
Look no further
Creulest almost
Always to ourselves
It mustn't get any better
Off!
It's in our hands
It always was
It's in our hands
In our hands
It's all there
In our hands
It's all there
In our hands
Well
Now aren't we're scaring ourselves
Unnecessarily
Aren't we trying too hard?
'Cause it in our hands
It's in our hands
It's all here
It's great to see how the community dealt with a scam. When there are millions of users we will see far more of this
This is so true, but they could get a marketing team that could effectively sell their inventions.
Disclaimer: I am just a bot trying to be helpful.
thank you. I know! They could afford fu*king SAATCHI & SAATCHI
hell yah: http://saatchi.com/en-us/
hey, how does the twitter bot auto post here? I can't get it to work, because i don't understand how it works. How?
twitter bot watches all of the posts, and to any post that has a twitter link, it makes a reply to it.
I guess it is programmed into the steemit code. Once you post a twitter link, the bot automatically does it job.
As always, straight to the point. You don't hold back when something is not right. Thanks for your efforts in fighting the hucksters and keeping this community going in the right direction.
I really have been doing this since day 1. And I make mistakes too. I am only human after all, but when I make mistakes, I admit it. The Japanese taught me about that. Everyone should live in Japan, or somewhere in Asia to understand how to apologize, and get rid of pride.
Good suggestion. Exhale some of that Western Civlization and gain some perspective. I agree that these two things are fundamentally meant to be different in business. Businesses have R&D (tech) and the "back of the house" (nerds) and the "front" (musk/jobs) or marketing (jobs/musk). I think for STEEMIT to be successful or anything that is meant to drive traffic! Get users! Convert people! To be successful than they need to have a board and it needs to be tested on the approach. I can't code but I can sell shoes. I can sell a car. I can build a PC and understand the terminology. But I can't tan leather or rebuild a transmission. I also can't build a cryptocurrency but I can say why this one is "the one of the future" so "get in asap" to be "ahead of the curve."
There have been and continue to be some amazing things that come out of the Japanese culture, not only the amazing tech but as you rightly point out, how to be a human.
Smart input or in this case smart idea for a good marketing benchmark. Cheers @stellabelle and steem on ;)![](https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://picload.org/image/riogwaow/ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif)
I'm sure Elon would concur...

I found @matttrainer's project specifications:
OK, there is a serious disconnect between true programmers and sales people. It is a gulf most programmers can't span.
Code is truth. Code is beautiful. There are no lies in code. There can be no lies in code. Every instruction is executed exactly as written. There is no fudging.
In sales, it is telling a story. It is getting other people to believe that story. And so many of the people that are good at sales are really good at story telling and often very poor about things like truth.
To a coder, the code itself is what sells it to them. That is all there is. There is no need for anything more.
To a normal person, the code is a black box that even on their best days, they cannot see what makes it work. At best, they see the paint job on the box. And make their purchasing decisions based solely on the paint job.
So, a coder cannot talk to, or even trust, a salesman. There is too much disconnect in their world views.
One of the destroyers of a company, for a coder, is the sales team.
To a coder, the sales team goes out and makes impossible to fulfil promises. And then moves the dead line creepingly forward.
Its like the sales team doesn't understand at all, even though hours were wasted trying to explain it to them.
The gulf is too wide to ask a coder to get on with marketing.
you are also seeing marketing and sales in terms of the old ways.
I worked with an inventor in California. I spent weeks with him, understanding the inventions he created. I got to the point that I realized his fatal flaw: he had no storytellers, no artists working with him. I got him connected with some filmmakers and others who could get his message out. He died before I could really have an impact. But he died with the knowledge that someone cared to tell his story, and to get it out......inventors are really special to me in many ways.
Tesla uses crowd sourcing to tell its story. There's no need to go the sleazy sales route with Steem....what it needs are teachers with integrity, much like what Dash has with Amanda. Also, creating contests from the people who are already here. That's a story telling idea of the present times.
The days of loser snake oil are over.
Yes, the days of loser snake oil are over.
Just like the days of paper fiat currency backed by a gun is over.
Its just not dead yet.
And the new methods haven't laid many paths yet.
I learned to draw because I could never in a million years describe the things in my mind.
Even with drawings, it is still not enough some times.
And, I really dislike salesman like people. So, please understand if I put all that in a box of don't go there.
It is the same with HR. I won't form a company in The USSA because I would need to have an HR department. I hate everything about HR. Even the people that are attracted to those positions.
I'll meet you back here in a few months and we'll all have a good laugh. :)
Are you the Stan she's talking to?
No doubt. :)
Funny, I would say Elon Musk is a scammer. It looks like TPTB keep pumping money for him to lose into the company as long as he supports the political establishment.
A cuck knows no bounds, and Elon is, indeed, a super fucking mega cuck!
following you!
