You know, my kids said the same thing to me after they married and had children.
We are not perfect parents, but we try our best even in the tough times and just have to remain to be an anchor for them.

Now that they are far away from me, the less calls that I get from them, the happier I am because I know that they are making their own ways in life. Now and then when they are troubled by something difficult, I am the first one that they call.

This is as it should be according to me.

Yes, my mom was and continues to be my hero.

Cheers and thank you!

I think what you wrote is completely right - we should be the anchor which they can rely on when they need one.
To be the first one they think of means they trust you and know you will try to help - that's good and shows you have done everything right. I hope it will be the same with us and out kids 🙂

I am sure that you will also see the truth like me in the later years once they are established with their own families. Life just works out like that and it might sound cruel, but I always told them that once they are finished with school, that's it, they must go and make their own lives.
Two of them continued to study at university and I only paid their registration fees.
They had to find part time work to pay their own courses and exam fees. Best move I ever made, as today they are proud of their own accomplishments!

Now when the time comes for me to depart this life, I can go in peace, knowing that they are quite capable of looking after themselves.

Cheers and thank you!

As said, you are completely right and this way they learn how to manage their own life. That's also the way my parents have done it with me and my siblings and it was a sometimes hard, but a good and working way.
Next months my kids will be 18. My daughter is still going to school and I think she will go to the University, but we are not sure yet what she wants to study. My son is still searching for something he likes and we try to help him as best as we can.

What is the employment situation in Austria Sir Johann?
It is extremely difficult for youngsters to find employment here and we are trying with the charity to instill a culture of self employment.
South Africa currently has a 60% un-employment figure and there's no quick solutions in sight.

I am in the process of writing a new skills training project.
We have also already started to gather the requirements for the project, as I have 8 new laptops and the idea is to teach unemployed university graduates advanced coding and also to list each graduate from the project on #hive.

Just my idea here and I don't know what talents your son has, but he should search for something that matches it methinks!

Cheers and thank you!

Ps. The reason why I mention our new project idea here, is that we hope and pray that others on @hive that reads this, will copy the idea. It will empower their own youngsters in their country and it could be of great benefit for the growth of #hive.

I think we have about 10 percent unemployed people, but in my opinion everybody who wants to work will certainly find a work in Austria, but many get enough money from the state and don't even want to work.

Your project sounds nice and is a really good idea. It's like my son's program, apart from that yours is private and my son's is by the government and he gets paid.

Yes, I don't force him to find something he likes, but I cannot sponsor him when his program ends in a few months ;)

Greetings to you Sir Johann.

Unfortunatelly the money that the state supplies to unemployed people here is not enough to live on.

The government tries their best, but there are too many people and it costs billions just to give everyone something.

We don't get any support from government, as they sponsor thousands of non-profits and so we have to make our own way.
Luckily your son gets paid and we hope that he finds something before the program ends.
Maybe they would run another program that he could join?

In any case it would be better for him if he finds something more permanent methinks!

Cheers and thank you!
