Today’s morning I accidentally ran into this picture on Instagram. I couldn’t stop looking at it. What an incredibly beautiful moment and what a great message!
Immediately, I started laughing but then paused; realizing that behind that cheeky shout out lies a tragic truth.
It’s a trap - and we’ve all gloriously stepped into it!
"No crezcas es una trampa" (Spanish: Don't grow up, it's a trap). Found on Instagram.
It’s A Trap
One of the most characteristic differences between adults and kids is their view on the world.
With age comes seriousness. It comes through responsibility. Suddenly you have to deal with problems that you didn’t have to face when you were younger. That has an impact on your attitude.
Look into the eyes of kids and you look into their heart.
There is no pre-judgement, no doubt, no envy and no lies. There is just the purest and richest form of humanity that one may imagine. There is empathy, kindness, confidence, belief, good will, open-mindedness and SO MUCH LOVE.
Give me back some of that carefreeness of youth!
Let me be impressed by a butterfly, let me dance in the rain, laugh out loud from the bottom of my heart and eat mountains of sweets without regrets.
Source: pinterest.com
Let me be unprejudiced again!
Let me step into that world again and see it for the first time.
When growing older we tend to build a wall around us that impedes anybody to look inside. We care about ourselves and our own outcome (mainly in an economical sense), but don’t look next to us anymore.
The world we’re living in converts us into busy, working, delivering, functional beings. The more time passes by, the more indifferent we become.
But like everything in life our attitude and our perspective is a CHOICE.
Nobody can impede me to dance in the rain.
It’s about not losing that naive view on the world that was given to us with the very first ray of daylight and the very first breath.
It’s still there. It’s inside all of us. We just need to wake it up again.
Thanks for your attention - and don't forget to get dirty today :-)
Marly -
Congratulations @surfermarly!
Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following category:
Again?! Oh wow!!! What a nice move. Thanks a lot!!! It's much appreciated :) Wish you a wonderful weekend!
Looks like you became hit-parade addicted XD
Have a nice wee-end too!
Hahaha, definitely! :-))
What a great message!! I love coming to your page, it is always filled with such positivity, you are a light bringer my friend :)
I may just have a friend of mine make a t-shirt out of that :)
Thanks my dear friend :-)) What a nice compliment!!! I'm happy to spread a bit of my energy here, hehe
Oh yeah please I will have one of these shirts then!!
As humans grow older build more and more limitations due to the fact we owe to obey some rules. This results to limited creativity and a narrow mind.
True story, @kyriacos. Unless you are an artist like @silviabeneforti mentioned previously :)
Thanks for leaving your thoughts!
I am
Great Post, I just realize that I have Grown Up a Little bit in the last year, Now I am much more serious about my life, my career. But remembering what I was a few years ago, I smiled remembering those memories. thanks for posting it. @surfermarly
Thank you, @looftee and you are more than welcome! I guess we all wake up from time to time and realize that we've become very serious. Being surrounded by children helps to do one step back :)
That's Why I love Children.
Oh I love them for uncountable things :)
me too.
It is unfortunate that so many children are taught hate instead of love, prejudice instead of curiosity, fear instead of wonder. Children are some of the strongest beings in our world and yet we must remember that their minds are fragile and easily manipulated.
@surfermarly I am so glad to have found your post! I will strive to keep my childhood in mind. "First star to the left and then on until morning, that's where you'll find Never Never Land"
That's great.
We need not follow the mindset of the world :)
It might have molded our views and lifestyle..but it is indeed a choice to get out of it, once we have seen it is not for us.
So true @immarojas! The only thing we need to do is being consious :)
Have a great day!
The world smells better after the rain :)
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Wise words :) You, too!!
:))
Well said.
thank you. Enjoy the rest of your day :)
Actually, It is night here, But thankyou and you Too.
Enjoy the rest of your evening then :)
and the rest of the week. Cheers!
Cheers to you too.
😍 No crezcas es una trampa! Look into my eyes :)
Hahaha, you've got the perfect answer to everything :D
Really good post and message! I try to be young, even if it kills me.
