Sounds easier said than done, but Ive been planning this for some time and Ive finally decided that today is going to be day 0.
I need to feel free of this terrible addiction, It will help my self esteem. And I promised myself and my children that I would stop killing myself with horrible habit. Since I arrived in the clinic I have been smoking far too much at times almost on purpose to try and get myself to the point where I am grossed out by myself. Its hard to feel good about yourself when you are constantly depending on something as stupid and useless as these horrible cancer sticks that are available everywhere.
Im going cold turkey all the way no patches or nicotine gum, I managed to stop smoking for long periods of time before but Im convinced this is the real deal. Exercise and mental discipline will be my tools, I worry about gaining weight but that will likely only be short term.
This is extremely important to me and I feel that sharing it here on Steemit which will be then shared on FB for my friends and family to read will help to ensure that I never pick up another cigarette in my life. I will likely turn into a total antismoking freak like happened when I quit before.
If you have any tips on how you stopped or words of encouragement I look forward to reading your comments. I hope you also resteem this post, maybe I can encourage some other smokers to join in me in this life saving oportunity.
it is all in the mind , once you have made the decision to stop the battle is already won .
Thats exactly how I feel!
Best decision! Not only for yourself, but also for your children.
There are apps available to help you stay motivated.

Good luck!
awesome idea thanks ! I will check it out
I wish you the best with this, and it sounds like you are ready to quit so I think you got this!
For me, if I want to stop something I substitute something else that is similar. Maybe chewing bubble gum and blowing a lot of bubbles will help! Or vaping with a very low nicotine liquid might be needed. I think if you get past the first few weeks, you'll be an official ex-smoker!
Yeah I really need some chewing gum to keep myself ocupied. Thanks for the great advice.
Good for you. Send me an email address....I have a pdf book that might help you with this....
[email protected] thanks @giantbear That sounds great, apreciate the book
Just sent the mail @mallorcaman you can do this!
Thanks a million I just saw the email :)
Quitting smoking is a great decision. Hang in there!
Thanks @countryinspired Its tough because its the first day but I have been planning this for 2 weeks so Im ready.
Good Luck!!
I've heard that doing this "Im going cold turkey all the way no patches or nicotine gum" is best way. Everyone who quit, for real quit, went cold turkey. I am 36 been smoking.... since before i was born, if the makes sense. I think its been well over 2 decades since i went a day with out smokes.
Cold Turkey is the only way to go. Let us know what you do with your hands in the meantime. That's my kicker. I also worry my character will change as smoking is who i am.
Stay strong, remember the reason your quitting.
Good on you, the first week is the hardest. do anything not to have that next one. My last was as I stepped into the hospital after the first of five heart attacks. Because I was stuck in bed and couldn't go outside I was forced to 'cold turkey'. 22 years later I still haven't had that next one, thank goodness,
Go places where you can't smoke when the urge comes on, and it will. just keep going and you will succede.
Really apreciate you sharing your story, I really want this to be the one and I am already finding that the smell of smoke is turning me off.
Then you will start hanging around those who are smoking just for the smell. Try to resist, it is to easy to have a sample puff and be right back at the beginning. Hang in there, you can do it.
Its going well, finished my second day and holding strong, Im convinvced that I am not going to have any more cigarettes.
Good on you mallcaman. It will get easier, but there will also periods when you wonder 'what the **am I doing'.get through those, I kept my hands busy, to dirty to roll a smoke, and keep steemin on.

It's a tough decision to make and even harder to keep but I believe you can succeed.
I remember the post your son did about this and I'm sure he will be happy but ultimately we need to make these tough decisions for ourselves.