I'm back here after a few Days, and I don't know if I'm laughing, but I'm sure smiling about the appreciation of BitShares lately.
My own opinion on all this, at the moment, is that Matt might have done better with different text in his post here. I believe a marketing principle is to know your audience. I think his copy was written for a different group of people than the ones here. We're generally not impressed with big promises using salesy language. Crypto people seem to like to evaluate the facts and come to their own conclusions.
Stan did say big things were happening, and it now reflects in the BitShares price. Was it due to Matt's involvement? I'm not sure. Maybe Dan's EOS has people excited about BitShares and Steem. Maybe people are finally waking up to what BitSharees and Graphene can do. Maybe its all due to the massive tailwind all cryptos are getting these days, as more people discover this investment space. More likely, in my mind, its some combination of these things, plus others that I haven't heard about.
In any case, it's been a Great 4 days for BitShares investors! Thanks, @stan and the entire BitShares team! :-)

"Elon Musk was smart not to invest tons of money into...Tesla"
Yeah, he just got the taxpayers to handle that for him at their expense. He'd never have gotten the capital in the free market.
Market cap per vehicle:
Tesla = $690,000
GM = $4900
Ford = $6800
Considering Tesla is barely profitable at all, is their value really 100x Ford's, based on per car sold? If you're a US citizen, you're once again having your profits privatized and the risk socialized.
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-musk-subsidies-20150531-story.html
"Elon Musk's growing empire is fueled by $4.9 billion in government subsidies"
If what you're saying is true, then Elon might be the biggest damn parasite in the whole world.
Here is an idea. Let the product sell itself.
well, the hardest part is this: cars are easy because everyone knows what they are. Hardly anyone knows what digital currency is. That's the challenge....but Steemit is social media, the gateway drug to crypto...easy sell.
Sure they do. When you use your debit card you are actually using digital currency aka "US Dollars". But I get what you are saying. ;)
thank you nice post!
very nice post :D
thanks
Who is Stan?
Dan Larimer's father.
And he is also in Steem?
here's his company, that created BitShares: https://cryptonomex.com/
Interesting. Both of them are sharing the same interest in cryptocurrencies.
Thank you.
https://steemit.com/@stan
Elon Musk certainly a great role model! Interesting piece of news in your article, thanks for sharing.
Great. We always talk about crowdFUNDING....but we should not forget that crowdSOURCING ideas is in principle a way more powerful tool.... Brains are worth more than cash.
Well, that´s what life has taught me. Cash disappears if there are no functioning brains around :)
I guess he thought that that joker from yesterday could open up a new potential market of steem users to 'grow the brand' - yuck! I really want my 2 hours back. I've sat thru timeshares presentations that were better and you usually got something back for your time 😉
I knew better than to waste 2 hours of my time.
Uh, I have seen this likely scam with the millions game guy, but what is the connection to @stan and catastrophy?
@stan was and is promoting it. He is working with this guy in Hollywood, apparently.
The information asymmetry here is staggering. Everybody seems to think they know more than the people who are actually in the arena 24x7x365 doing stuff and having actual contact with the real people involved. How arrogant. I've worked with Matt's whole team for over a month. I've heard him straight up disclose his whole checkered life's history to a huge live and on-line audience. I've observed what his team is capable of doing. It's a bunch of all-stars. I've watched him adapt and pivot and overcome obstacles in real time.
And I've watched him come up with the plan he was starting to unveil here.
He's crude and aggressive and creative and vulnerable. All in one package.
I listened to his whole webinar (and several others). He always starts out with a rambling monolog intended to build a relationship with attendees. Then he describes what he's working on at the vision level just like we did when we first described BitShares to the world in 2013. Many pivots later, BitShares was a reality and now holds a record for most daily transactions that is nearly twice as big as Bitcoin and Ethereum combined.
Instead of offering an ICO to raise the necessary funds he offers products he has developed that have real value to the kind of people he hopes to recruit as co-developers. Perhaps joining his team does not appeal to you. That's ok. To each his own. But his software is proven, unlike most other fund raising schemes. Apparently he was casting pearls into the mud in front of you, to be trampled underfoot.
People tend to confuse entrepreneurs with scammers when occasionally a project runs into trouble. Many successful people had a long string of failures before they succeeded. A scam is a deliberate attempt to deceive, not a failed business. But past failures that don't kill you make you stronger and wiser.
Matt's his brilliant vision and powerful team was offered to this community on a silver platter. He will simply do it elsewhere now.
We don't need or want people who went to federal prison for defrauding investors. Matt stole the money out of his fund, recklessly lost it in Vegas and spent it on himself, then fled to Panama. He is a convicted felon, who plead guilty, and shouldn't be allowed near other peoples money ever again.

What a cunt.
