Wildcrafted Medicine: Foods, Herbs, and Spices with Anti-Inflammatory Properties

in #health7 years ago (edited)

The body has a natural inflammatory response to pathogens, toxins, injuries, stress, and irritants.

Acute inflammation is a healthy process whereby the immune system repairs and defends the body, characterized by redness, swelling, itching, heat, and pain.

Chronic inflammation (also called low-grade or systemic inflammation) is a disturbance in the force that can lead to far more serious conditions from psoriasis to cancer. In this case, the complex inflammatory response has gone awry and actually damages the system.

Diseases linked to inflammation:

  • arthritis
  • depression
  • cardiovascular disease
  • diabetes
  • some cancers
  • psoriasis
  • eczema
  • metabolic syndrome
  • lupus
  • fibromyalgia
  • IBS
  • celiac disease

Thankfully, Mother Nature provides solutions in her infinite wisdom!

Here are some plants with anti-inflammatory properties that can assist in returning the body to wellness:

  • pineapple
  • blueberries
  • dandelion
  • cruciferous veggies
  • leafy green veggies
  • ginger

  • turmeric
  • garlic
  • green tea
  • cloves
  • cinnamon
  • lavender

  • sage
  • calendula
  • mint
  • cat's claw
  • ashwagandha
  • holy basil (Tulsi)

  • milk thistle
  • aloe
  • comfrey
  • cannabis
  • rosemary
  • arnica (for external use)

These are just a few foods, herbs, and spices that you can add to your diet or health routine to protect your body from rampant inflammation! Prevention is often significantly easier than treating a full-blown illness.

It is really exciting to let people know they have many options for real thrival!

You mention milk thistle. I used to only think of that as bird food, but then I learned that milk thistle seeds are different from the thistle we see in bird food. Milk thistle seeds detox our liver. They are too tough to chew so I grind them up and sprinkle them on my morning breakfast. I find them tasty and energizing and always keep them on hand. Great article. Thank you.

You're welcome, @weq! It's super fun to learn about new plants and their incredible properties for activating health in the human body. Milk thistle is a very popular plant for enhancing liver health, as is dandelion and its many relatives like sow thistle too!
