Greetings to the entire #hiveopenmic family. I hope you had a nice week. This week, we had the opportunity to listen to beautiful melodies from many friends in the community. The music I prepared for you for the "More Than Words" theme in the 114th week of the ensemble is the folk song "Since we reached Emirdag", which is known by many music lovers in Anatolia. The story of this folk song is quite sad and dramatic. I would like to tell you briefly about the story of Turkey.

In a village in the Emirdağ district of Turkey's Afyonkarahisar province, there was a couple who loved each other since they were young. The young boy goes to Afyonkarahisar to complete his high school education. Because of this separation, the girl decides to sing the voice of her love, which comes from the depths of her heart. These burnt songs that smell of love and passion sung by the girl became legendary in Emirdağ.
Her father decides to marry her off to a man she doesn't love. The girl writes a letter to inform her beloved, who is studying in Afyonkarahisar, about this unfortunate situation she is in. However, since the mail was not as fast as it is now, the letter reaches the loved one very late. The young man receives the letter and cannot reach the girl in time with the thought of "Let me go so my exams are over". The girl, who could not hear from her loved one for a very long time, could not bear this pain any longer and committed suicide after singing this song on her wedding day.

Türkiye’nin Afyonkarahisar ilinin Emirdağ ilçesinde bir köyde birbirini ufak yaştan beri seven bir çift varmış. Genç delikanlı, lise eğitimini tamamlayabilmek için Afyonkarahisar’a gider.

The words of a song or folk song mean a lot. However, this time, I wanted to prepare the music for you, which sometimes tells us more than words and the emotion of the story. I prepared this folk song instrumentally with my own instrument, baglama. I hope you will like it.
I am leaving the link of the original recording of this song I prepared for you below.

Since we reached Emirdag / Emirdağ’ı Birbirine Ulalı
[ENG]

Since we reached Emirdag
Gold ring wrapped around her finger
Has your nose grown since you've been a bride?
Aren't you the one I loved when I was a girl?

Let's go to Emirdag and snow
We are tired of quince, let's go to pomegranate
The beauty of this place can't be heartbroken
Let's go to the place where we will

[TR]

Emirdağ’ı birbirine ulalı
Altın yüzük parmağına dolalı
Burnun mu büyüdü gelin olalı
Kız iken sevdiğim sen değil misin

Emirdağ'ına da kara gidelim
Ayvadan usandık nara gidelim
Buranın güzeli gönül eylemez
Gönül eyleyecek yere gidelim

Ouch! That was a very painful history.
I hear a lot of similar stories from my home town. Know a few who are forced into arranged marriage too.

By the way, you play the baglama wonderfully. 😊

!1UP

In our country, arranged marriages made against the will of the couples have been going on for years. People who have been oppressed in the past have been exposed to it a lot. I hope there are no more vicious acts of force like this anywhere in the world.

Thank you very much for your fine comment. I try to convey my feelings and mood to you through music.😊😊🙏🙏

I believe that there are still arranged marriage being made in more remote areas.
If the movies that I've watched is accurate, then, maybe, it is still practiced by rich families, in highly developed areas, to preserve or expand their wealth. 🙂

Yes, you're right, in some regions rich families do it with this in mind. In some, such marriages are made because of complete ignorance or selfish thoughts of people.

The baglama did some nice music here :))
No words in our performance, but still, instrumental music can bring great vibes 😇

Thank you for listening and liking @mipiano. It is a nice feeling to be able to convey the emotions I feel while playing the music to other people with my instrument.😊
