One of the greatest pranks in history took place on April 1st, 1957, when someone pulled off one of the funniest April Fools' jokes ever.

On that day, British television aired a segment about a Swiss plantation known for producing spaghetti! The footage was presented by Richard Dimbleby, a well-known journalist of the 1950s, and showed the spaghetti harvest in a small town in southern Ticino.

The video featured a detailed explanation of the tree’s growth, flowering, and harvest. In particular, it showed a woman from Canton Ticino picking spaghetti from the tree and laying it out to dry in the sun, preparing it to share with her family.

According to the BBC, after the broadcast, they received numerous phone calls from viewers wanting to buy their own pasta tree. The station replied to everyone the next day, suggesting that all you needed to do was place a spaghetti in a glass jar with some tomato to grow the plant.

The prank was an instant success, especially since, in the 1950s, spaghetti was still quite rare in Britain and considered an exotic dish. As a result, many people believed there really was a tree that produced tasty spaghetti.
