I'm Going on 17 Days Vegan

in #health7 years ago (edited)

It's been over two weeks now that I've stuck to a strictly vegan diet and been taking probiotics.

Ta-da!

I'm still horribly inflamed, but it is funny that when people talk about inflammation going down, they always say "it melted right off", because I can see the inflammation literally melting off from the top down. My face looks normal and less round, I can see the tendons and voice box in my neck, and I can see my collarbones. The inflammation around my shoulders and arms has gone down considerably, but below that level I'm still swollen.

That migraine I had earlier today is also nearly completely gone. It's receded to the background and it's kind of lingering there, just waiting to pounce. I managed to get some great work done at the gym with Omar, though. I couldn't run the full mile, but I practice this little thing called "listening to your body". When I felt faint, I'd slow to a brisk walk. When I felt my strength return to me, I'd speed back up to a jog. I kept this up for about 8 minutes, which is a long as I dared push it, and then joined Omar for some weight lifting.

All in all, I'd say it was a great day despite the migraine.

I'm not a vegetarian but I don't really like meat, so all I eat are vegetable and soy product beside fruits. You look good already, way to go girl !!!

Thank you! And good for you! Bless.

vegan diet. Good choice.

Wish you the best. I also went dairy and fish free vegetarian. Feeling great so far. Will be posting about my journey as well soon.

Inspirational. Really makes me want to take the plunge and go vegan too... now if only I could convince the rest of the family....

I know! I can't convince Omar. No one can convince him of anything. He needs to physically see/feel/hear/touch everything himself. lol

Omar will probably be convinced when you start turning a lot of heads :D :D :D wahahahaha

;) Shut up, I already turn heads. Shameless.

Haha! Rock it girl :D

Are you into the nootropics too? After watching Omar's video, I'm starting to become curious about it lol.

I haven't tried them yet but I'm certain I will.

You go girl! Check out "what the health" video on YouTube or Netflix. A marathoners journey to veganism. Amazing insights on industry influence with cancer society, diabetes and heart societies is startling. I tend to wake up some mornings as a vegan. but if someone puts a free rare steak in front of me for dinner, I become a vampire. Overall my health is great for now. Upvoted resteemed and following.

Oh haha, I've already seen it. I watched "What's with Wheat", too, which is also great.

Elle will check that one out too...

Health is wealth!
Hard work and dedication will get you to your goal.
Keep it up queen 👑

Yaaaaaas, thank you.

Goood job, results look great going vegan! :)

I can see the progress. I'm curious what You will look like in 2 more weeks :)
Keep on vege :)

Yeah I was having that same thought. I'll let y'all know.

Hmm... @ellemarieisme You inspired me to try vege diet again, for 2-3 weeks for now.
I did vege diet before, first week was great, but on the 2'nd week, I didn't feel good. I mean lack of energy, sleepiness. I felt something was not allright, but hard to tell exactly what. So I stopped these diet for a while.
Somebody told me that body is detoxyfying, so maybe that was a reason of bad feelign after 2 weeks? Idk...
Let's see. Following :)

YES. It was the detox. Omg, how about I feel miserable? It's true. I'm in my third week and the second week was hell. This week is much better so far. You have to push through that wall because the other side is heavenly.

Thanks for inspiring me. Today is a next try. It will by my first day on vege. Thank You :)
And be strong as well @ellemarieisme :)

Food is medicine! Great post and you look healthy. I can recommend you look into Coconut Oil - it has so many health benefits, also for controlling weight and keeping the cells healthy.

Yeah, I've got a huge tub of it in the kitchen lol But I heard it wasn't very good for consumption. I forgot all about why, though. Oops.

Too much is not good, unless you need it ;)

Unfortunately, the health benefits are not well founded - at least not yet. And just because it is better than some other oils doesn't mean you should drown yourself in it (as noted by @nzfxtrader).

