My daughter and I have a collection of crystals, some we have actually found along river beds. One of my favourites is kyanite, and one of my fave kyanite pieces pieces is a rough sample, shaped like the wing of a crystal bird it also glitters along its axes.
Also, be careful handling rough kyanite as it is brittle and sharp and can cut you.

Very cool that you found a piece shaped like the wing of a crystal bird. Going out and looking for crystals and stones and other treasure with children is fun and creates great memories. My kids are teens now, but they both still have that spark in them to look for treasure. We were recently at the beach (we live in Tucson, so going to the beach is rare for us) and my kids looked for shells and stones and crabs... Simple pleasures! Thank you, again.