Ok, from now on I have officially zero trust in your business skills. I've been skeptical for a long time of your abilities to develop business and lead marketing, but this is the new low.
Simple as that. Blockchain integration into the STEEM platform is that disposable and effortless. It's so worthless to integrate, apparently. Forgive me, but none of that adds up.
I wrote an API client that signs transaction. If I felt offended that people didn't respect me on the platform after writing it, I still wouldn't just walk away. I think my code speaks for itself, so I care less about proving myself with talk. I just let the code stand on its own. But that's just me.
I feel sorry for the developers who (apparently) put up the risk to integrate Matt's game, only to have it thrown away because he's so easily offended.
suggestion of good
Right on. Reminds me of that Feynman quote,
Elon Musk is a modern day super hero. Saving the planet one invention at a time. Once the Tesla semi-truck comes out it's done. https://electrek.co/2017/04/28/tesla-semi-elon-musk-teaser-image-all-electric-truck/
Excellent article. As much as I love a juicy burger, I believe you meant to write Aspergers. 🍔
Excellent post @stellabelle congratulations very nutritious and interesting, I hope you can go through my blog and observe and if you can spread with your followers of the current situation that is living venezuela
And the belle of steemit is showing everyone why she is simply amazing at the keyboard...![N0RmTdX.gif](https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmNj8NxHCLUMxdhXZSaJKKcSwkq22rUXrHCizYA7H8dhbc/N0RmTdX.gif)
What sets steemit apart from other crypto and even other social media is the strong sense of community and value placed on quality content. I personally am not a big fan of trying to draw as much attention as possible as quickly as possible. On the other hand I understand that there is a strong desire among many people here to expand, certainly for those who have the largest stakes. If we remain an insulated community, it will be much harder to maintain the value of steem, so I get why the community needs to grow despite my personal reservations.
But any growth should be in accordance with the values of the community and with an effort to protect the members of that community. That doesn't mean everyone is going to agree about every decision made by the people who get to make those decisions. But Since the community is built around a currency and there are ways to make money here, there are going to be lots more people who come here just trying to make a profit and totally disregard the community aspect. Obviously there needs to be some kind of a safety net and I was glad to see last night that the users basically managed to be that safety net.
I would have actually been happy to hear him out if I felt he was at any way truly invested in the community here. Now saying that I worry that some one watching is formulating a plan to first show interest in the community and then make a pitch with nothing but their own interests in mind.....these are the problems we face in a world so deeply entrenched in the ideas of money and competition but that is the world we live in, so the best we can do is be skeptical when someone comes in and starts making big promises.
Thanks for your voice last night, I was really worried at first because I saw a bunch of whales I trust upvote his post, not sure if it was bots or what but more than just a post of that nature, the fact that it was pulling in $1000 was troubling because it sounded like total BS and was aimed at exploiting the less than noble part of human nature and the pettiness was awful! It was much easier to be vocal seeing that some with more weight in the community were on our side.

Elon Musk has also a strict "no asshole" policy:
It's very important for well-functioning organizations.
This is one of your master pieces !!!!
So beautiful!
That little girl had a great idea! should inspire kids not to underestimate their own pattern recognition ender's game skills that could be fine tuned to look at successful methods from some companies and apply them to other companies which might be TOO BUSY to nitice whata they are missing!
kids can be good at looking for stuff that is missing, wve been training them for years withthose puzzle games, "which of thesethings is not like the other things"
Elon with Tesla took ALL of the same peopl who were Apple fans, who wanted a corporation to deliver the future to them, and he saw how apple was baically failing these fans, even if apple did the right thiing they werent innovating enough even if thats not fair to apple, we humans are hard to please! we want more! an apple didnt deliver with their planned and teased apple car but tesla DID! an tesla created stuff you could buy!
Elon in front of all those people on stage took up where steve jobs left off, and steve jobs and apple got greedy and rested on their laurels, they could have made an apple car and apple fans would have bought it! Appple fans wouldd have oight an apple home, an apple Boat even! if steven jobs told apple fans that the new plan was they were all gonna live on Apple Houseboats, and live off the sea, many of his fans would follow steve jobs out into the sea and spend everthing they had to get their hands on a apple "LifeBoat" yeah thats a good name for that hypothetical; fictional apple product
Anyway tesla really delievered that promise of one company that coul delivr the future to you! SPaceX and Tesla and everthing else elon musk does is just the most coolest shit ever to many people!
Because noone else had thee balls or the brains to pull it offf!
just the idea of a successful electric sports car being used to fund an average consumer electric car, and then being told that this car can be an INVESTMENt because it will be able to rive itself or rent itself out for uber drivers, and then drive itself home to you after someone else rents it out for uber to make you money......its insane...
click on.
Hi! Have you heard about @krwhale? It is similiar with @randowhale. For your information please
