In the last few days, I have read so many great posts to the Silver Prompt in collaboration with Dreemport that this week is about Retirement. Different points of view. Different realities. And it's so enriching. That's one of the things I love about Hive.
As for my thoughts on the subject, I never liked the word Retirement, to be honest. And I have promised to @mondoshawan I'll remove it from my dictionary, and I mean it. I'll do so after the end of the challenge.
As a young woman that worked in the corporate world for 20 years, my idea was more focused on achieving financial freedom, but not working to have a retirement later on. Of course, I am a long way from that financial freedom.
At 52 years old, I don't foresee myself and my husband being able to live without working to generate income. And at this stage of life, I don't want to stop to be productive as far as I can. Being productive at the end of the day means that we are alive and that we are useful.
And what I once dreamed in my mind of a 30s young lady, a grown adult life without having to work, in a house in front of the sea, doing whatever I wanted, now seems funny, naive and so far from reality.
I, like many others in this country, have been beaten by the economic crisis we are going through, because it is still ongoing. But thanks to it, I have also learned a lot. I have learned to reinvent myself over and over again. And that's one of the reasons I entered the world of cryptocurrencies in the first place.
And today, more than ever, I am clear about my priorities in life and what matters to me. I care about the people I love. I don't care about material things.
Months ago, when I was in intensive care on the verge of death, I can assure you that I only thought of my loved ones. Those who were physically far away. And those who were close. At that moment, I did not think of anything material but of the people important in my life. What we have lived, and what I expect to continue living.
And not being attached to material goods or consumerism doesn't mean I don't like to live experiences, see places, try new food, and travel. I love to travel and would be happy "retiring" having a lifestyle as a nomad that goes from here to there knowing places on my list that grow daily, and visiting friends and family that are far away. And that's why I plan to keep being productive.
These days that we have been so sad, my husband and I have talked a lot about how we want to live in the years to come. He won't stop working, because filmmaking and creating is more than a job, it's a passion and he's lucky for that. As for me, I can't stop feeling productive. But I like that feeling of not being accountable to others, of managing my time the way I want to. If I want to play cards with my friends on a Wednesday afternoon, I do. If I want to go to the mountains or to the beach on Monday, no one can tell me I can't do it.
If we can do that in our house I am happy, if I can do it sometime in a place near the sea I'll be happy, if that time can be sometime in the mountains with a small garden where I can have flowers and a small orchard I'll be happy. My goal is to enjoy what I have today as much as I can. Life can change abruptly from one day to another, what we have for sure is Today and Tomorrow is a maybe.
These were supposed to be thoughts on retirement, and I sidetracked a bit, but in conclusion, I am not thinking about retirement but rather a lifestyle for my silver years, and I try to live that lifestyle as much as I can.

Awesome... and i take your word on that. Though dear Eli, it's not to me you promised that, it's to yourself.
Some folks think i do not like society and it's achievements. But that's far from it. Exactly why i couldn't agree more with you on "not being attached to material goods or consumerism doesn't mean I don't like to live experiences, see places, try new food, and travel."
Big Hug Sister and thanks for often listening to my silly thoughts... 😁
You are absolutely right, it is a promise to myself, Dude:)
The experiences no one can take away from us, are the only thing we will take with us someday.
And your thoughts are not silly at all;)
Big hugs Brother 😘
Wow... Today afternoon I read some posts in #Hive with which I identify a lot. Actually, that's one of the things I love about #Hive, that palpable "humanity" in many of the authors we have here... Your post tells me about you and myself, what great thing by the way!... Coincidentally I am also 52 years old and I left behind my job as a systems engineer for a large company (Protinal C.A) 10 years ago... The idea was also to be independent, to continue being productive but to be able to do the things we like with more freedom. .. But (and I also agree with you)... The economic crisis in our country really is something hitting us all!... But the good thing (being relatively optimistic) is what you say: "We reinvented ourselves, we got ahead, we learned new things"... Perhaps things have not turned out completely as expected, but the important thing is to always remain active. Sometimes sadness hits me and my wife, but there is always an opportunity to raise our heads and move on... Really, I appreciate that you wrote this and I appreciate that I was able to read it... Today has been a day Difficult, but I felt better here in #Hive during the afternoon... This is a nice ecosystem to be in!... I send a hug to you and your close people @coquicoin friend!.