Seriously, I believe you are correct. Enjoy life with a young heart and the grin of a child.
"Feet on the ground and head in the sky" is my way of living :)
Thanks for your kind words, @paradise-found. Your name is my story!
Have you noticed, our logo photo's are similar!
Sure!!!!! These are the most beautiful colors of all. Pure holiday feeling!! :-))
Absolutely right!! Thanks, you just put a huge smile on my face!!
I was thinking about this earlier: That a child is like watching Buddha. They are born as enlightents beings, and then build walls as you wrote. Walls also build inside our heads, but that are merely illusions. I was feeling quite anxious the other day and I said to myself: What would a child do/think of this situation. I felt better immediately. Thanks for sharing!
Sometimes we need to step out of the problem in order to see that it's much smaller than we actually believed...:-)
Have a great weekend!
Great advice Marly, I always enjoy your point of view because it is so much like my own. My post today has a similar idea, finding joy, having the freedom to dress in a way that makes you feel young and courageous.
Oh that means a lot hearing it from you :-) Thanks for the nice compliment! I'll have a look at your article right now! Enjoy your weekend!!!
Indeed a trap, but one of the most beautiful traps we can experience...
Definitely! :-) Have a great day, Eric.
It certainly reminds me my childhood, in a flash. We all grow up with vulnerabilities in every aspect of our life. But, glancing back to our pristine self in our childhood makes us realize- what have we gotten into? Great article.
....and great comment! Thank you :-))
"But like everything in life our attitude and our perspective is a CHOICE."
The burdens of adulthood, ultimately, are just thoughts/beliefs, and as you say, you can choose to transcend them. I'm a huge advocate of The 3 Principles - which teaches us that our whole experience is thought-created. Once you really 'get' this, life can change dramatically :)
Thanks for stopping by and for sharing the link to the YT video, I'll check it out :-)
Have a great day @septimusmaximus (funny nickname :-)).
You're welcome :) Yeah, there are some great vids on Rudi Kennard's channel - check out the one's with Mara Gleeson, she has a great way of talking about the 3 P's.
Love it Marly! Got to constantly question the micro decisions we face every day regarding whether or not to "grow up". Aim for the curious, the unexplored, keep that joy of living alive, and remember, every minute counts! Cheers, Nik@PT
Thanks for your wise words, @paleotreats! Nicely said.
And thanks for your compliment!!!
Have a fantastic day!!! :-)
Great post Marly and a good advice to make conscious effort to unlock the 'child' inside us and not be so serious everytime letting the responsibilities of adulthood weigh us down
That was nicely said :) Thank you!!!
I agree. Children are great. No reason to disbelieve nor intent to deceive.
Absolutely, and sometimes we can learn more from them than they from us...:)
So true, watching my kids play gives me so much pleasure I can not help but join in from time to time. I think I will join in more often...
I can totally relate. Don't have kids but love to be with the ones of my friends :)
"Don't grow up, it's a trap!" I agree! My grandmother said me "goditela ora che sei piccino" (means " Enjoy everything now that you're a child"). Fortunately, I chose to be an artist and so I can feel me a child every time I want (If I don't think to the bills that I have to pay) :D
Great advices from your grandmother, here! Thanks for sharing them with us :)
Being creative requires to unplug from the rest of the word, which surely comes close to the carefreeness of youth. Excellent paralel!
The best way to express the inner child is to follow our passion and excitement in life!
I couldn't agree more, @matt2525! Thanks for adding your thoughts :)
My pleasure! Have a nice day!! :)
V-true - what you're excited by/passionate about/interested in is incredibly important feedback. Take a look at this short vid:
Love it! Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful posting @surfermarly
Revealing all the dross piled in our heads,
Wake up and smile before leaving your bed.
Solving teenage angst, I have said,
Ignore alien orders before you are dead.
Haha, nicely put together @bilbop! :-) Thank you!!
Thanks @surfermarly Seems I have rhymes coming out lately and found a nice place to share.
