There exists several arguments on how to eat fruit and what best time to eat it. It is a known fact that fruits are very rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Fruits have multiple health benefits but does that mean one should eat a bunch of fruits at any time of the day? Is there a best time to eat fruits and is there a particular time when eating of fruit should be completely avoided? Let's look at the various arguments about the best time to eat fruits.
1.Always eat fruits in an empty stomach.
There is a claim that eating fruits on an empty stomach plays a great role in detoxifying the system and supplying it a great deal of energy and also aids weight loss while that may be true, there is another claim that says eating fruits with meals slows digestion and causes food to stay in the stomach and not ferment leading to gas, discomfort and other unrelated symptoms. Bottom line is this, eating fruits with a meal can actually slow your stomach. This I consider as a good thing because it helps cut back on calories by making you feel more full.
2.Eating fruit before a meal.
There is a claim also that eating fruit right before a meal can cause one to miss out on the nutritional value of the fruit. This is a misconception. The human body is efficient enough to extract nutrients from food. The small intestine is designed to absorb as many nutrients as it possibly can infact twice as many nutrients as an average person consumes in one day. Therefore, eating fruit before meal, is no work for the digestive system as it is more than prepared to digest and absorb the nutrients from the fruit. There is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that eating fruit separately from a meal improves digestion. If you know of any, kindly share it.
For diabetic patients, rather than eating fruits 1-2 hours before meal, eating it with meal high in protein, fiber or fat is a better choice. This is because protein, fiber, and fat causes the stomach to release food into the small intestine more slowly. This simply means that for someone with diabetes, a smaller amount of sugar will be absorbed at a time leading to a smaller rise in blood sugar level.
3. Afternoon is the best time to eat fruits.
There is a claim that because the metabolism of the body slows down in the afternoon, eating a food that is high in sugar raises blood sugar level and awakens the digestive system. Any carb containing food can also do this regardless of the time of the day. I can't find the logic behind the idea of afternoon being the best time to eat fruits. Fruit is healthy no matter what time it is eaten.
What Then Is The Best Time To Eat Fruits?
Any time of the day is a great time to munch some fruits. Fruits are nutritious and healthy food and can be eaten anytime of the day. Timing of fruits might make a difference in some cases such as:-
1. Weight loss:- fruit contains fibre. Eating it help one feel full for a longer time. This will cause one to eat fewer calories and thus aiding weight loss. Eating fruit with a meal or right before a meal increases this effect. So are you looking to loose some weight? You Kno what to do.
2. Managing Type 2 Diabetes:- Eating fruit with another food that is high in protein, fat or fibre may cause a slow diffusion of sugar from the fruits into the small intestine as earlier mentioned resulting in a smaller rise in blood sugar. This also works for a woman with gestational diabetes.
As much as eating fruits during the day is healthy notwithstanding if it was taken before a meal or with a meal, eating fruits after dinner adds the calories contained in the fruits to the body which is bad for weight loss. This is because fruits speed up metabolism only during active hours which is usually during the day. At night, the metabolism works more slowly when one is lying down or sleeping.
In conclusion
- Eat Fruits before dinner
- Eat Fruits at breakfast
- Eat fruits in the afternoon
- Eat Fruits by itself.
- Always eat fresh foods.

By sources, I didn't mean where the images came from, I meant where the information she's giving are from. If you must be outstanding, credibility matters. Let people know you are not out here to bamboozle them. I might know @zizymena and that her information is correct, but do other people reading this know?? That's it...
