Someone has a vested interest in keeping people out, its probably the machinery that no doubt has value. You do get a feeling about some places, and while it was empty we could have been unlucky and met the gatekeeper.

Although you won't do any harm, others will and so you can't blame them for protecting the property. Not seen any farmers on Hive, but I bet they all have some horror stories.