Please feel free to share them whenever you want :-)
Thanks for the encouragement @surfermarly :-)
Lovely post! I am working on removing the layers of s**t that I have accumulated throughout my life; layers that have made me numb and unable to experience the world as I once did as a child. You might want to take a look at my latest post from today, which is covering a very similar theme: https://steemit.com/creativity/@irreverent-dan/we-are-infinity
Upvoted, resteemed and followed :)
Thanks for your great support and the insight @irreverent-dan. Of course, I'll have a look at your article! :)
Following back.
Have you heard of the 3 Principles? Most awesome s**t remover by far :)
No @septimusmaximus but I'll take a look :) Thanks!
I am going to play forever! ;)
Awesome write up!
Ha! Me, tooooo! :))
Thanks for your kind words. Isn't it simply beautiful to change perspectives from time to time and appreciate details that we've forgotton to admire during so much time...?
Children nowadays at the age of 3 are able to manage a smartphone already, at that age I was still eating dirt and seeing fairies.
Me, too! And to be honest I completely disagree on that trend. My kids would play in the garden. No smartphones. I'd be a very strict mom in that point :-)
Children have a view of the world that is pure and exciting. Becoming a parent, in part, is an opportunity to experience that purity from a different angle.
upvoted
@shayne
Absolutely. I'm not a mom yet. But I have a lot of friends that have children already. It's so mindblowing to be with them. I enjoy every second of it!
Thanks for stepping by and leaving your comment :)
... and when you change a nappy, you experience poop from a different angle :)
ouch what a great post - if i show you vids of my little one you would have proof.... comparing with vids of her dad lol
Hahaha, I haven't seen a video of you dancing yet, but she kills it :D
Thanks for your nice compliment!
you won't see one of me - remember i am a DJ - btw need volunteers now for #danceweekend
I'll be dancing on Tenerife (neighbour island) where I travel to meet some friends, wooop wooop! Party post to come soon :-))
Wow! This made my day! Great post surfermarly. As we move though this turbulent life we are systematically programmed into robotic entities. This is what I love about children that have not been indoctrinated yet. They simply just live every day to the fullest. Through the years I tried to give my children a different world view. If you have teenagers or pre-teens an amazing book to get them thinking outside the box is "The Teenage Liberation Handbook".
Oh cool, thanks a lot for the book recommendation! I'm happy you enjoyed the article and at the same time appreciate your adding :) Being "indoctrinated" is a very good word here!
Great post. I hope the older I get the younger I'll be. Upvoted & following.
Wiser but not older, yeah :) Following back! Thank you!
That's why I don't want to grow up still...awesome post
We don't need to... in a certain way :)
Thank you!

Vielen lieben Dank!!! Das freut mich sehr zu hören :-)))
I'm happy you agreed on that one :) Thanks for stopping by!
staying immature is also a dangerous trap |:)
What is immature exactly from your point of view? :)
thinking all life is play.
lack of control of emotions.
inconsideration to others.
running away from responsbilities...
That is very healthy sometimes :-)
But of course I know what you mean. However, I'm not talking about "being a kid" all the time. Just stepping out of the routine, pause and focus on the details life has to offer. Not everything is serious business and performance...
Little kid still live in each of us and sometimes it is great to let it out. Sometimes it is great to feel yourself a kid again... But you must agree, if 40-50 years old people constantly acts like children and are unable to take basic decisions it looks unnormal.
Actually I don't mean "acting like a kid" in sense of being childish :) I meant much more to open our eyes and appreciate little details we don't see anymore from the adults´perspective.
Amen Marly!!
;-)
In this meaning our previous experience plays against us, you are right - it's a trap. Being the adults, we have ceased to be surprised simple things, but become more serious and cautious. The worst thing is that we try to get our kids to do the same...
Absolutely. We can be a great example to follow (not only for kids) :-)
thnx!
I'm trying :)
An inspiring post of one that gives me to nation to follow.
Cool! Thanks :-))
I dont wana grow up
Very one need to be conscious.
Yip! That's the key.
Very nice post!!
Thank you :))
