WHAT IS OIL PULLING?
Oil pulling is an amazing ORAL DETOXIFICATION procedure, that is done by swishing a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for at least 10 minutes, but the ideal time is 20 minutes. You can also use olive or sesame oil, but #1 recommendation is the coconut oil.
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic trick used to clean (detoxify) the oral cavity. Just like soap cleans our dirty dishes, the oil pulling literally SUCKS TOXINS out of your mouth, which creates a clean, antiseptic oral environment which prevents cavities and disease.
Oil pulling is done with the coconut oil. You can also use olive or sesame oil, but the #1 recommendation is the coconut oil. It is one of the BEST ways to REMOVE BACTERIA and promote HEALTHY GUMS and TEETH.
Oil pulling is also one of the best ways to naturally WHITEN TEETH, plus it has been proven to be more effective than flossing. This is so far the best and the safest way to whiten your teeth naturally, plus all the other amazing oral and health benefits that it provides.
It has been advised by the Ayurveda to gargle the oil to purify the entire system mainly because each section of the tongue is connected to different organs such as lungs, liver, kidneys, heart, stomach, colon, small intestines and spine. It is very similar to TCM or reflexology.

PROCEDURE OF OIL PULLING
Use 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil and swirl in your mouth for ideally 20 minutes. (Even 10 minutes is better than nothing). Do not go over the 20 minutes, since after the 20 minutes all the bacteria restores back into your mouth.
It seems like a big task, 20 minutes, and that is why it took me so long to start practicing this procedure, but it is actually really easy to do. The best time to do it is in the morning, so when you are taking a shower or getting ready, it is a perfect time to swirl some coconut oil in your mouth.
It is recommended to do this procedure daily for at least 2 weeks.
After you spit out the coconut oil, rinse your mouth and brush it. And that is it.
God Bless You!
This is a good informative post on oil pulling! I did a post about it when I first joined Steemit because I wanted everyone to know of it’s benefits! I have been doing this for about two years now. I must say it takes some discipline to stick to it because it’s easy to get tired of doing it. I have definitely experienced the benefits of it and recommend this to everyone. I hope you stick to it and reap the benefits as well :)
Is it necessary to do it for a duration of 2 weeks? I understand it if for the first time of doing it. But beyond the 2 weeks, how regular is regular?
Yes! Everyday should be the goal! It should be as often as you brush. Some people do it twice a day but I only do it once a day. I don’t stick with it everyday but I try to do it at least three times a week :)
Let me go find me some oil then so I can start this :) Thanks!
No problem at all! It will feel weird and maybe uncomfortable the first few times. You will actually feel the plaque and dirt being switched around in your mouth. At first I could only go for 10 minutes and then had to discard it but now I can go for 20. Just make sure never to swallow it. Also you want to discard it in the trash and not the sinks or toilets beacsue the oil could clog them up. Have fun ;)
wow! Never heard this before.
I'll try this one, but need to find the right oil.
Thanks Jo. Happy Easter. xoxo
Yes. Organic coconut oil is #1 recommendation. I must warn you it is very gross when you put it in your mouth, for about 20 seconds, till it melts in your mouth, but it is so worth it.
Happy Easter my lovely friend.
Fantastic post, I never knew about oil pulling and how all these works
I know. I heard of it for a while, but never knew what it was or how it works.

Thank you @alisonudeme for your lovely visit.
Glad that I could help, because I heard of oil pulling for so long, but just like you never knew how and why?
Interesting, this did not know I will put in practice since tomorrow
Sounds good.
I started myself just recently too.
This is my first time reading about this. Other than those oils mentioned, are there more alternatives? Can we also do it every 5 minutes rather than the whole 20 at once?
Any time you do it, it it is better than not doing it a all, but for the best results it it recommended 20 minutes and don't exceed the 20 minutes since the bacteria gets restored in your mouth again.
I was afraid to try it out too because I thought there is no way I do 20 minutes, but it isn't like gargling but just simply swirling in your mouth in the morning (the best time) while you are showering and getting ready for the day, and it is actually really easy and the time goes so fast, that you will not even know how fast it went.
As for the essential oils, I don't think that there are better alternatives, but if you can't get them then as long as you just eat healthy foods and just take care of your health as much as you can.
Before I got into the oils, I would also use natural path doctors instead of normal family doctor since natural path doctors prescribe natural medicine too and they can really help you out with whatever you are dealing with, but having the oils at home and using them daily, helps your body, by making the immune system strong and making it healthy, so that it doesn't get sick and makes your body heal itself.
Coconut oil is abundant here anyway. I asked just in case for some reason everybody suddenly started doing oil pulling lol! I just tried doing this using olive oil and the process is tiring haha! I have to be careful not to swallow it. Doing it again later today.

Coconut seems to be medicinal. Can this fight against bad breathe?
Yes. Absolutely @kabeertijani. Coconut is like a natural medicine.
The studies have shown to kill bad breath.
Thank you ma'am

Hi! I'm a chemist. I've formulated (figured out how to make on a huge scale) things like mouthwash--and I have to tell you, I hadn't thought of this one and we hadn't come across it at the companies where I've worked. You actually have a great idea for bad breath. The fat in the coconut can dissolve a chemical called cadaverine, which was named after the way it smells. That's a really good thing not to have on your breath. Thanks for posting this, and I'm following you!
Thank you my chemist friend @robertsrister for your awesome response which I really appreciate and glad you stopped by, since I can follow you, so that I can learn more from you which I enjoy.
Wow this is a good idea, I never heard of it until now, but I think it will be hard for me to do ms. @joalvarez considering the taste of te oil... hehehehe thank you fpr another very useful blog maam...😘😘😘❤️😊
It is actually really gross when you put the coconut oil in your mouth for about 20 seconds till it is all melted in your mouth and then it is fine.
I asked my husband to try it , we have olive oil but he wants coconut oil so I have to buy virgin coconut oil heheheh
Really this is amazing information you gave in the post. Thia could be really helpful for skin also.

We win together! Absolutely
Have heard of oil pulling, didn't really know the benefits or how long to do it for, might give it a try knowing the benefits from this post.
Thanks for sharing your fabulous knowledge.
Thanks @biglipsmama.
I know, I have heard of it for a very long time, but didn't really know what it was until I researched and tried it myself.
I decided to give this a try about 18 months ago. I was having some issues and figured that it couldn't hurt.
So I religiously gargled 1-2 times per day for 90 days. I received not one benefit. As a matter of fact, it dried my mouth out, rather than moistened it, which is not healthy.
So, from experience the activity does not do as it claimed.
Also, you mention that it has been "proven" to be better than flossing, but did not provide a source. Could you provide a source?
