We are going to Split!

We are going to Split! - That might seem obvious because I've been fortunate to attend every annual meeting since its inception.
That is, until last year.
For the first time, I missed HiveFest last year. While I enjoyed watching the event via online streams, it was nothing compared to being there in person. I even hosted an alternative cry-party for those who couldn't go to Rosarito.
Yes, that absence created the longest HiveFest deprivation period in my Hive life ;-)

Split @gandalf and @dobranoc visiting split. Way long before the genesis block.

Can you guess the year this photo was taken? It was the last time my wife and I visited Split...

So yes, we are coming back to Split together.

And how about you?
Still wondering if you should attend this year?
(TL;DR: YES!)
There's still time to arrange it, get your ticket and come :-)

But hey, this is supposed to be #roadtohivefest.
For us it's an actual road - because we are driving there.

For those of you flying, a friendly reminder: I made a deal with SkyTeam Airline Alliance which is an official partner of HiveFest, offering potential discounts on flights for you.

We're going to do some sightseeing on the way there and back, with shorts stops planned in Vienna and Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Route

Navigation says it's 24 hours behind the wheel both ways - if there are no stops and no traffic, and of course, using toll roads. Avoiding them would make it 35 hours. No, we're not that crazy.
2300 km in total, five countries to drive through. Easy.

Are there other attendees coming to HiveFest by car?
Maybe someone taking the train?

What's your #roadtohivefest?

Sort:

I'm coming to Split by bus :D
A lil 14 Hour Bus ride from Germany with one stop in Zagreb (Croatia)
Super exited, see you there!

That's interesting option. May I ask about the costs of such trip?
I was recommending minibus / minivan for friends as an economic option for 6 persons, but I think they eventually chose to fly.

Mini bus for six people might be an option...but I'm traveling by myself and I'm using the Flixbus.

50 EUR one way....that's a steal in my opinion hahaha

Exactly. It's not easy to do that cheaper. Maybe except of hitchhiking, riding a bike or walking?

Hahaha I'm not accepting that challenge 🤣💀

I'll be there! I'm flying in as that was the easiest option. I looked to see if I could do it by train, but then got a suggestion of bus that would take 2 days! I've never been to Split or Croatia before, so it's a new experience. It will be great to see you again for a !BEER.

After reading title i was shocked "we are going to split" means i thought "Hive is going to split". But after reading the post then i came to know its totally different😅 its all about place.

I read the title and was 100% sure it would be on Hive community breaking into two like during Steem Hardfork. 😄
UFFF...!

Clickbait worked! ;-)

We did a similar trip a week ago, and it's enough for this summer... 😃

Coming by plane to Split! See you there!

Awesome! Can't wait to see u again! We already met a bunch of times <3
A few buddies and me (5 persons) sharing thesame flight to and back from split. arriving on sunday!

Lets goooooo
Have a good ride buddy!

At what time you arrive at the airport? I'm not sure about available options but figuring out cost efficient transfer Airport -> Split could be challenging.
I just saw @alessandrawhite's post about airport transfer for HiveFest. 35EUR is bearable but expensive, you can get almost 200HIVE for that :-) so it's better to Split!

roughly landing at 6pm on sunday - out of airport roughly maybe 6:45pm.
yea, i think they have uber there - we are 5 persons anyway - maybe we can just split the bill or some friendly hivian will pick us up :D

I'm friendly and I love to drive, but at that time I won't be there yet, I will be arriving to Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Wow! Such amazing Place! Look at this amazing crazy many Waterfalls! It's not that realy far away from Split ^^ 2,5hr driving from Split. Wish u all the best and great photos in this nice place!

Cant wait to see you again! Last time was Berlin <3 Will be a great time again.

Have a save trip Buddy!

24 hours? But okay, you will see a lot of amazing places throughout your travels. It will take us around 6 hours from Graz, and I'm not excited to drive for so long 😂, but my husband and I made a pact that I will only be behind the wheel for 2 hours 😂

24h is for both ways so easy, If I had to we could drive on one day, but there's no fun in that and we are not in hurry. We are having one bigger sightseeing stop each way.