¡Hola querido amigo!
Your comment was Wow. Thank you very much, it is very motivating that you like what I write, and your comments always encourage me to keep writing.
As you say things have not gone as we expected, at least in our case there have been many obstacles along the way and setbacks that life has given us. But we are alive and willing to keep working to have the lifestyle we like, which is very simple. We sometimes want to leave Caracas, but one thing that stops us and especially now is having good medical care nearby, both my husband and I have had our health problems.
I love Hive too and have made some good friends here.
I'm sorry you had a hard day, I hope things are better. I send you a big hug and thank you for your support always 🤗

I love this! I must admit... the idea of writing about retirement was a little offputting to me... and so I did put it off... until the last minute !LOLZ I much prefer the idea of writing about the lifestyle we envisage for ourselves as we age gracefully on this Earth. I agree... I think a lot of people have to rethink the idea of retirement because no longer doing anything to earn an income in our silver years just does not seem very feasible. BUT that doesn't mean that we have to continue to sell our souls to the corporate world. There are so many things we can be doing... as you said... reinventing ourselves. Exploring other ways to make our funds work for us, fitting some form of working life around ourselves and our interests instead of trying to squeeze the latter around a job. So here's to reinvention and reclaiming time for ourselves... and finding joy in doing so.

Hehe, I totally understand. I at some point in the past had those feelings about the topic, but then I understood that the point was that I would never fit into the classic definition of retirement.
I was forced to reinvent myself by the circumstances of life and the country, but looking back I'm glad it happened because I would be very unhappy with my life of still working in an office most of the day and missing out on the wonderful little things going on around me.
Cheers for a life of free Silvers doing what we love 🤗❤️
Exactly! I think reading people's posts... it is clear that most do not see themselves going down the route of traditional retirement... and I guess that's because, at heart, we are all dreemers and silvers hehe - might I even add adventurers of life!!! I need to get out of the office job at some point and find something that inspires me and brings me joy! This challenge really got me thinking in the end !LUV !ALIVE !Hug

I love when you talk about your card afternoon with girls Super Eli!
MR C and his film making really seems a vocation so not really a job! It is as you say a way of life and I too have loved reading so many great posts ...
What though is prompt 2 Super Eli? 💙🔷
The card afternoon with the girls is a lot of fun, and less often than I would like, Super Ed.
That's right, filmmaking is a lifestyle for C. And I like it too, even though from time to time I like to disconnect from the movie-making drama, hehe. And the refuge I have found in Hive is wonderful.
I already reminded you what prompt 2 is about ;), but we have to think about prompt 3 on passive income. So put your imagination to work and come up with some of your spontaneous genius ideas, pls.
Have a Super Magic Sunday, Super Ed 💙🌀😘
Loving the posts for this prompt.
Yes. The old way of retiring isn't feasible nowadays. For most of us.
It is what it is.
Best to enjoy life! To choose and compromise to have more of what's important to us and to let go of what isnt... along with naive ideals.
And to be here now as much as we can!
Sending love.

The word "retirement" comes with the feeling of "old age" and I see yet another reason why you'd want to cross it out of your dictionary, hehe.
The "lifestyle for your silver years" idea seems very fun and free. Good luck with it✨
Hehe! A lifestyle for the silver years sounds cooler, isn't it?😉
Thank you for stopping by😊
This line sounds cooler😅

Wow - your husband is lucky to make a living from his passion, thats quite an achievement. And I agree, loved ones are what matters - its great to prioritise, and if you can then get what you need because the rest does not matter, then thats brilliant !

I'm glad that you were able to heal and can return to enjoying life and being productive. I can relate to wanting to remain productive. I'm almost 61 and although I've thought about retiring at 62, I'm struggling with the idea because, well, because I feel being productive will still be my goal. My husband tells me I can retire, but he has not set a time where he is considering retiring.
Thank you for sharing!

Wow.... Thank God that you recovered from your sickness that took you to the ICU.
It's so nice seeing the way you spoke about retirement...truth is that I too am not sure if I would be retiring because it will really be awkward having something to offer to the society and choosing to stay indoors all in the name of that you gave retired.
Have a great week dear

I love your perspective on retirement and how you planned to live your life to the best of it. Everyone wants the best and we keep working hard towards the goal.

Thank you, princess :)
I can feel the deep feelings in your lyrics. Retirement is a very complicated issue here in my country, as the pension is much less than one can imagine. A person who has worked decades in his life should have a decent monthly bonus to live well and travel. These are nice thoughts, but unfortunately our reality is different.
Such interesting thoughts...
Retirement should be a lifestyle huh...
Now there's something to think about 😗✨