Oops, forgot the link that covers a lot of the research and controversy... https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jul/09/coconut-oil-debunked-health-benefits-big-fat-lie-superfood-saturated-fats-lard

Congratulations with your progress. You can be rightfully proud. Listening to your body is really important. Mine was sure to tell me that the days after running 8 km previous week after not running in more than 2 years :p

Keep up the good work!

Thanks very much! It's a lot of work getting myself straight, but totally worth it.

It certainly is. However, keeping it up is often the hardest part. But already 17 days is a nice positive indicator for the future I'd say :)

Yeah, it's probably easier for me than most to stick with it, because both of my parents are vegan, I'e been vegetarian for most of my life, and when I lived with my grandmother, we were eating vegetarian fare for the most part. I learned to cook vegan recipes from the whole family, practically. It really helps to stick with it if you know how to prepare food, so I've got a head start here. That's why I decided to simply switch to vegan cold turkey instead of easing into it. I figured I could handle it. So far so good.

It certainly seem that you could handle it yes. You should consider posting follow up results every few weeks :)

Yeah, thanks, I've been doing that so far.

Go ahead! Go Vegan!

Yes, I love eating this way! It feels so much better.

Wow, I did relate to your jog/stroll aspect of your walk -- because I've had to do the SAME thing.

Just glad we can do it - I 've not begun weight lifting yet, but intend to soon. When winter comes, will be in the gym.

It is GOOD you Listen to yr body; having been plagued myself w/ Migraines ..well , I know what u feel.

I have to SHUT the curtains AND put on my eye mask!

In case any #MIGRAINE sufferers can use this, am including a Link to '8 Foods To Avoid' ("TRIGGERS") :

Take care..

Yeah, you definitely get it. Sorry to hear you suffer from the same issues.

Just wondering; what do you mean by inflammation? And what causes it? My daughter has the round face etc but I thought she just needed to lose weight. You've got me wondering if there is more to it than that?

Well, if your daughter's arms and legs are relatively thin in comparison to her abdominal area, and her head looks like it's too small for her body, it is likely that she is suffering from some inflammatory reactions to something in her food. I am just one person, but that is my experience with symptoms from food sensitivity. What I mean is that all of my body's tissues swell, due to inflammation.
I first cut out gluten from my diet, and had much more clarity in my thoughts and lost about 30 pounds, but after that I stayed fluctuating between being so swollen, I had to wear a size 10 in jeans, and then shrinking back down to an 8. Having to swap between clothing sizes until now that I've cut out animal products, too. Now it's been a steady improvement. But anything could be the cause for a food sensitivity. The best way to find out what it is is to go on an elimination diet and then reintroduce foods until you figure out which one is the culprit.
I hope this information helps. Hopefully, your daughter is just fine.

oh wow; thanks so much. She has the distended stomache really bad; so much so that people ask if she is expecting a child. I bought her Life Change Tea and she is just starting on it now. Thanks for the info!

Oh no, that sounds like a reaction to her food. The tea will not help much unless the food causing the reaction is removed from her diet. People constantly ask me if I'm expecting a child because my belly sometimes sticks out so far.
I can tell you that the number one culprit for this is gluten. Had it been a food allergy, you would have known immediately upon the food touching her lips. If it's not an allergy, it's a sensitivity. Casein is another big one, and that's found in dairy and other animal products.
My suggestion is that you eliminate these two proteins from the entire family's diet. I know it seems really crazy, but that family support is what's going to make this change seamless for your daughter. Who knows, maybe you'll find yourself with a flatter tummy, too!
How old is she?

She is actually out on her own (28); she has never looked after her eating habits and big into chips and processed foods. I think she's finally ready to tackle the problem though. This is very helpful info!

That's great to hear! I'm 29, so she and I are peers.

You look great BTW!

Amazing post. Hard work. You look beatiful@ellemarieisme

Diet is nearly everything... Good luck and good for you on your healthy choices.

Good work! Your health will certainly improve with a wholefood vegan diet but most importantly you'll be contributing to much less unnecessary animal suffering :)