Graz is on our way so see you on the road :-)

(I will not give up the steering wheel of my own free will)

If you told American people that you would drive for 24 hours, they would say, 'Only?’😂They wouldn’t believe that you could drive through five countries, it seems impossible to them (I’ve watched too many videos of people who don’t know that Europe has a lot of small countries) 😂Can I ask where your starting point is? See you in Split, or on the road 💪

I'm starting from the Silesia region in Poland and driving through Czechia, passing by Olomouc and Brno. Then, I'll continue through Austria via Vienna and Graz, into Slovenia through Maribor. In Croatia, I'm heading towards Zagreb and Karlovac, where I'll exit the highway and drive towards Plitvice Lakes National Park. We plan on staying there for the night as there's a lot to see, and we wouldn't make it on the same day as we travel.
The next day, we'll be doing a lot of walking in the National Park, and in the late afternoon, we'll head to Split.

So see you on the road and/or in Split :-)

Oh, this is a great plan for a trip 💪! And yes, Plitvička Jezera (Plitvice) are definitely worth seeing. It's one of the most beautiful places in Croatia. I’ve never visited it myself, I don’t know why, especially since it’s not so far from me…🤔 I wish you a nice trip, and see you there! ;)

So... maybe just make an extra stop :-)

Maybe next year…🤔😂

i am also driving there, but for me it should be only 9 hours. So probably 11 :D
i thought about flying but it was not convenient and this year HiveFest is a official vacation for me and i am planning to roam around for at least 5 more days. Plitvice are on the wish list also, but i made 0 plans till now.

Time is a very limited resource in my case so I prefer planning to minimize unexpected wastes.
Old-school highway tolls are problematic and a reason of traffic congestion during peak season, unfortunately new system will be online two months after the HiveFest.
If you will be driving more in HR, you might consider getting ENC once you enter, it should reduce your highway costs and potentially waiting in queues (separate/faster gates for vehicles with ENC device).
For me ENC not worth the hassle as we will be just driving for two days, and the day that includes Plitvice implies driving mostly off the highways.

from my xp of the old school tolls system is to try to miss the peak hours near bigger cities. I am mostly missing Belgrade and Zagreb could maybe be a problem. My biggest concern on time wasting is the border. Last time i was lucky as it was 5 minutes with 2 cars in front of me, but there were days this year that people were on the border for over 4 hours.
Still not sure when to go. Check in is after 16h, so early morning would make sense, but i like driving at night and not a morning person :)

Well, borders, we don't do that here very often ;-)
I will be driving through five countries but they all are in Schengen.

Consider using Croatia Traffic Info - HAK (Link is for Android) It's really convenient to check the cameras on highways and border crossings, so you can try to figure out one week earlier same day how does it look like at your preferred times.

Thanks for the link.

Online listen in or catch up in previous years. Enjoy the round trip is sounds amazing with some distance in driving....

Been ages since I was in Split the last time, maybe 20 years or so, but I love it there. I wish I could go. So bad. But life got in the way, just like with many other plans lately :( Anyway, safe trip(s) and have fun guys! :)

@tipu curate 7

Enjoy, unfortunately, I can't attend this time. Life is full of surprises but hope to see you again soon...

That's unfortunate Priya, I was so hoping to see you again. Next time..

I had to cancel the plan due to some situations. I wanted to attend but there are a few things I couldn't avoid or manage for later. I also wanted to meet you because we couldn't see each other in cologne but I hope there will be more opportunities next time... Enjoy beautiful Split Pauline...

Would have been so so nice to see both of you again but I am off to Zanzibar for the winter.
Enjoy! ☺️

Oh come on, winter starts in December! You have a plenty of time to brace yourself ;-)

Out of my budget LOL. I'll wait for the next one near my country.

It's a really nice event. In the meantime you could try to join some local meetup :-) I guess the closest I got was a meetup in Lima :-)

Plane with a baby 🫡😂 What nerves hahaha!

At least it's yours. Other passengers wouldn't have that excuse 😂

You are right 😂😂

See you there then!

And what is your #roadtohivefest? :-)
(See you there!)
