RE: A Cold Sunday Hike to a Frozen Waterfall

Wow, that is really nice looking! Thanks for sharing all the cool pics. I can't imagine it being that cold. It is so weird for us to be in shorts and tshirts still here and everyone else to be bundled up and freezing!! This isn't a normal feeling - even in Texas we would get cold in the winter. I have to say it's kind of nice. The ice is pretty amazing looking. I like that you could see the water running at various spots. Brrr...makes me feel cold just looking at it!

Yes, I imagine this would be a strange sight both in Texas and in Panama. haha

I think the water running beneath the ice in the creek was one of my favorite parts. I'm glad I took a video clip so everyone could get an idea of how it looked. There were a couple of spots in the waterfall itself where you could hear the water and see the water flowing. Like someone else in the comments suggested, it would be really neat to see a time-lapse video of it thawing out!

Thanks so much for your comment!

Oh yeah, that would be cool to see it thawing out. We used to go to a place in Oklahoma called Turner Falls and it would occasionally freeze over. It was a super fun place to hang out in the summer with a big waterfall when there wasn't a drought. These pics kind of remind me of what that might have looked like - I've seen a pic of it frozen, but never went. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let people walk out to it frozen though. Lots of rules in that place.

They have all sorts of signs placed up about the dangers of swimming near the falls, but nothing about walking out on the ice. As you can see, it was pretty sturdy, though. I really didn't think twice about walking out on the ice. Now that I think about it, I suppose it is a bit risky.

Oh well, it was worth the experience. I'll have to check out Turner Falls. There are so many beautiful waterfalls across the United States. I've seen so many just in NC and VA where I've lived.
