After assessment of risk, you can make a decision. There are some dangerous situations like someone holds a knife to your throat. Now if you try to move a little bit, the attacker can do anything. And he does not have to do a lot, his little movement is enough to make some serious damage.

Now first of all, how did you get into that situation where the attacker holds a knife to your throat? You would have more options before the attacker did that.

To defend yourself, whatever you want to do, your primary move is to remove the knife from your throat. Everything would be useless and put your life in more danger if you don't remove the knife.

If someone grabs, makes you off-balance, and drags you, you should remove the threat first. You need to get out the attacker's grip. You can try to move to get rid of this, but that might not work against hitting, grabbing, and dragging.

To protect yourself, you need to regain your body balance first if you understand the possible threat. When you regain your body balance, you can make your move to defend yourself. The sooner you remove the threat, the better.
