Hey friends!
So I’ve been having lots of conversations about sugar lately, and the topic of protein/meal replacement bars has come up more than once, so…
I figured it might be helpful to go through and discuss a couple of different protein bar options that I like and use myself, as well as one that masquerades as a healthy choice but really isn’t ideal!
I know that everyone will have their own nutrition approach, goals, and macro targets, and I would agree that there’s room for pretty much anything IN MODERATION within any diet plan, but in an attempt to keep things simple and straightforward I will be sharing with you a couple of my own favorites and why I like them :)
I’ll be talking about a Quest bar, ONE bar, Power Crunch and Clif Builder’s bar (for contrast, and I’ll explain why in the video)….
Aside from the taste, I feel pretty solid about the macro breakdown of all of these bars except the Builder’s. A reasonable amount of calories, plenty of protein, moderate fat, some carbs but a good amount of them coming from fiber, and low in sugar…
The Power Crunch bar is a little different, being a little higher in fat, a little lower in protein, and lower in carbs, so it is easier to fit into diets that emphasize a lower carbohydrate intake. Plus, they’re definitely my favorite in terms of flavor and texture!
I hope to point you in the right direction by showing you what I look for when I read a nutrition label, and to hopefully open your mind to some of the less obvious characteristics of some foods that want you to think they’re super healthy, even if they’re really not quite as great as they could be.
Of course I would always advocate the consumption of minimally processed whole foods in the place of any packaged bar or snack, but in a pinch (or for a treat) these do a pretty good job!
I hope you’ll watch my video but in case you don’t, my main points here are to read your labels, take in the big picture, evaluate your foods BEFORE you eat them, and be mindful of how much sugar is hiding in your everyday meals and snacks!
Let me know what you guys think! As always, I’d love to hear your feedback :)
I hope you guys are all having a wonderful day!

Loads of sugar... You want protein quick? Eat some eggs. :D
I agree with @manuc. Eggs are better than a protein bar.
I concur
Some do have loads of sugar - yikes!!! And I agree, whole foods are always preferable - I think I mentioned that in the video but not til pretty close to the end haha... I should've opened with that! Thanks for the comments, friends! @manuc @conficker @moshroom
After watching it. I do like your video. It gives me important knowledge and information. Thanks for your best information that has been shared. It is very benefit for me which is still stupid in understanding this context...
So glad it was helpful! You aren't stupid, we are all still learning! :) let me know if you ever have any questions!
Oke thanks for your best attention, my best friend. Be successful for your next post :)
Can be said all foods and refined drinks contain sugar, because this one substance can act as one of preservatives. one that contains a lot of sugar in beverage packaging, which is much-loved by the public.
So true - drinks can contain scary amounts of sugar! But sugar isn't the only preservative, and some processed foods truly don't contain any, so it's always safest to read labels carefully - a great lesson to point out here! Thanks friend!
Let's discuss Sugar Alcohol anything that says "Sugar Free" is a pure bullshit lie... They sneak it through using Sugar Alcohol due to the F.D.A. not allowing them to classify it as sugar. I speak as a diabetic. Sugar is fuel for some, and death for others. We have to watch and read our labels. These protein bars have some bad shit in them. These protein bars have some bad shit in them.
True - sugar alcohols, while not sugar, can contain calories and carbohydrates, just fewer than the real thing, and can thus still affect blood sugar levels... Since you do have diabetes, you're super smart to be extra careful of these less than straightforward factors. For the average person this might not be a huge deal, and that's basically who I was hoping to educate with this video, but for you it's crucial to know those specific details - glad you're being careful!!! Cheers to your health, my friend, and kudos to you for being so informed!
.
Thank you so much! What a sweet compliment :) glad you're enjoying a healthy life too - keep up the great work! :D
