Here are a few insect finds on my morning commutes into downtown Chicago.
This is a huge moth I found on the side of a skyscraper. When it flew away it had orange under its wings.
Here is a wooly bear caterpillar on the sidewalk.
Here is a huge cicada killer wasp aka murder hornet.
This is a red admiral butterfly resting on a marble planter.
Now that fall is approaching the milkweed beetle nymph are showing up on the milkweed pods.
Here is an orb weaver. These guys cover all of Chicago in the fall months.
Here is a big daring jumping spider. I wish I could have caught her an put her into a terrarium, they make great pets that can be handled and hand fed.
Now for a tiny green wasp on a flower. I wish I knew the id of these guys.
Here is another orb weaver on a tree branch in tye evening.
They look like Hew York insects to me...😊
Haha these ones were a little less cultured compared to the NY ones. They perfer deep dish pizza as well.
Beautiful pictures!
Thanks, soon tge season of insects will be over here and the blistering cold winter will arrive.
I haven't seen winter for 100 years already :-))
Lucky, we get tough windy ones over here.
Wooo, some amazing macros @sketch.and.jam !! .. The caterpillar actually does not really look like one, hehe ;)
I just found a huge roach but it was too gross to take a picture of. Sadly I also found a dead mantis that was around 6 inches in length.![20200904_082425.jpg](https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sketch.and.jam/HTdO6NPB-20200904_082425.jpg)
Oh no, poor fellow ! hmm .. It is a little bit yellowish. I once read in a post that they become yellowish if they are near to the end of their life circle.
I wish I could find a nice big green one to do a macro photoshoot. Poor things only live a few months.
Your photography is awesome!
I have plenty of subject matter to photograph in Chicago.
