SPS Poll: Should we alter the contents of Conclave Arcana Starter Packs?

in Hive Polls4 days ago

Howdy Splinterfolk, today I have been asked to run a poll to see how SPS stake weighs in on the issue of altering the contents of the Conclave Arcana Starter Packs. This is a separate topic from the current proposal to adjust the packs to 1,000 DEC for 5 cards and should be considered independently.

During the previous polling and ongoing proposal period for the other issue related to Starter Packs, I was asked by multiple community members to run a poll for adjusting the contents of the packs. The idea that is suggested is to add some sort of "jackpot" or "chase" mechanic to the starter packs to drive recurring microtransactions and push sales. There were also concerns raised that doing this could devalue the core packs as well as the GF and Legendary packs, so it's important to consider the risk/reward of altering the contents of the Starter Packs.

Important Context

  • 1/10 or 1/100 represents a tenth or hundredth of the normal chance to pull the related card rarity or foil. So if there is a 5% chance normally, it would be a .5% or .05% chance based on the polling option below.
  • This is the first time a poll of mine will allow for two votes. This is to allow people to vote on whether or not they want to include gold foil in their choice. It's okay to only pick one option.
  • If you don't want epic, legendary or gold foil to be part of the starter packs at all, please only vote for "Change Nothing."

Please choose which options below that you would support with your stake if a full proposal was made and feel free to discuss in the comments:

I'm going to share my personal thoughts here:

While I personally am not going to vote in favor of increasing the value of the Starter Packs, I'm also not vehemently opposed to it if the DAO chooses to do so. Some things to consider:

  • Starter Packs are unlimited. Adding a chance at Epic, Legendary or GF cards means there is no cap on the printing of those cards, like the commons and rares will currently be purchasable until the next core set comes out.
  • I think Rebellion has showed us that scarcity and small print numbers are our best chance at retaining value in the cards.
  • As someone that is now directly involved in helping to test and balance the Conclave Arcana set, one thing that has been very much on my mind is to ensure that we are not putting so much value in the common and rare slots that we create a situation where people won't feel any need to buy "full packs." We've seen some extreme balancing issues with the last rewards set where the epic cards are where the majority of the value is at and the legendary cards are nearly useless. I believe it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the epic and legendary cards in Conclave Arcana feel premium compared to the commons and rares.

For these reasons I am voting on "change nothing" but I will abide whatever decision the DAO wants to make here as I can see why people feel differently.

I respect your views, but want to be clear RB has not 'maintained value'. We have a few OP cards totally skewing the average, while the majority have gone down considerably since release. I know because I have been watching, and regret buying many cards early at 2x, 3x, or 4x the current price. I'm still watching most go down... even trying to DCA the set over the past few months, I kick myself for even buying a few cards a month or two ago as prices have still dropped considerably!

The way to drive value is DEMAND, and that is ONLY done with new players and a constantly expanding player base. ALL of our problems come from that, band aids and intentional price walls will only work against us long term. A 1/100th change of an E, L, or GF will hardly change the market value on those cards while adding excitement for the little guy. It's the 'always available' stater sets that will devalue the set, I didn't know the staters would still be available after the standard boosters were OOP.

I think I would be okay with 1/100th honestly. We'll see what the DAO thinks. As I said above, I'm not overly invested in this particular argument and I've told you personally I don't really even care if the DAO wanted to move back to cheaper packs. I think the terms just need to be known upfront so people can make decisions accordingly. If the DAO wants some tiny chance at epic/legendary cards (like microscopic) I could probably support it... I definitely wouldn't vote against it.

I've been looking for us a new fiat on/off ramp for months. I had 5 more meetings this week. The ones that will work with us want like $35,000 - $50,000 and don't service U.S. customers. I have more meetings set up and will continue to look. We are not in any kind of position to get a tier 1 exchange listing right now and the DAO has not giving me a budget or guidelines to work with to pursue one anyway. So how do you expect that I make that happen?

Good news is that I think we are getting closer on establishing the legal entity. I've met with a few more firms this week. Currently looking at Panama and Singapore, both of which seem to be able to setup within a week. It's mostly down to just figuring out which jurisdiction the elected reps are most comfortable with and finding a firm that is good to work with. IMO, the fiat on/off ramp is the most critical thing we need at this point, but paying some randos $50k to list our BSC token (no native integration) is a big ask when they can't even support U.S. customers. I'm doing what I can and I'll keep looking. When we find a good one I'll be making sure you guys know asap. Hopefully we don't have to pay, but if we do... it better at least service the U.S.
